We bought a 2004 forest River and we have had minimal maintenance. Only the newer RVs are having these major issues I see everybody talking about. You go into $100,000 worth of debt and have potential frame flex? We paid $6,000 for ours and my boyfriend says “if it’s been around for 20 years it’ll be around for 20 more” I’m so grateful we chose the used route. For anybody young who doesn’t want to go into debt, it can be easy and debt free!!!!!

lol it wasn’t frame failure. I think its awesome you found your perfect rig and are living life the way you want. That’s the beauty of Rv life, there’s a rig, style and approach for everyone. I don’t believe there is a right or wrong way… just do you and goooooo!

We have been on the road now for 5 years. My husband retired, we thought about it and planned for 2 years, sold our house and all vehicles, bought a truck and a fifth wheel and left. Cold turkey! We recognize many things of what you bring up, but for us the difference has been our volunteering. We volunteer full time for the National Park Service or Forest Service. These gigs are 3 to 5 months, you always have a RV pad with hook-ups in a beautiful spot in the park and you work 4 days a week with Park- or Forest Rangers who provide you with your social hang out group. Moving from one park to the next we use RV parks next to the high way for a single over night and we never drive more than 5 or 6 hours per day. Keeps stress and arguments to a minimum.
We have been lucky with our RV. Bought it new and we have had small things to repair but just that: small things I could do myself. We love and probably go on for another 5 years.

OMG, I drove thru the TN mountains in Gatlinburg over 10 years ago, & I haven’t been back. I also never knew how scary it can be. I was alone, the roads & mountains were full of snow & ice. Other cars beeping at me & speeding around me because it was only 2 lanes total 🟰 (1 each way). I thought I was going to die, no lie. I TOTALLY empathize with you. Be careful!

Been full timing since 2020. Loving it . Sold my home and never looked back. Living on the cheap. More money in my pocket than keeping up the upkeep of a home. Its not all rosy but what is ? Never had a problem finding a place to park . Never use rv parks. If I want to stay in an area for a while. I'll find a mom and pop business that has a large parking area and go in and put 150 dollars on the counter and ask if I can park there for a month. HAVENT BEEN TURNED DOWN YET! I I have a fully self contained truck camper. Be respectful and don't leave a mess . I have been asked to return if I would like to

Finally a positive review. I grew up working on a commercial shrimping vessel and that my friend is TIGHT LIVING! We, 3 grown working men with very limited resources spend 30-60 days so far offshore that the birds dare not follow. The wooden cabin on these boats are very tiny and the life isn’t for everyone. With that said the camper life looks like a vacation to me. I’m within 6-8 years of retirement and have just sold my home of thirty years. I’m encouraged by your comment to make that big purchase and travel the country as a now Union plumber living the camper life as you have just described. Mom and pop businesses always need a plumber so bartering for monthly rental space is a charm as you mentioned so well. My best friend is my blue Merle so hotel living isn’t allowed as dogs are forbidden in hotels. I’ll be chasing Union pension credits to wrap up my career of 30+ years and between your comment and my experience as a professional waterman I’ve decided to drop 80g on my first camping rig and hit the road just as you have so brilliantly described here. Thank you and ride cowboy, ride, off into the sunset !

    Recommendations
    1. If you have never camped, driven a rig start of small. Get settled and then go bigger if needed.
Your rig is way too big if you are wanting to go go.
    2. Hopefully you are able to do some of the fixes yourself will help however if you are working it might be better to have someone else do the work. In most cases it's less stressful.
    3. You need separate hobbies, that way you are not constantly together. It's important.
    4. Be sure to exercise even if it's walking every day. Getting out of rig, does not have to be expensive.
    5. Meeting people can be hard but that is where parks, federal campgrounds, etc. A lot of these 55 communities have activitivies. Plan on staying for 3-4weeks and change up your travel. Especially if your working you should be able to do that once in awhile.
Face Time family and friends, scrap booking and writing in a journey can help.
    Best of travels to everyone!!

