The irony really is that Louis is actually more masculine than Tate. Heâs confident, self aware and successful with excellent social skills. Heâs also humble and has achieved a level of mastery in his field. All while being genuine and not having to be manipulative
exactly, how about we don't lionise unhinged men with personality disorders who, instead of sorting out a lifetime of traumas, have declared war on humanity (and women in particular).
Your definition of masculinity sounds very feminine, do you happen to be a woman? Women don't define what men are or should be unfortunately for you

As a therapist I have always thought Louis Theroux would make an excellent therapist. His ability to sit with people who often might hold âcontemptible viewsâ and listen to them in a neutral way whilst remaining genuine is quite a skill.

"Austentatious humility is its own poison" is such a good bit of introspection from Louis. There are people who definitely use the "I'm not like other rich people" statement as a way to make themselves feel special. Then there are others who genuinely don't care. I imagine that Louis is the latter, but it must be a bit of a tightrope once you become aware of it.
I believe itâs ostentatious, but a strikingly true statement
It's usually guys who took a longer time to get rich.
I picked up on that. The ego can work on both ends of any spectrum. Similar to people who have the moral high ground on everyone else. It's not good being a bad person. But it's also not good telling everybody how much of a good person you are either. Egoism at its finest. One of the things I love about Louis is that he is very conscious and happy to be self-critical.
"Sell all your possessions and follow me" Humility and poverty are two of the highest virtues in western culture - and rightly so.
You guys all realise he was best mates with Jimmy Savile and had to do a documentary on himself just to try to look impassive.... THAT'S why he's parted from BBC.
Difference is Louis likes to watch but Tate likes to be watched. Louis is an anthropologist, like a hunter in a hide, he wants to blend in and observe humans behaving without consideration for his presence. This is a more substantial way to go through life. If you always demand the room to notice you and respond to you then every room becomes the same. You live in a bubble and become more and more locked away in your ivory tower. Someone curious like Louis would HATE that reality. To observe others you need them to forget you are there.
great comment
No you can still observe others even while having everyone aware you are there, you just need to know how to do it
Louis wouldnât be in this field if he didnât like being watched
Well put
I love Louis. But most people wouldnât want be around the disturbing people and groups he interviews. So yours is not a fair analogy.
Itâs not like heâs just someone observing people from a park bench or in the corner of a room at an average function.

Louis is probably the one person I would trust to make a genuinely balanced and fair documentary about the Tate brothers. A very rare skill indeed.

Sadly, Louis has become very one sided politically and culturally and these perspectives have increasingly been on public display over the years. He has very middle-class views that are representative of the wealthy bubble he lives in. Very progressive, pro-censorship, pro status-quo. Hence why this video segment could be viewed as pretty ironic.
Theroux is a thousand times more of a man than Tate could ever dream of being.
Anyone who identifies as a man is a man. It's that simple really. Stop spreading toxic masculinity
Absolutely! Completely agree đ
I think âgrown-upâ or âfather materialâ are good indicators. So many guys associate masculinity with being an aggressive hyper-teen
Also not a human trafficker.
Theroux is hyper human
I love this man. Very intelligent, humble, and spot on. I listened to Andrew Tate to make up my own mind and it didnât take long at all for me to be absolutely repulsed. He is indeed very arrogant and materialistic with no depth to his personality and a total turn off. Not to mention his terrible views on women which just makes me sad for him more than anything.
Except he's not. That's the catch. Women claim they are turned off by him, but in reality you are biologically wired to be into him. It's easy to say you're not into him (because he calls women out regularly), when there's no chance of being with him. But if he was in your town and showed interest, you'd very quickly invent ways to justify why you're into him.
He's brash and arrogant. He boasts about material possessions such as cars. A lot is tongue in cheek, but a lot is real arrogance. Women are into that. Women will bypass all sort of things because deep down they are biologically wired to be attracted to dominant men. That's the biggest message we can get from him. Women get mad at him, but that's what they are attracted to.
In this modern crisis when men are becoming more feminine, and women are becoming more masculine, he does more good than bad. If we strip down the cars, bravado, and bullshit, he has some solid messages, but more important is the unintended message he provides.
Itâs so refreshing to listen to someone that isnât completely full of themselves

