ALSOOOOO sorry that the end of the video is cut off. We didn't notice until it was too late, and the video absolutely had to go out today. All I said at the end was that item customization is a surprising but very welcome addition that makes the game so much better, and I wonder if there will be any other random updates.

I know right? I am so obsessed with what this, probably not THAT deeply thought out, creative choice means for the Mario lore.
Like... parts of the Berlin-wall being sapient means that they were either in the EMPLOY of the military, or forced into that service. Were they fervent supporters and believers of communism, or victims made to serve? Were they sometimes bribed to stand up so that little German Toads could sneak in and out? Were they allowed to just thwomp people to death if they tried to cross? Are there Toads in their 50's+ who grew up near the wall and who still to this day flinch whenever they hear their "EUGH" because back when they were sprouts that sound meant someone tried to make a run and got turned into mushroom omelette, and now they can't bear to look them in the eyes even as their spores just see them as large canvases to tag on because they know the blood that is on their blocky bodies? Were some of them charged for what they did? Were they torn down or just made to stand down? Are the ones there now the same Thwomps as back then, or are they like some kind of grisly carnival mascot, hired to recreate the look of the old wall? If they're the same as before then what does THAT mean, why are they still sticking to such an awful task? Who makes being a _border-wall_ their 9-5, let alone a _defunct_ border-wall?
Nintendo didn't have to open this Pandora's box, yet here we are!

London Loop: I really love the fog and rising bridge. Plus, the chain chomps in the canals on lap 3 is a nice touch.
Boo Lake: Way too short, but at least the music is good and we finally have another spooky track in the game.
Rock Rock Mountain: The ugliest track in the wave, but the long gliding segment and climb up the mountain never get old.
Maple Treeway: A classic with amazing music and halfpipes are finally in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Berlin Byways: I love that whomps are finally enemies in a Mario Kart track plus the traffic adds some more flare.
Peach Gardens: The new Mario hedges are beautiful, and the backwards lap 3 is a great addition.
Merry Mountain: I love the Christmas presents and the beautiful holiday music plus the anti-gravity part at the end, but it feels short.
Rainbow Road: Absolutely amazing HD rendition of one of the best Mario Kart tracks ever. I love all the added star rings and anti-gravity on the moon. Plus, the dash panels at the start of section 3 being changed from black to rainbow is great. My one complaint is the track looks a lot darker now.

Even though I enjoy the city tracks a lot, I can understand this feeling, most of the city tracks we’ve seen, aside from Sydney, were the first ones that were added in Tour, and, following the Mario Kart design curve, the first tracks tend to be the most simple before we get to the most developed ones. From the city tracks left in Tour, I can assure all of them are way more interesting, with entire sections out of the streets and extremely pretty atmospheres and there’s a chance some of them could become fan favorites with time.

I have only a passing interest in these tracks, so it's cool to see them and get a perspective from a CZcamsr that I already like and follow. Actively seeking out info/reviews on these is more work than I'm willing to do. I'm also in a similar boat when it comes to Mario Kart. I really do like it, but I'm just not super duper into it.
BTW, basically all of the courses in these packs are from MK Tour (with plenty of tweaks). The ones from previous games are based on the MK Tour remakes of those tracks.

This so much, Mario Kart has an established meta... meaning even with new tracks it is the same characters, same stats, same parts. Nothing new. A track is fun for the first 1-2 races but then it is just the same as everything else.
A mixture of tracks, parts, and characters is what makes Mario Kart fun.

I think every track has something to bring to the table in this pack and I love it. I originally hated Mario Kart Tour and the idea of having real city tracks but they’ve grown on me completely since then so they don’t bring this down at all.
London Loop’s rising bridge and loose chain chomps are great, Boo Lake has such a great atmosphere with its music and visuals and I love how much it’s changed from the GBA version, Alpine Pass has amazing glider sections and shortcuts because that level was designed to show off the new gliding mechanics in Mario Kart 7, Maple Treeway is just an amazing track in general and I love that it brings back the halfpipes, Berlin Byways has such great music and a section where the racers cross over, it also brings Whomps into the series for the first time, Peach Gardens is another great glow up and I love the Paris Promenade style reverse lap at the end, Merry Mountain is perfect for the current season, also has a half pipe and makes me think of the Polar Express which is great too and 3DS Rainbow Road is just Mario Kart perfection, the theming, the music, the unique elements and that Road texture for the rainbow parts has got to be the best looking one of all the Rainbow Roads in Mario Kart history.

