Is Your Dyson DC24 Making A Screaming or Sighing Noise?

  • If you've noticed that your Dyson DC24 is making a funny noise, there's a good chance it's a simple fix. Often a noise that sounds like a squeak, sigh, or scream -- high pitched and annoying -- when you turn your vacuum on and when you turn it off, is connected to a filter issue.
    All you need to do is change the filter inside the ball.
    Do NOT wash it. Some say you can, but I've found that the material doesn't dry well and clean well. Plus, it's a relatively inexpensive filter, so you might as well just install a new one.
    Now, you CAN successfully wash out the top filter, and we recommend doing that at least once per month. Watch the video for these quick tips and see if this eliminates that annoying sound in your Dyson DC24!

    My DC25 is about 9 years old and was making that high-pitched wind down when powered off. I bought a new post filter from Dyson as you suggested, and I feel like I have a brand new vacuum. Problem solved. Thank you so much!

    Great video addresses my problem perfectly. Yes, you are right - I washed mine, and it got better, but still howled some during use, and for sure on shut-down. In appreciation, I used your link and ordered from you folks. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks.

      @@kimberly.thomason Al Rood here - just wanted to follow up. I bought that filter from you and it arrived today. First thing I noticed was I could see light through it. I could not see light through my old one, even though I had washed and dried it several times. I PUT YOUR NEW ONE IN AND IT WORKED GREAT. Thanks for bringing my vacuum back to like-new sounding (and it probably sucks harder, since air can get through the new filter easier).

      @@kimberly.thomason No. but I did the only thing they said not to do and that was rinse the filter. I picked this up for free and now that I’m working on it, it’s um, a piece of sh*t 😆. Though, my regular Dyson is making a similar noise but the real filters are expensive, so I am going to hold off for a while.

    Thanks for the concise video. I was having this issue, so I washed all the filters. Now the suction is great but the whine continues. I removed the exhaust filter and ran the vac, but it still whined, so I don't think that is the issue. The sound is definitely coming from the motor. Any suggestions?

    • @kimberly.thomason
      @kimberly.thomason  Před rokem

      If you have determined the whine isn't from the filters, then you are probably correct about the motor. The only way to change the sound is by replacing the motor. The motors are not serviceable. If you want to text us a video just for us to verify...please do 561-558-9339

    I'm seeing a lot of thinly veiled contempt from MANY vacuum repair shops for Dysons. I think that although they aren't the best vacuum around, when you have pets and kids and you need to vacuum constantly: 1) I like to not have to buy replacement bags, which could be argued is also better for the environment and 2) it's satisfying to see that the vacuum is working when you start out empty and quickly see piles of dog hair and dirt swirling around. All that being said, I have an open mind. Why should I get a bagged vacuum? What brand do you use or recommend?

    • @kimberly.thomason
      @kimberly.thomason  Před rokem +1

      Dave, you are very wise. There is much contempt from us specialty vacuum dealers for Dyson. Maybe it's jealously..they are a massive company with most of the market share. For me, my contempt comes from brands (not just Dyson) who market a product to the masses but don't make an effort to make sure that the product is being used in the right situation. Also, it upsets me that most brands are marketing bagless, knowing full well it is not the healthiest choice for consumers. Bags hold waaaay more dirt than vacuums with dirt cups. Usually, 5-20 times more dirt. You put a garbage bag in your kitchen garbage can right? Then why wouldn't you contain your vacuum dirt in one? I completely agree it's super satisfying seeing the dirt that was picked up swirling around, but to me, it's more satisfying knowing the dirt that is being picked up is staying in the vacuum. Bags are better for allergies, hold more dirt, bagged vacuums require less maintenance, and (most) won't lose performance as they get filled or dirty. We sell Riccar, Sebo, Miele, Oreck, Simplicity. All have their benefits and all are bagged models.

    • @kimberly.thomason
      @kimberly.thomason  Před rokem

      Some brands have them. They are called “shake out bags” They still tend to be messy and you’re still exposed to dust and dirt.

    • @kimberly.thomason
      @kimberly.thomason  Před rokem

      Sorry I forgot to do that. It wasn’t on purpose. 90% of the time a new filter fixes it. Sometimes a new filter still allows the noise because it wasn’t made well so you need those white seals to help. You can even try the white seals first, but it’s always good to change your filter…

    9 times out of 10.... what about the 1 other time!? 🤣 I have 2 DC25s with new filters and heads... and also a new dust bin... but 1 of them has a depressed, lonely wolf howl when turning off. Runs great... just sounds like it's slowly dying a painful death upon shutdown. Not sure if the motor is slowly going out or if there's a very slight vacuum leak in just the right spot to make it sound like a 747 that just hit the tarmac and is winding down to pull up to the terminal.

      You absolutely can try that first. Usually, after washing when customers still hear this noise...its time to replace. I also don't love washing this particular filter because its made from a paper like material and doesn't tend to dry well. It tends to leave musty smells.
