    I have always been a fan of the Salomon shoes and boots. I had an issue with one pair of them before and the folks at Salomon bent over backwards to help me with it. I have worn them for years. Nice video thank you posting it. Keep them coming.

      Have had good luck with mine being waterproof, but after the hole forms they will definitely leak. These are a lighter duty boot and will wear out more quickly. Good luck with your new boots.

    Great review! What do you think about the lacing system? Specially considering the open superior inlets/hooks and having just one of them on the top instead of two? Thanks

    • @goldenblazehikes
      @goldenblazehikes  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks! The Ultra 2 only had one open hook on top, which I thought was odd at first but ended up liking as the boots lace up quicker. The Ultra 3 has two open hooks and it looks like the 4 has gone back to just one.

    Hi Golden Blaze, just bought these boots about a month ago after an in depth research including your review on this channel. So far I really like the boots, have been out on several hikes here in Northern Quebec, Can. The only negative so far is the clicking noise coming from the tip of my left boot when I walk. Just wondering if you experienced the same issue with yours.

      @goldenblazehikes  Před 4 lety +2

      Hello Greg. They seem to breath okay. They are warm in hot weather. I have washed them a couple of times with water and a soft brush to clean the dirt out of the pores of the material and that keeps them breathing well. I'm still a fan of Gortex for a good year-around boot that you can wear in the snow and creek crossings. Thanks for watching.

  • @sonicwingnut
    @sonicwingnut Před 3 lety

    So I got a pair of these (same colour as yours), here's my take -
    POSITIVES;
    - insoles are SUPER comfortable - oddly lumpy at first but they seem to mold to your feet with light use.
    - very little wearing-in time.
    - weight absolutely nothing (my girlfriend picked up the package when it arrived and messaged me asking if I'd accidentally bought a single boot by mistake haha).
    - oddly long for the fit (like half an inch longer than my MOABS in the exact same size) - but plenty of toe room as a result which is a bonus on steep descents.
    - Treads feel pretty beefy, need to test on wet rock but seem pretty promising.
    - wide fit version available (I have hobbit feet).
    NEGATIVES:
    - NOT WATERPROOF! I dunno if I'm just unlucky with GTX boots or what here - Feet felt a little damp at the toes after walking about in the rain at work - got home and tried the "bathtub test". They didn't leak immediately, so stitching/seams seem fine, but a few minutes after the inside of the boot was damp. Not dripping wet, but definitely damp. It seems water just soaks into the fabric bits on the top, which eventually soaks through to the inner layer. I'm wondering if Salomon just aren't properly proofing their outer boot for some stupid reason - I've hoyed a load of Nikwax Proofing Spray on them so hopefully this fixes it!
    - regular version is super narrow, wide fit version is good but only just accommodates wider feet if you buy a size up. Regular Quest 4D was wider in the shop at the same size.
    - Laces seem to come undone a lot unless you make them super tight at the top of the boot. Different lacing might help this mind, I'll see how it works out on a long hike tomorrow!
    In general they seem awesome apart from the waterproofing being shit, just hope the nikwax fits it but they really need to better treat the outers in the factory!

    • @sonicwingnut
      @sonicwingnut Před 3 lety

      Update - 10 mile hike, up and down mountains, dry weather but tons of wet, boggy ground. My feet weren't WET, but the inside of the boots were damp again. More damp got through when washing them later.
      They're not full on leaking but these things are NOT waterproof!
      Mate brought a pair of leather Scarpas with him and his feet were bone dry.
      Probs gonna try and return these under warranty and get proper, leather boots. Goretex is a joke.

    • @goldenblazehikes
      @goldenblazehikes  Před 3 lety

      Very strange. Sounds like you got a defective pair. I would take them back and get a refund too. On my third pair now and still love them. Good luck on your next pair of boots.

    • @sonicwingnut
      @sonicwingnut Před 3 lety +2

      @@goldenblazehikes It's weird, I mean my feet were only a little bit damp (merino socks mind) after 10 miles of basically walking through bogs, but they should be bone dry with new boots!
      Only thing is I bought online and the company are based in Spain, and returns look like a total pain in the arse. I might have to just wait a bit and claim Salomon's warranty instead.
      I'm kinda torn because they are a BIT waterproof, and insanely comfy. I honestly feel like Goretex just can't cope with British weather haha. My brand new sealskins socks failed miserably the other week too.
      Either that or their manufacturing quality has gone downhill recently. See all these people with 10yr old boots still working and everyone who bought some a year ago has had em leak.. same with Merrell.

    I bought these bought a recently and having tried them on I find one boot (right one) digs in a bit/pushes on
    on the inside edge of my foot... it’s hard to tell if it’s the inner sole they provide or the side of the boot chassis. Anyone else had this issue? Just a quick one, do you not find that there is quite an exaggerated curve to the inner side of the boot? My left boot feels fine but the right one if I take the inner sole out has a curve on the inside that really comes into the centre space of the boot and that’s what’s causing me discomfort.