Regarding the Rainbow Road space theme, pretty much all rainbow roads since Wii (and, to be honest, a few of the ones before) have been space themed. Mario Kart Wii's rainbow road (which will probably be in the last wave), was space themed to tie in with super Mario Galaxy.

I have a feeling that the reason we don’t see labels on some of these Tour courses such as Ninja Hideaway and Merry Mountain is because they were intended to debut in both Tour *AND* Mario Kart 8 Deluxe simultaneously.
Notice that Merry Mountain didn’t release until about two years ago, and Ninja Hideaway only made its debut last year. It makes me wonder if this Booster Course Pass was intended to drop a lot sooner (2021 perhaps), but of course… “the virus” delayed a lot of things internally.
Basically, they planned on debuting courses across two concurrent Mario Kart games simultaneously, rather like Sky-High Sundae.
This would definitely explain the lack of a Tour prefix a lot better than “because they’re not city tracks.”

GBA Boo Lake wasn’t really pulling from anything other than the Tour incarnation… which released a month or two before this DLC. So it essentially debuted in both Tour and 8DX at the same time, as did DS Peach Gardens. Interestingly, even though Tour actually made an original musical arrangement for GBA Boo Lake, 8DX has an entirely *separate* version.

  • @PokeRedstone
    @PokeRedstone Před rokem +1

I think it should be noted that all of the DLC tracks are from tour. All of these incarnations are pulled directly from tour and adapted without too much money put into it. And before that a good portion of them were ported from 7 to tour. It’s why all the furniture and onlookers (toads n yoshis) look the wrong size. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, I’m just saying that tour (and 7) should be given some credit for this, especially considering they’ve chosen to not label Merry Mountain, Ninja Hideaway, and Sky High Sundae as tour tracks, which they are.

7:32 At this point I think they got all the 'boring' city tracks outta the way, so it should get better from now on. Vancouver Velocity and Singapore Speedway both have the coolest track designs out of the Tour cities IMO, LA Laps and Amsterdam Drift are a little below them but not by a whole lot, and Bangkok Rush looks...promising, but we don't know what all of its routes look like yet since MKT only released its first one so far since its introduction.

  • @WeeklyMusicalShitposts

3:55 I've got news for you. 100% of the tracks are from Tour. The city-specific ones were made especially for Tour, yes, but all of the tracks are just slightly modified from their versions that currently exist on Tour. Tour also has originals like Merry Mountain and the Samurai level that are good, so a map being designed for Tour does not make it bad. The cities are just relatively bland because they're based on the real world.
But yeah, 100% Tour tracks. Very surprised no one is talking about this.

I think London Loop missed some awesome oppurtunites. Why not make it a one lap course with 3 sections like N64 Rainbow Road, but each section is a different part of the city? Imagine driving through the Houses of Parliament, up the spire of Big Ben, through the London Eye then down the Maw and through the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

I was one of the OGs that played Tour when it first came out, and for the DLC for 8, I’m all about the graphical upgrade from a mobile phone app to console. That’s what makes them breathtaking imo.

As someone who *decently* enjoys Mario Kart Tour, I've actually been pretty happy to see the city tracks make their way to 8 Deluxe. I had always felt like they were better suited for a *proper* Mario Kart game, instead of one where "combos" are king. And they've delivered, especially in terms of incorporating the different variants from Tour by having each lap be different!
I've enjoyed them all so far, including Berlin Byways... but I agree that London Loop is kind of meh. Even in Tour, it just didn't feel as neat as the other city tracks. And the music doesn't feel like it fits the associated city as well as the other city tracks.
P.S. Not sure if anyone else said it, but since you were wondering about a "previous adaptation": GBA Boo Lake did get remade in Mario Kart Tour a couple months ago, and the version we have here is almost the exact same, minus having antigravity that Tour lacks.
