  • In this video I fix another mechanics job who didn't knew what he was doing by installing the strut bushings upside down in this Chevrolet Aveo 2006. This spacing which I show in the beginning allows for a lot of play which puts not only on the chassis but also on your Sway bar links which I had to replace as well on this vehicle. #Chevy #Aveo #strut #bushing

Thank you for the correct way of front Struts installing
I too was a little confused about the fitting as I have a 2008 Aveo Uva .
Today I corrected the front struts of both side. After test-drive , Feeling more comfortable than before.
    Thank you 🙏

Guess what, I am referring to this video to counter check Mechanic's work (which I am back for the second time for the noisy part after installed a new absorber) and I have successfully corrected them whereby they installed the absorber bearing at the last part on top. That's the reason my car's absorber bearing spoiled.

Well, I just did mine on a 2007 Aveo 5. I ordered strut assemblies, cause I didn't want to mess with the spring compressor. Did it before, didn't like it. When I first put them in, there was no gap at the top. Drove it a bit checked again, and now there is space. Part of the reason I replaced them, was the space that I saw there. I assumed the lower bushings were worn out. Guess I'll have to pull them back out. So mine came as an assembly, assembled wrong. I guess the originals were assembled wrong as well.

      @lsellclumanetsolarenergyll5071  Před 3 lety

Yes it is a design flaw which on the G3 which has the same front end frame and design was corrected by flipping the lower bushing. It solved the problem of the gap which is on top visible and let the strut walk and move around as you drive over humbs and harder surfaces.

I made a video explaining the real issue. czcams.com/video/2QSSwRgoEBQ/video.html
The nuts supplied with the aftermarket struts are too thick and cause the top hat to sit up too high. By installing the correct factory but on top if the bushing, it will solve this problem and the bushing will be seated properly.
A lot of people have just flipped these bushings, thinking the same thing, but that bushing is made the way it is (cut at that angle) so that it fits into the body accurately. Flipping the bushing may take care of the play / movement, but it is not correct and it may effect the geometry of the suspension and steering.

That is because the aftermarket struts come with the incorrect nuts ... the nut that holds the bushing . bearing on to the top of the strut is way too thick and the top hat can't tighten down properly. The correct way to fix this is to replace the nut with the factory nut... not flip the bushing the wrong way around.
I made a video about it here. czcams.com/video/2QSSwRgoEBQ/video.html

I ended grinding down an old ring spanner on the outside to fit better in the top cap so I could tighten it fully. I didn't install my mounts upside down like this and I don't have any gap.

Hey, you might be right about this, and the Optra may be different ? I had a look at my video, and your video again, and the bushing that sits in the body of the car on the Optra (that I worked on) had a deep hole for the top cap to fit into.
I don't work on a lot of cars, but I have worked on enough cars to know that you are not an experienced mechanic after watching just a few minutes of your video. I'm willing to admit I may be wrong, based on the diagram that bushing does appear to sit on the way you installed it.
If you ever change struts again, here's a few tips from a guy who doesn't work on a lot of cars. 1.While the weight is still on the wheels of the car, remove the top hat and use a socket to loosen the spring retaining nut almost all the way. It will come off really easy this way. You can look in and make sure that you have threads left, just to be safe. 2. Never use that stupid "nut" on the end of the absorber. I have changed a lot of struts and never once used those. 3. Don't use an impact gun on a spring compressor. It doesn't work welland is much easier, safer and faster with manual tools.
      Cheers.

Thank you for your words. FYI I do have a professional rally racing license from Germany... that should tell you a bit about myself on top Ferdinand Piëch himself is(was) a good friend as well as Sr. Volke and his Son. And there is nothing wrong with an impact gun if you know what you are doing. And when someone hacked on a job nothing comes off easy. Just done 2 99 Jeep Grand Cherokees and had to use the good old flex to cut off the struts because a nut job decided to strip threats, put a bit brass nut as a spacer in between and to bolt it back on while screwing it all up to the point that even with a torch and penetration oil nothing was moving and when it was moving shock rod and nut spun on their own and when you tried to use the 6mm nut trick you ended up stripping it all... again you and I work on car's so we get the job's done right while Engineer's have no freaking clue how to even check the oil on an engine.

@@lsellclumanetsolarenergyll5071 I agree that there is nothing wrong with an impact if you know what you are doing... it's just not the most effective way on something that is not rigidly mounted and it causes a lot of vibration, on a tool that is already sketchy and wanting to slide and move around. It works much better just to use a ratchet to compress a spring compressor.
HAHA. I agree... Engineers rarely think about the people who are going to have to work on cars (or anything else). I have worked on motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATVs most of my life and it makes you wonder if they try to come up with difficult ways to do things.
You know it's going to be a rough day when you have to pull out the disc grinder to get something apart. I feel your pain. My girlfriend owned a 2002 E46 BMW 330CI .... have you ever had to work on the cooling system of that car ? 😂... If someone ever asks you to... just run the other way! She overheated it a few years ago and blew the head gasket and I also had to rebuild the VANOS system. What a nightmare.
Thankfully she sold it and is now driving a Mazda 👍
