I love your reaction to the summary of The Handmaid's Tale. I read that book years ago and I remember being so bummed out and cynical after reading it. The stack of all the books at the end looks so pretty with those shades of pinks, reds, and yellows.
I didn’t realise how sinister it was!!! I can’t wait to read it though, I think it’ll be incredibly impactful.

So funny your reactions - I buy my books almost exclusively second hand and I prefer that they look a little lived in 😂 Handmaid’s Tale has been my favourite book for about 30 years, but you’re correct that it is a bit rough. I love a good dystopian story. Enjoy!

Oooh, The Girls is one of my all time favourites! We often hear talk about how what draws people into cult are these charismatic men and this book flips that on its head and explores the power of female relationships and the need to belong, love it and can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

i had a bit of a rough Christmas too with my mum in hospital and a fire on Christmas Eve (unrelated to my mum's hospital stay 😅) but we managed to still enjoy the day together ❤

Aaaaahhhh! Red Rising is so great!! I will say it takes a second to get comfortable with the world building but once you get to a certain point you won’t want to stop reading! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
Edit: Daisy Jones was amazing also! I could not get enough of it, and a theme or two really hit home.

Happy New Year! RE the yucky yellowed edges I used to work in a second-hand bookshop and we just used a bit of light grit sandpaper to sand the edges which works a treat in making them look new again

world of books tend to list books for the same price no matter the condition, so i would also go for 'like new' or 'very good' bc the fine print states that good may include annotations or small damage like tears etc! vinted & ebay are also super reliable second hand sites but blackwells is also a great waterstones alternative (love them down but blackwells sometimes have international editions of books) & they send free bookmarks :)

Its really interesting because I didn’t heard of some of those books and they sound so interesting.
When it comes to buying used books I also recommend vinted.
You can ask for more photos of books so you know they are not damaged. I bought some book there and clothes as well it’s really save, so I recommend 📚💖

I felt the same way as you showed the condition of some of your books. It's so disappointing when the books aren't as described. I know when the books I order arrive I'm so happy and when they're a bit dirty I'm bummed.

This was really cool to see the books unboxed and also keep in mind what they cost. I usually buy books brand new, but it is my goal to only buy second hand from now on. Seems like you received a lot that were sort of like new or very gently used! ❤❤ Can be quite a gamble I guess 😂

On those used websites, when they say "good conditions" it usually means bad 😪 you have to aim either at the "very good conditions" or "like new" and then it's an acceptable second hand book 😁

It's interesting to see your reactions to your used books. I love to see that a Booktuber is buying used rather than exclusively new! Here in the US, we have an app called Pango where regular people sell their used books, but you can see the book condition in the photos and the seller's description. Do ya'll have something similar in Europe?
Absolutley!! Love second hand books! And yes we have something called Vinted where you can get cheap books, but I am yet to explore it. I have heard of Pango though. 💕

Axelbooks on the internet is like The Works. I got a beautiful set of the Inkheart Trilogy from them for Christmas (beautiful because of the books themselves, they were shrink wrapped the way The Works does with the series they put together)

Oh mo gosh. I am so excited for you to read Red Rising. It is my utmost favourite series of all time. I just read it for third time with my husband (because I finally convinced him to read it and he is not a reader).
He gave it 5 stars and immediately started listening to book 2 (Golden Son), which is my favourite thus far in the series

Glad you had a lovely Christmas. It can be such a tricky and pressurised time. I had a super quiet one and it was bliss. I’ve tried WOB a few times and I have to say their version of Very Good (so far) is not mine. Hahaha. It’s fine if it’s like £3 a book BUT anything more, hmm. I think they’re a bit cheeky. Fabulous haul though.

No, not rude at all! 😊I have Long Covid and also suspected ME/CFS and MCAS/Histamine intolerance, but I haven’t been formally diagnosed with the last two. Before my diagnosis 2.5 years ago I was completely healthy, so it’s been a complete life change which I’m still processing if I’m honest. 😅
Oh yes I have lupus in my family and I actually got tested for it as I was having similar symptoms as well. It’s horrible all of the flare ups.

@@NickellesNook paypal is the only payment method i use online i have had allot of problems with orders not arriving or in terrible condition and paypal just send the money back to you and it is also a free app which makes it even better

I feel like WoB has gone downhill lately 😭 after your come shopping with me video I commented that I've had good experiences with them, but unfortunately my recent order (mid-December) has been all messed up as well. I've only received one book so far from my order of 8, only got one shipping message (for different ones than the book I've now received), and I've sent them two messages through their website to ask if the other ones have been shipped already and have received no response. I'm in the Netherlands, so I don't get tracking, so I have no clue if my books have even been shipped yet. Previous orders have always been fine with communication, shipping, receiving on time, etc, so I'm very disappointed. WoB was such a great resource for English-language books that aren't too expensive (again, 'cause of where I live), and I like shopping secondhand where I can. But with international orders I don't want to be dealing with this kind of uncertainty, and then seeing the state some of your books are in, that's not great.
Oh well. Hope you'll enjoy your reads though!
