- In today's video, we will be adding a proper casing layer 11 days after spawn to bulk. we waited for our substrate to be fully colonized, then added our pasteurized coco coir using "Bucket Tek." For this grow, we are using Mush Cult Supply 1qt grain jar paired with the Mush Cult Supply CVG substrate.

I jus started getting into casing cubes but it def helps the surface conditons and helps get fuller canopies...cubes dun need it but it benefits greatly imho....

I wanted to share with you, Easy Blue and great subbies, so you can try next time, something I learned and have tested. Mycelium does not need air exchange to grow, I read on Google. I inoculated two Uncle Ben Tek without air exchange and it is growing great, only 4 days in! My experience with last year’s Uncle Ben Tek with air exchange, was contamination. The good news is, once mycelium is growing, it becomes resistant to contamination, I will keep you posted.🎉😊❤

I lay vermiculite hot into Rubbermaid. Wait a day then add cake. Wait another day after cooking second batch of vermiculite then case w that. Burp whenever 💫👏👏👏
Hello, I recently had a stalled grow and I’m not really sure why but I read that it could be caused by conditions being too dry and low humidity because I wasn’t seeing any condensation on the side of the grow bag. In either case, I scraped off the top layer of the cake carefully and then soaked it for around 12 hours. In addition, I added a casing layer of coco based on some research. Now I’m uncertain how to proceed because I see evidence of good humidity on the side of the grow bag but do I need to mist the casing layer also periodically because that is dry. Also, how long till pins start showing up through the casing because I don’t think the mycelium will colonize it? Do I need to wait for fresh air exchange even with the casing layer until I see pins coming through, or should I be airing it out? Thanks so much 🙏

Hey man, curious how this turned out for you. I misunderstood the whole “casing” concept but have had decent luck the past few months, though not as many flushes as hoped.
As of right now I have a couple tubs that are 100% colonized and have been that way for 3+ weeks. The whole top is white as snow. But no pins are popping. Is it too late to add a casing layer now to get the going?

Hmmm... I always thought you mix your cvg sub with the spawn in the tub and then place a casing straight on top straight away.. not adding it ontop later when tub is colonised?

I have no pinning but fully colonized. Do you think it would be ok to add substrate? I only have a two inch depth now.👍
What I'm finding out that the casing layer isn't necessary for all grows. I haven't added a "true casing layer" since this video. Maybe 1 more grow. Maybe just flip the lid, give them some fresh air, and that'll do the trick. Hope that helps. Check out my free Discord for more useful information!

Took the lids off them and left them in the outer monotub shell and just waiting to see what happens

I have a Kangen water machine in my house. It can go as high as 9.5ph and as low as 2.5ph. Hopefully that helps.

Add about 1/2 teaspoon hydrated lime to a gallon of distilled water, let set for 24 hours, and test pH. If it's still too low, add a pinch more lime and test again in an hour. Pickling lime can be found by the mason jars in most stores.
so my mushrooms have been fruiting for over 3 weeks now and they just reach tiny growth and dry up and die... why?
Maybe too much fresh air exchange? That could possibly cause aborts. What's your setup?

@@EazyBlueThumb I put them in a spare bedroom. I give them fresh air exchange from morning to evening. Becuase i got scared it was lack of fresh air. Now they are just drying up🥲
@lannyogarro1609 I imagine that if you provide too much air exchange, it could be evaporating the moisture faster than they are able to utilize it.

I thought coir is too nutricious to use as a casing layer? The mycelium eats rite through coir and it becomes a part of the substrate was my understanding of it
Coco coir has no nutritional content of its own. I'm not really sure what you're asking.

Yes it b3come part of it but even if you use verm the same thing will happen just a barrier to keep extra moisture inside and contamination out
Yea most people do use non nutritious as a casing. Peat verm mix. I avoid coco so it doesn’t eat up the coco. My personal preference
@EazyBlueThumb coco coir DOES have nutritional value. It's just very low compared to others and doesn't contain nitrates (which help both fungi and other molds grow)

No. I let them sit without opening. You wanna keep that micro climate contained. Opening it early can possibly expose your grow to contamination. Hope that helps!

How much light do you use when fruiting I have 6500k 2ft t5
Florescent it seems really bright is it to much and raises my temp also 4or 5 degrees also have led light strip from Wal-Mart that's half the brightness
Lighting isn't super important. Basic LED or closet light will work. If you can turn down the light settings, I would try that.
Yup new growers especially ppl coming from the herb world worry way too much on lighting cuz ur coming from sumthin where light is everything to where it's one of no concern really in mycology I mean I use bar daylight across my grow racks n tubs jus to help induce pinning and give em a direction shrooms react to light but don't need it
I got a cheap inflatable monotub from china but to my surprise it was a bit sh1t..the lid isn't airtight..i don't know whether to risk spawn to bulk in it..i'm sure it would be fine for fruiting though..that said i'm kinda scared to use it

They suppose to have some gaps for air exchange it will be fine I spawned to bulk in a flower pot once and had a nice flush

Honestly, I'm no scientist, I just figured they perform better with alkaline water. I can't say for sure if it works or not, lol. Hope that helps!

What's up myco bro?!?! I could be wrong (as I've only used "smart" water once) i just use tap or distilled water if I have it left over after making agar, I thought after getting the smart water, if a higher pH helps the mushrooms wouldn't it also help "the ones we choose not to utter their names"? lol....this is what Google says.... For example, low pH levels can cause the substrate to become acidic, leading to poor mushroom growth. On the other hand, a high pH can cause the substrate to become alkaline, increasing mold growth and other microorganisms covering your mushrooms. And a ?...I haven't looked @ your other videos which I'm about to see if my question is answered in a follow up video, but how was your yield as compared to the "pseudo-casing layer? I've always just pseudo-cased.
