      Right? Just look at the official 4ish minute Radio Edit of the "Some Kind of Monster. It was mixed by one of the engineers (Randy Staub) who did the Black Album, Reload, Load etc and that shit sounds great

      Tbf, the songs could be trimmed in length a little, they can get a bit repetitive with the same riffs just being looped too often. I totally agree though, there's some great stuff on St Anger. I feel like it could have been great if they'd just had somebody around them to say "no."

    Man they really did St. Anger dirty. A little rework, and change the atrocious drumkit and guitar tone and suddenly we jammin to it like it's Master of Puppets.

      That’s what I’ve been saying since ‘03, St Anger has some good riffs, it’s fast, it’s just the poor production that ruins it.

      Hetfield's vocals are a problem as well. I still miss his restrained growl that some of us old timers fell in love with in the 80's. His vocals helped set them apart from bands like say, Megadeth. Occasionally he will dial it back and give us the old Hetfield growl but most of the time it's honky tonk Hetfield, which kills it for me. I still love Metallica... it's just my opinion.

      @@hexapusink In the Black album years, Hetfield got throat cancer so he can't always use his growl since, you notice this in the Mexico City concert of 1993 where he sang some songs/parts of songs with his growl but could no longer do it for a full concert.

      @@gymguy25 Can't find anything about throat cancer and James Hetfield but back in the day the story was that he blew his voice out while recording the cover "So What!". Not sure if I read that in a metal magazine or just heard it from a friend but his voice hasn't been the same since.

    The snare on the original St anger is so traumatic, it's effects echo through the generations.
    Even though this sounds better, the snare still feels just a little too loud in the mix.
