  • In Today's Old School MTG episode, I am playing against patron Peter and his aggro deck full of Kird Apes! He is playing the classic red/green combination of small creatures, ramp and direct damage. I am playing my mono green stompy deck that is equally fast and includes the classic green combat tricks with Giant Growth and Berserk. Obviously it lacks the Chains and Bolts, but makes up for it in speed.

I always love seeing budget decks. If it weren't for budget decks and the many creative decks shown on this channel, I probably would have been too intimidated to enter into Old School. Old School is so much more than Power 9 and you really can have a great deck without owning Power. These two decks are great examples.

I so agree Matt! There are so many fun ways to play os without the need of all the power.

Indeed there is much fun to be had by exploring the game beyond the 1st tier decks. Unfortunately even the second and third tier cards needed for that are getting quite pricey.

Loving both decks showcased here. I played against Peter recently, and it was a near-mirror-match. Rebuilt the RG burn deck into a mono green deck, which I considered the strongest strategy in that deck, but at the moment I use War Mammoths and Wyluli Wolves instead of Erhnam Djinn.

War Mammoth is so sweet, especially with a Giant Growth making it a mini Force of Nature 👌

What an awesome channel! Love the commentary! I used to play MTG back in the day and have a renewed interest. These are the cards I used to play with. Rockin it old-school. Keep,up the good work!

One of the best decks in 94/95 was the Red/Green Stompy with splash blue and black, by Bertrand Lestree. It was in the Finals of 94 Worlds and was favored to win but the opponent got multiple first turn god draws.

I was rooting for you game 1. almost had the comeback. I’m liking these budget decks. i’m going to build the green stompy for sure

You should 👍 It’s a fun deck to play especially in these match ups where you get into complex combat situations.

This Pendelhaven from Anthologies (?) looks so nice! Love the budget decks. This could even be a series on the channel: Deck techs or ideas for budget brews to get into OS.

    • @TimmytheSorcerer
      @TimmytheSorcerer  Před 2 lety

You’re right, it’s Anthologies and a perfect cheap alternative 👍

Edwin had a monocolored budget series on his channel. And the green build was rather similar to timmys deck.
Some builds expanding on that would be nice to see.

@@TimmytheSorcerer Hilariously, the Anthologies version is by far the rarest.

Bloodlust, Giant Growth, Berserk. Take 14 trample damage from my Birds Of Paradise.

I love Green Stompy archetype. Berserk's such an amazing card.

It’s so much fun to play and very budget friendly (for os). I should play it more often, getting some more aggro piloting experience 😎

Timmy a couple months ago "I am terrible with berserk which is why I don't use it" Today I spit out my coffee laughing at the first game. I really like the anhk of mishra's with your green ramp. The only thing is that they are the only target for disenchant/shatter so almost will always get killed.

😂. Yes, it wasn't my best moment. Maybe I should just stick to Timmys to deal the dmg.

Game 2 you couldnt block the kirdapes as your ernham should have given it forestwalk

True true… for the next iteration maybe. Could go channel fireball as well. Or leave out the ernham and go for smaller creatures. Old School on a budget is a lot of fun

You channel was the reason for me as well to start playing old school. You make it so much fun with the brews, the commentary, the competitions and live coverage. I had a lot of fun playing this game. Just like it used to be when i started. Thanks!