You should read 'In Plain Sight: The Life and Lies of Jimmy Saville' by Dan Davis.
The original hardback is a doorstopper, weighing in at least my or so. But utter fascinating.
The man who wrote it didn't spend a few weeks with him, but more like over a year. And this is the scary part: Dan isn't exactly a chump, either.
But here's the thing about genuine psychopathy, or, as the DSM-V describes it, Antisocial Personality Disorder: they tightly wrap themselves within multiple layers, to the point all you see is what they want you to see.
In Saville's case, as described in the book, he could fool almost everyone as this charming, affable, avuncular, eccentric, personality. Heck, for some reason I can't recall, but which is covered in that book, he was buried with a Green Beret, as the Royal Marines made him a Honorary Commando. A maternal cousin of mine was an actual Enlisted Commando himself, and one of the smartest people I know. How the hell did Saville pass the sniff test on that one, nobody knows.
Then there's the whole Broadmore thing, where he was practically given the keys to the entire hospital. As you very well know, that place is filled to the rooftops with the most mentally ill, and dangerous people, in England, if not the whole of the UK. Yet, he was given free lodgings there by some of the foremost Forensic Psychologists, and Psychiatrists in the nation.
My point being is that Saville built such an elaborate façade, behind which lay a pathological liar, to the point that Dan, after Saville's death, had to do a complete re-evaluation of not only all his interview notes, but spends a considerable amount of time into _really_ digging into that man's past, only to discover a labyrinth of mirrors, some more distorted than others, and some dark mirrors, which reflected little light at all.
But, as Dan writes, the truly worse thing was the construct that Jimmy Saville built around himself was almost so air-tight, that he fooled an entire nation as this eccentric guy, that everyone loved, because of his extrovert personality.
I myself have seen that on a personal scale. My dad was, in his lifetime, not only a respected driver on the District Line, but, later, a postman whom helped, in little ways, the elderly people on his route. He even developed a casual acquaintance with William Woollard.
What no-one would ever expect was he began sexually abusing my younger, severely disabled, sister and I, when I was 14; once a fortnight for years. And he was violent with it ...
But he wasn't the real monster. That was was our mum, whom not only gaslight me into pretending it wasn't happening, but fooled everyone around her as being this loving parent, especially of a disabled child. But behind the front door, she was everything but. I felt like I was raising my sister more than she was in ways that no 15yr old had had to with any younger sister.
When I told my therapist what I had to do for my sister - which I will spare you the details - she was shocked, and angry for me. In her 30+ years of clinical experience, she has never heard a more dysfunctional person than my mum. So when, finally, dad was given a nine year prison sentence, my therapist said my mum should've recieved at least half of that, for what she didn't do, as much as what she did do. And yet, in the church she belonged to, she was held up as this suffering person ... who would visit my dad on a regular basis, whilst still locked up ... those same church Elders would also take me to see him, too, despite knowing full well what he had done ...
Hence that book resonated with me, as I know what evil in disguise looks like ...
I don't blame Louis one bit. For if my dad and mum where able to fool people close to them of their true nature, then Saville easily got away with deceiving an entire nation, except for whom I suspect knows child sexual abuse on a personal level ...
... for even after my mum's death, her side of her family has disowned me ... for just telling the truth, and shattering their hagiography of her, which they still believe to be true. No apologies ... just set adrift. And, now that my dad is also dead, I have scant support from even my aunt, his younger sister, and nothing from his older brother ...
Insight into evil, which few genuinely have, without experience, find it hard to understand those whom do. In my case, I'm 48, and aside from my physical disabilities, those seven years of physical and sexual abuse has left me a pretty broken man that is only now able to rebuild something out of ruins, abet I will never be employable again ...
