🥧. Sebby, I love and appreciate your vids and have a question I don’t recall you covering before…. You talk about downloading strategies here, but what about upgrading a card to get a SUB? I have a CSR and love that, but have had a United Explorer for like 4 or 5 years and I think I want to upgrade it to a Quest. Is that just a new app altogether? I don’t want to dilute the credit line between the 2 cards (although I know that can be moved around once established). Any thoughts on best approach to upgrading? Thanks for all you do!

🥧 Currently at 4/24. Ones on my list are World of Hyatt card and IHG Premier card. Think I am going all in on Hyatt with their superior point redemption rate. Earning isn't great: can do almost as good on some categories, better on others with Chase cards. Strategy is to use it as an "everything else" card up to $15k free night award. IHG would be backup hotel card (Hyatt isn't everywhere I need it) and want sign up bonus for future trips. Overall, the goal is max yield from spend. I think I can get more juice out of squeezing Hyatt's loyalty program (using its superpower - high redemption rate) than juice from simple cash back cards (e.g., X1).

    So real quick question
I managed to get the flex last year August
I got the venture X October
Got the unlimited in January (for the match points back at the end of the year thing)
And then I got a capital one business
Does that mean I am at 4/24?
Because I wanted to add the Amazon prime card and then the reserve
But if the capital one business counts as a card
Then am I out of luck?

I can only get one more card before the 5/24 rule kicks in. Trying to determine if I go for Hyatt or united airlines. I will get the flex later. Picked up the sapphire preferred in branch to get that extra 10k points. Next year I'll upgrade to the reserve. I don't plan on using any points this year. December ill get my double points from my freedom unlimited, my 85k preferred then wait to upgrade to the reserve. 😈
Sebby. I'm conflicted about my next move.. I'm really enjoying marriott properties. I have a big disney world trip planned end of year. Should I spring for the amex bonvoy brilliant for the platinum status to *possibly* get a nice upgrade. Or wait 19 months to get a sign on bonus. Debating.
Will be upgrading my bonvoy card to the ritz next year.

@@AskSebby I grabbed the CIP a few months ago for the sign up bonus and a small build project that put me well within the sign-up bonus spend. I have CSP after downgrade from CSR I picked up back in 2019, I think. Given the 48 month rule, I will probably downgrade CSP to some freedom type card, then re-apply for CSR (I guess? Whichever has the greater sign-up bonus). Plus, if you're trying to develop the business relationship with Chase then having the CIP helps that. Otherwise, I'm having similar thoughts as OP: Is there practical value for CIP and CSP simultaneously?

Most issuers report the original open date for AU cards (I believe Amex is the main exception), so if someone is added to a card that's more than 2 years old, it won't ever affect 5/24.

Would you recommend getting a new Chase card or the Bilt Mastercard?
I rent right now but realize that there is a chance that Wells Fargo might not be renewing the contract in 2029, so I don’t know what kind of impacts that might have if the credit card is no longer useable

Chase. You're going to have to spend a lot of money on the Bilt card to even get the equivalent of a Chase intro bonus. Why lock yourself out of 5/24 for no reason when WF doesn't have a rule like that?

@@AskSebby That makes sense, I just got the Chase Sapphire Preferred in May 2023, and it is the only Chase card I have, so if the welcome bonus on Chase’s non-cobranded cards were less, I wasn’t sure if it would worth considering one of Chase’s cobranded cards then

🥧🥧Were any of these rules new? They all sounded like they were the standard historical rules.

@AskSebby don't get me wrong I was just curious. Now I know a little bit about it for some psychological reasons. 😀

I've read of data points showing both yes and no. 😬

The Chase World of Hyatt card is a great card if you travel and stay at Hyatts. 9X points on spend at Hyatt.

Better earning for sure, but people just farm Chase for subs, I bet a lot of that hot pink card holder he uses is full of semi retired Chase products

Don't forget that there are cobranded cards as well. Some people are SW loyalists or Marriott, and they are by Chase (there are Amex Marriott as well).
