- Can you believe he's only 15? 😱 On our last trip to Japan we stopped off in Otsu, Japan and spent a couple days filming with our friend Isamu Yamamoto. Isamu is only 15 years old and is considered one of the worlds best freestyle skateboarders winning the World Round-Up Freestyle Skateboarding Championships in 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2019

And with steeze. Normally it would become boring after the second because it would be repetetive. But the way his feet are set symmetrical on the board and the speed he does it with makes it one refreshing hell of a trick more than a line.

This boy is insane but It makes me realize how good rodney Mullen was. Because after almost 40 years kids are not able to do much much more than he did and in top of that rodney created those tricks with worst skateboards and no people to learn from. How ta hell he did that??!!

That just comes down to creativity its not a matter of skill
I was trying to come up with how to say this delicately because the kid is super talented. I watched that 1986 clip of mullen in a contest to compare and there is almost no progress from that to this. I don’t think this world champion could have won that contest 34 years ago.
Don't forget about primo and his wife Diane.
The deck he's using is probably 35 years old. I had the same one back in the day, but couldn't do shit with it of course.
Love this kid, could tell he's highly inspired by Rodney Mullen and him being my favorite skater.....instant respect if you could land those tricks.

if ankle smashings an issue just try skateboard tricks with a longboard. itll hurt more and when you switch back the mobility level is insane.
the pain from the longboard is a conditioning thing. your skin and bone toughin up more over time, that or maybe i just got used to bruised ankles?

It's been 30 YEARS since I've seen a fingerflip. And probably 25 years since I've seen any true freestyle skateboarding. Well, since whenever Rodney Mullen and Darwin Song were battling it out for most insane freestyle run ever. Props to this dude for helping keep it alive!

I saw an interview where his dad drove him there and watched him the whole day too. he was already 20. it reminded me of the end of Mullen's vid on Virtual Reality, "I love you, Mom. -Rodney"

This kid is amazing but it really makes you see how ridiculously good Rodney Mullen is when you watch him doing freestyle in the 80s and he was already doing most of this stuff as a child/young adult himself! Fascinating how one person can be so ahead of his time.

Not a tony hawk style of boarding. Look up Rodney Mullen. There just very different styles of skating. Tony hawk is heavily reliant on verts, rails, pipes, an actual skatepark type of scene not just flat ground.

Great stuff! Freestyle is such an under appreciated skill set. I'm an average freestyler but when people see me they go nuts I guess because it's things they've never seen before. I always tell them to go online and research freestyle, and that the'll be amazed what's out there. I've skated with Japan Freestylers and they are such awesome people. Isamu, you are amazing.