In short, both Louis and Dan where deceived by an evil that neither could possibly understand as it went far beyond what the human mind can conceptually perceive ...
... but only those touched by it, can. In my case, my insight has come with a cost far too high to pay back ...
@@tommybronze3451 Well the entire British public was taken in by Saville.
Most British parents were dying to get their kids to meet old Jimmy for a Jim'll fix it medal. When you come from this kind of background, I think youâre less likely to strive for material possessions for the purpose of showing them off than if youâve grown up poor. Itâs unlikely to impress your peers that are also wealthy. More likely to have academic goals or seek power in one way or another.
@@bengraham878 that actually gives interesting context to his personal views. Although I do still agree with him
@@BlackiJ11 I donât for good reason
Best comment!
Just a sound sensible humble chap, always love his shows
You've gotta love Louis. 'I've got 2 casio', I'm not being flash'.đ what an inspiration. đ
I love Louis more after having seen this. Bloody legend đ
Heâs a diamond. He really is!
Owning your own production company can really destroy the pure joy of what you do in the creative space, you begin to become more focused on sales, networking and targets, business is sole destroying if you have no interest in business, I know exactly the situation Louis is in, sure you don't own your work but conversely your work doesn't own you
My husband & I run 2 businesses, one in food & the other in maintenance-We donât own a flashy car or expensive jewelry either. Iâm wearing the same ring đ he proposed to me with 10yrs ago. And I love it. We bought a new home but itâs a cozy rancher with some surrounding land. Not a mansion. IMO, anyone who feels the need to fill their lives with materialistic things, doesnât know the value of love, friendship, family or happiness. Things donât fill the void, a good happy life doesđđŒđ«¶đŒ
To have genuine curiosity and suspension of judgement is such a rare skill.
God, I love Louis Theroux....I could listen to him all day....he's such a nice guy. â€ïž
My watch has also been self repaired for about 4 years and I don't care as it tells the time and is fine - apart from the strap that I've mended with a mini hairband. Totally with you Louis
My wife bought me a new watch for my birthday in November - a Casio. I'd worn my previous one - a Citizen - for 26 years and replaced the strap multiple times. Just like Louis, I don't need or want flash things.
I stopped wearing a watch years ago, when mine broke. There are so many clocks around (on the radio, appliances, in public and on the shattered screen of my mobile phone) that I found I didn't even need one attached to me anymore.
Your interviews are phenomenal
Love this review of the casio watch
Cheers to the Anti-Tate - can't believe how many people have been suckered in by him and his 'escape the Matrix' crap - which is the most in the 'Matrix' thing I think I've heard.
Lol - youâre right total cliche
Says a woman
@@samoday2992 Andrew Tate, hahahahahaa
â@@samoday2992 not sure if you're a fan of Andrews but can I ask does it bother you that he's either homosexual or bisexual? I'm referring to the video he made saying he'd rather sleep with Megan fox if she had a penis rather than an ugly female, the sheer fact its a possibility to him by definition makes him homosexual or bisexual. Just wondering does that effect his supporter's support of him?
Itâs to some extent a pretty good analogy though. Take the pandemic for example, with how the media censored one side of the argument to do with vaccines, lockdowns etc they created a false reality around the world. Andrews niche is he refers to this false reality as the matrix because if you have seen the film it makes sense.
In a word ⊠grounded and humble and knows whatâs important and not important . đ
If I could have a coffee with anyone or live with them for a week Louis Theroux would be on that list. What a legend. Nice guy. Genuine guy. Curious guy. He must be protected with all we have and respect throughout history.
Agreed he's a sharp man humanity needs people like him more now than ever.
Louie has clearly concluded the opinion Iâve been slowly building up about tate over the months now, breath of fresh air bravo! đ
I like Louis Theroux. One of the best journalists from the UK. They are both right, good journalism is having the need to understand.
