    What, you can still return them even though you went hiking in them?!
    That's a Costco style return policy.......I love it!

    Nice review! I bought the low version of these with the speed laces to try something lighter than my boots for day hikes and I really like them, especially the way they hold the foot secure. And the Contragrip and lug pattern are great. My son will need new boots for scouting and family outings (day hikes and some backpacking) and has grown into adult size. Do you think these as suitable for some shorter backpack trips, especially considering he's a light guy? Have you backpacked with them yet? I'll be in the market for boots too and might consider these if I'm convinced they would be ok for occasional backpacking 5-10 mile days.
    Just a detailed comment on one point. You mentioned the Ortholite but pointed to the liner up the sides of the inside of the boot. I think the Ortholite part is just the removable insole, which one could replace if desired. The light material up the sides is actually the protective liner for the Goretex membrane.

      Thanks Paolo. These are my backpacking boots. Typical loads are from 12 to 25 pounds depending on season and number of days. Average day is 15 miles up to 24 miles. Exact specifications can be found at the Saloman website and www.rei.com/product/122167/salomon-x-ultra-3-mid-gtx-hiking-boots-mens

    Do you still feel like they will breath for wearing in the shoulder seasons? I also tried the Lone Peaks and wanted to like them, but like you, my foot moved around more than I like. I've settled with Saucony Peregrine 8 for year round hiker, but need a boot like this for wet, cold hikes. Enjoyed your review on this show and I'll definitely try. REI is great too. I'm also looking at getting a tent you reviewed and use from Lightheart Gear. Hoping to go visit them in the next few weeks in person then hit the trail for a test maybe on the Solong 6. Thanks.

      I wear Darn Tough Socks and have three different pairs. A light, middle and heavy weight, and change them up depending on the weather. Solomon also offers a low cut, high top and other variations in the X Ultra.

    Thank's for the review. I picked up a pair at REI today. Feel fantastic. The only concern I have is the Gore-tex...... how in the world did your feet stay dry when you crossed that creek?

      Great pair of boots - still enjoying mine.

    How true to size are these boots. They do look great and like they would be great for cooler and wet weather months. Thanks for sharing. Also appreciate your video on Shining Rock recently. I'm hoping to get up there around Christmas. My local trails around Dahlonega are nice, but looking for some elevation. Thanks

      @goldenblazehikes  Před 5 lety

      Thanks Greg. The boots seem pretty true to size. I normally wear between a 9 and 10 depending on the shoe. Went up 1/2 a size to allow more toe room.

    Hi. I have the same shoe. And when I used it on a trail in heavy rain, water got in and the in sole curled. So I was wondering... Was the insole fixed in the first place or did it come unstuck? And any idea if it did cone unstuck, how to fix that? Is it good for wet walking at all? Will appreciate your views. Thanks

      The insoles for all of my Salomons are loose and removable. I will often take them partially out to speed up drying. Just reinsert the insoles and make sure they are flat. With Darn Tuff socks, have not had any issues wearing them while wet. Thanks for watching.

    ı have the both 2 and 3 but the 2 was abit more quality what u think?

    • @goldenblazehikes
      @goldenblazehikes  Před 4 lety

      I thought they both held up well. Went up half a size with the 3 which fit better and have worn them longer than the 2. Thanks for watching.

    Can they do it in winter? Do basket crampons fit?

    • @goldenblazehikes
      @goldenblazehikes  Před 3 lety

      Have worn these with micro spikes, but not crampons. Have worn these in the snow day hiking, but not very deep. These are a light weight boot, so probably not the best for serious winter time weather. Thanks for watching.

    Can you run a little in these ?

    • @goldenblazehikes
      @goldenblazehikes  Před 5 lety

      I have used these just for backpacking and hiking. Salomon does offer this same style in a low top trail runner, but if looking for more ankle support these might be worth trying out.

    Worn out after just 400 miles? Might have to look for something else then, can’t buy new boots every 2 months

      That's the old version of the Ultra he's talking about.

    • @goldenblazehikes
      @goldenblazehikes  Před 5 lety +1

      Would not exactly say wore out. The tread is still good. My biggest problem with the original pair was they were a bit too small and was getting toe rub issues. Went up 1/2 a size on the new pair which eliminated the problem. Having said all that, these are a lighter weight hiking boot and you probably are not going to get the same mileage as a heavier weight boot.

      Did not care for the Ultra. My friends love there's, so no insult meant to all the Ultra fans. After about 30 miles in the Ultras, returned them to REI.
