I love the animation of him running into a horizontal warp pipe. The way he reaches back out to grab his hat, and the little look-around before he comes out the other end, it's so cartoonish, and such a vast upgrade over the tradition of just having him slowly slide through the opening. It adds just a little more personality to him.

You also see that with the slowed down part where he's talking about the background gameplay. The slowed animation highlights how after popping out of the pipe Peach has to cartoonishly exert physical effort to get anything else but her head out of the pipe and continue playing.

      # 0001 To me it seems like this kind of style feels a bit like from the Rayman Origins/Legends games when the characters do these little "quirks" whenever they do certain things. Makes me "wonder" if they took inspiration from them since Nintendo and Ubi are affiliated with each other.
And as for Peach, I'm very much confident that her coming out the pipe like that was a callback from Doki Doki Mario 2. Just like how she would sorta struggle to pull turnips and stuff off the ground.

I feel like the last time we saw Mario be "wierd" was back in Odyssey. All the different kingdoms in that game with the diverse people inhabiting them and how unique they looked from one another. Then there's the Capture ability and all of the creatures and objects that you could never imagine taking control of. I still remember having my mind blown seeing Bowser ride up to Mario and Cappy on the back of a realistic dragon. And then that just stopped the following year with Mario Tennis Aces, where it was almost kind if your generic Mario sports game. And Mario just kind of stuck like that for the rest of the Switch's lifespan until Wonder, where now we actually see Nintendo finally go back to experimenting with Mario and making him weird again. It's a breath of fresh air after 6 years.

It’s so interesting just rewatching the trailer footage. It’s a unique 2d look for Mario. I dont know if anyone else feels this way but this gives me a similar claymation feel to it. It's not quite as cartoony, but the part where Mario enters and exits the horizontal pipe reminds me a lot of Rayman's use of 2.5D. Daisy being playable in a mainline 2D Mario Platform is kinda crazy; especially since you'd think it would've had happened already by now.

I noticed there are many things to collect in these stages:
    - Coins (the usual coins we've always seen)
    - Purple Coins (separate counter; I wonder about the significance)
    - Purple Shards (each shard adds 0.1 to the Purple Coins' counter)
    - Giant Purple Coins (when collected, a piece of UI appears, tracking all of them collected in a stage - these seem to be a main collectable, but for what purpose, we'll have to wait and see)
    - Wonder Seeds (I believe these are THE main collectable, as not only is the game named after them, but you get one for completing a stage - perhaps these are used to progress, like green stars?)

I think they might be retconning Sarassaland. The new place is called the Flower Kingdom, Daisy is playable, and She's always used a flower as her icon. Maybe the new story is this is her kingdom?

I'm a little concerned that the random effect for the wonder flower will be contained to a handful of the seen random effects that it becomes formulaic and predictable. I hope they keep a lot more surprises a secret like totk!

Mario games don't usually use a level gimmick more than twice. You'll get one level that does a thing, and then another level much later in the game that acts as a sequel to that level.
Wonder effects will appear twice at most, with some only appearing once. And they're not going to be random, either.

only thing i'm worried-ish about is that it seems like everyone has the same moveset?
in past games playing as luigi makes you slippery and gives you a higher jump, peach is slower but has a hover ability, toad can't jump as high but runs faster, etc.
but from what i could see it seems like everyone plays about the same, to the point of peach pulling out a plumber-style hat to float down just like mario's in the clip and luigi's on the cover art

I don't know if it has been discussed before, but to me, Wonder feels like it aims to be the updated versions of Super Mario Land, which also included a lot of interesting and weird mechanics, enemies and interactions. And I am all for it because I loved the Super Mario Lands, specially the 2nd one

Games have been stepping up their animation game recently. If you’re wondering why it looks so good to watch, it’s because of the use of timing and anticipation. Characters will hold the same position for multiple frames before making an energetic action, such as holding their hands close to their chest for a second before quickly throwing them out to the side in the air. Also there is some little uses of squash and stretch.

No Arlo, there's nothing weird about a plumber who falls down a pipe into a mushroom land ruled by a pretty in pink princess and her royal subjects of Starr. He eats mushrooms and it makes him unable to get one-shotted. The hills have eyes, so do the clouds and trees. There's also dinosaurs, and a big spikey turtle with orange hair on his head who rules over lesser turtles named Koopas. Dont forget Goombas, what are they? The world may never know. This was all completely normal from the start.

The voice acting will definitely make the stages more memorable. Even if the levels all used the same stage gimmicks, you'd be able to recall "Oh yeah, this is the stage with this quip, or this joke". That, plus all the new stuff they'll likely sprinkle into the levels means this will probably be the first 2D Mario game since World where I'll be able to look at the map and tell you what each level is from memory.