I get Louis point. However, I would argue that, Louis himself went to a posh public school in the centre of Westminster and subsequently went to one of the poshest and earliest university in the world.
So I think for Louis, showing off was never really needed as it was assumed you were monied (or at least your parents prioritise spending loads of money on education). And also in the posh public schools system, being flashy like that is not a thing. In fact itâs looked down upon in those social circles.
Whereas if I have money and itâs brand new and all the things I own are also shiny and brand new.
It might be a bit unfair saying statements like âshowing offâ.
We do not all get the same utility out of money. Some people own flashy things because of plethora reasons. Some is eternal (witting or unwitting) validation. For some is to open a few doors/opportunities. For some itâs to enjoy a bit of your success. Especially first generation real wealth.
Point is, if you always had money or at least never went without, you wouldnât get some of the emotions and reasons people show off. But I still get your point.
True. I also think Tate shows off because thats his brand. Its part of his business. He said it himself "Attention is the real currency"
That's a good point on showing off wealth. Also I think the problem with Tate isn't his materialistic views, but his misogynist views, spewing hate and overall (maybe criminal) activity.
so he should be more, not less interested in bling stuff - think about your argument
@@kawhi-theking_of_the_north3536 no he's a tosser fullstop
Louis is a gentleman through and through, a dying breed.
I was introduced to Louie through this interview. I love him. I love finding these amazing people through your channel Steve. Thats just an added bonus on top of the many fascinating interviews. Im totally ignoring things like Jada Smith but that's alrightđ
Love listening to Louis on any topic. He is intelligent and forthright.
Theroux would be fantastic interviewing one of the Royal Family. That would be a breath of fresh air and just like the William walks podcast it would amazing! Still waiting for the Palace to release that one on CZcams.
I find myself asking awkward questions to friends to find out what makes them tick with genuine interest in a non biased way, so rewarding if you can highlight a different viewpoint for them to discover
thanks for the comments about being "disarming" and that's why he's able to get people to open up. its made me think about how I can approach sharing advice and how do it without raising peoples hackles up.
God tier man wearing a god tier watch
Louis, you are wonderful! Takes real courage to transcend ones petty little ego the way you do in these days self infatuation.
Louis Theroux is an absolute LEGEND!
I love how English he isđ brilliant person.
Edit: I just wanted to add how much I love this podcast FINALLY a podcast with people who aren't just making fart jokes, conspiracy theories or some redpillok nonsense, but actual substance with real conversation about things that really connect with people. Not saying you can't do those things, but one must admit many podcasts are terrible right now.
Joe Rogan: *feels called out*
Don't tell that to Adam Buxton
Pretty good, despite his dad being Anerican.
I love him despite it
Two of my favourite human beings, both gentlemen! Thank you
Louis is a real man! So humble, intelligent and compassionate. The opposite of Andrew Tate.
Tate would

@@dylanmurphy9389 so just confirming Tate is a violent animal then?
@@dylanmurphy9389 he probably would in a slow intellectual way and Tate is actually a pretty smart guy so he would just argue the point to him. It would be a pretty great interaction. I like both of them and dislike certain things about both of them. Louis has some good content over the years and Tate is hilarious but they can both be obnoxious in their opinon. Great questions! Great answers! Great podcast!
In a world were boys want to be like Andrew Tate, be a Louis Theroux!

I love Casio F91W's. Keep great time, are practically indestructible and are dirt cheap. He's right about the strap though.
Wow! Watched him on things for soo many years and it's the first time I feel like he's being open about himself. Maybe the first opportunity to
He is quitessentially English, low key and understated
The nicest rich guys are the ones where you can't instantly tell that they're rich. Yes, they might be wearing nice clothes and a nice watch, but they choose understated elegance instead of ostentatious displays of wealth.