Same here! In our 50s, sold all our stuff, work full time, never done anything like this before, never driven a dually, never towed before. I’m afraid of heights so I don’t love mountain driving so much. Lots of things we can relate to! Funny, I do a talk at RV conferences “I’m sorry for what I said, while we were trying to park the camper” ;-) and its about the ‘mind chatter’ that causes stressful drives, arguing when its time to park, challenges with living in a small space, etc..etc… one day I might just record it and put it on our channel. I did this talk at the FMCA Tucson in 2022 and the Grand Design Owners Rally in Granby Colorado. Anyway, We’d love to see ya on the road some day! We’re doing Route 66 this year, West to East.

I guarantee you that a well maintained preowned 25 year old RV will have less mechanical problems than new RV’s.
ALL of the new trailers out of Indiana are pretty much JUNK. I “know” because I used to build them.
Buying any trailer with slide outs is asking for trouble.
For you new people thinking about RV life here’s some FACTUAL INFORMATION…
Buy preowned private party, you’ll save a LOT of money.
    Keep it simple.
Buy the shortest rig you can live with.
In RV’s giant rigs can be a burden.
Bigger and fancier IS NOT better.
ALL trailers and motorhomes used to be built BETTER … buy PRE 2000 , they’re built BETTER.

LOL you answered my thoughts about how to cure anxiety I was going to say give her a .05mg Axnax fix her for a while anyhow. Then again can't be driving a big rig all jacked up on meds for the rest of your life. Truckers do it all the time. I was wondering about that part of Rving though. It's pouring rain in the mountains getting dark in the middle of nowhere and you star hearing strange noises from the back that you never heard before. You turn to her and say did you just hear that. If something is going to break its not going to be at the gas station during daylight hours next to a local RV repair shop, its just the way it works.. And never ever say what more can go wrong because it will rain havoc on you. Safe travels my friends..

    • @liketheresnotomorrow

lol. We never drive at night, more than 4 hours in a day (except for this last stint when we needed to get to IN from AZ in a few weeks and only had weekends to do it). We tend to start early to leave a window for any issues that might arise. We have tire pressure monitors on all the tires to help cut back on tire blows. At least it gives us time to pull over. So far (knock on something) we've never had any major issue on a move day.

Good on you both for covering the fuzzy side of things. And I have to say, ballsy of you both for jumping off the deep end into the adventure. I have a ton of respect and admiration for that outlook. Life is too short to waste on anything less. Having lived on a 27ft sailboat for over 3 years and in other 'alternate' situations that may not have been the easiest at first, I am going into full-timing in just a few months with a lot of advance knowledge. I'm totally good with the various challenges of this kind of lifestyle and genuinely crave it. For those who have 'never', if you cannot have that open mindset then you really should rethink and maybe dabble before you jump off. For those who can open their minds and be willing to adapt, the rewards can be enormous. Hope to see you all down the trail somewhere, cheers.

Great video. My wife is one that wants a place of residence and does not want to go (will not go) full time. Realistically I'm probably the same. So, as they say, I have to live vicariously through those that travel full time. That points you made have been made by other CZcamsrs, but not many. The more they are repeated hopefully will save some from making a bad and expensive mistake. Our hope is to be able to travel 4 to 6 weeks at a time, coming back home to refresh and go again. • @liketheresnotomorrow
      @liketheresnotomorrow  Před 2 měsíci +2

I have to completely disagree. As someone doing this lifestyle, living this lifestyle, and friends with hundreds of other full timers, you do not have to be “well off”. Many operate at a fraction of what we do. It’s always a choice depending on your situation. “Well off is also subjective”. As for dangerous, I have no idea what you are talking about… and obviously neither do you. By the way, what kind of Rv do you have and live in? How many years experience and knowledge do you have? Just curious. I think we all are…

My partner and I are renovating a vintage camper and hauling it with a 23 year old Tundra BECAUSE we are not well off. As much as a nomadic life is 100% my cup of tea and I would choose it regardless, even if it wasn’t, we wouldn’t have much of a choice right now. At least not for a few years. Once rent and a few other expenses (that will be unnecessary when we move into the camper full time) are removed from our lives, my total bills will be less than $400 a month, which makes food, gas, and saving back money for inevitable repairs and emergencies easy. We are both potters and know potters all over the country so we’ll always have kiln space.
As for safety, outside of a little common sense, there are countless measures to take to not just protect yourself, but your house on wheels from would-be intruders. It’s all a google search away. 😉
