How about same race, half loaded, and then fully loaded. That would be an interesting comparison. In battle you don’t fly clean.
By loading I mean full fuel and half or full ordinance for an Air to Air mission.
IIRC the main issue is the CFT pylons, they are weirdly shaped and extremely draggy. Tbf we all knew this plane isnt gonna be a super dogfighter, its probably better at high altitude BVR. And otherwise its just a bomber.
You could try having three gates spaced evenly. You could then say which leg of the race each aircraft won and the aircraft with the lowest average score wins.

The F15E is like a diesel truck. It might not be the fastest, but it doesn't lose nearly as much performance as the others when everyone is carrying a combat load.
cough mach 2.5+ who cares what the 0-300knots speed is. Whats the 0.95 to ??? over say 30 miles at 31000 feet. It'll be a completely different race.
Would also be run to see a combat load out drag race. Completely different story.
Tbf F-15C, SU-27, F-14, etc are all heavy planes, its not like the F-15E is much bigger. Its just quite draggy with those CFTs+Pylons and weight.
I think its gonna bring a huge amount of fuel though. You got those big fuel tanks and can have two more drop tanks. Thatll get you very far, and is probably showing why this plane is mainly used as a bomber. Not F-111 levels of range, but a lot more versatile in any other situation.
I also wonder if the engines will perform better at high altitude or higher speeds. In theory they should produce a LOT of thrust, more T/W than an F-15C.

@termitreter6545 I've heard the F-15E is MUCH heavier than the C. I think one Mud Hen pilot said an F-15C with 8 missiles and a full load of gas weighs the same as an F-15E sitting stripped and dry on the ramp. Then when you add that the CFTs have more drag than the wing drop tanks... woof.

Bro the F15 is THE greatest hands down air dominice aircraft ever made...that could do bombing in it's golden years is a far better way to explain the F15. Oh and it can do mach 2.5+ (Nobody really knows the full speed unclassified number, but it's greater than 2.5 mach) Even the F16 can't do that.
The F-15E is effectively a medium bomber rather than a fighter. I'd love to see a comparison of bomb trucks. For that matter it would be awesome to have the F-111 variants!
The land-based versions with the long wings(F-111C/G) were the best looking.

F-111 and F105 are the most sorely needed Cold War American aircraft. I would kill to get those and the su24. Honestly even an fc3 type fighter-bomber pack would be incredible.

F15e of course has the back seat and conformal fuel tanks so much heavier compared to its C counter part eject your WSO for extra speed haha
do this with all fighters carrying 2 equal radar long range guided and 2 equal IR short range missiles.
this loadout would be a far more reasonable QRA purpose for the speed.
Jf17 would be dead last and the F16 would be towards the rear.

I was playing around with it with low fuel loads yesterday, and the E could maintain Mach 2.2 on afterburner after running out of fuel. You should rerun the test with 1% fuel, before Razbam fixes that bug.
Was the bug the reason it was slower?
M2.2 clean is actually the correct max speed, although obviously only while the engines are still running lol
@@92HazelMocha Wikipedia says 2.5, but that might also be without the missile racks that we can't remove currently. And the engines were running with zero fuel, with full burner. That's the bug.
@@DemoNotReal I would think it made the jet faster, because of the lower weight. I was suggesting it as a way to cheat to increase the T/W ratio.
@@j4s0n39 Theoretically it should be possible to get that thing to 2.5 and maybe even more, yes. But the CFTs have a safety limit of M 2.0. Well, add a 10% margin and 2.2 is still fine, I guess, but you should still be accelerating and more or less required to throttle back to keep your maintenance crew happy.
BTW I only managed to push it to just below 1.8. But I encountered the bug where past M 1.42 above 30k ft the fuel flow somehow goes negative and the thing fills its tanks up magically, making it uncredibly heavy ofc.

Drag Race is the best competition ever! I wish you guys would do it more often 😊 For example a race with the same aircraft. Small inputs would make the difference. Or same aircraft types but at the carriers you have to turn back and the start is the goal...
You do realize the FM still needs a lot of work, right?… the thing “stalls” going 330 indicated. It’s very early early access.
When you want a plane like these to perform the best, you need to be really tight on the AOA. If you let it creep up, it can stick with you the rest of the way. Then you're using thrust as part of your up vector rather than going faster and letting the wings provide the same amount of up vector (or lift). It would be worthwhile to switch pilots around in case you have some in the team that are better at managing their AOA.
The best part is the initial frame I tell ya. That F-16 next to the Su-27, wow!!

I remember trying to get the F4U-1C with 2 Tims and 8 HVARs off the deck in Il-2 PF back in the day. A static deck BTW, so no WOD. It was only possible by leaving the flaps up and the wings folded first and unfolding at the right time as well as putting the flaps down at the right time... :D

F-18 has a bit of an issue with top speed, as soon as it has more than 2/2 missiles. Also high altitude it doesnt perform as well as more dedicated air superiority aircraft (F14, F15, etc).
Both is a pretty big deal in BVR. But thats why the F-18 is primarily a bomber.

3:42 I just tried the 15E today and hat the feeling it accelerates like a bus. It's got more thrust than the C and should at least accelerate about equally fast, especially given the fact the tanks aren't full to the brim. And drag is basically almost neglectible at that speed.

Maybe try again with not 10% of max fuel but everybody gets like 1000lb of fuel (I have no Idea if this more or less of fuel, but u get the idea) or everydody gets enough fuel to go like 250 miles under full afterburner.

I did notice that when the F-15C started ahead of you, his afterburner was lit, but you were still at 100%, no burner so he walked away easily. Look at the video at 3:40. It still probably would not help a ton; however, you got a slow start with no burner.

Interesting video. I wonder how the results might differ if all jets were fully loaded with payloads for the same mission type, ie. all jets loaded for a bombing run, and then again with all jets loaded for a fighter-interceptor role.

Could we not just set all the planes up with say, 1000lbs of fuel across the board? I still think the 16 would win. But it may shake things up a bit for 2nd-6th place. I do think it’s about time for another race through a city.

First of all, many thanks for all the tutorials! They helped a lot.
If I look at the complexity the F-15E is so much more complicated compared to the Hornet. The HRM is the only selling point. Anyway, Hornet and Harrier and Viggen remain my favorites for ground attack.
For drag races, we really need the F-104, or the Jaguar. They would not necessarily win, but they are much more sexy and isn't this what really counts?
Try run this test over a 30 mile run with a height limit of 600ft with check points at 10,20 miles to see how the top speed at low altitude if different to the acceleration. As some the planes are faster but not at take off and ten miles is a short test just a thought.
Now do it with the max load of each aircraft :) Full fuel, bombs, tanks etc
Need to set it up as an intercept race. Each fighter equipped for an interception mission including correct fuel and weapons load. Then race to intercept an inbound bomber (at a realistic range and altitude).
Something to note, that I'm not sure is on the 15E, is the emergency fuel throttle lever, which will cook the engine but opens the throttle completely, essentially unrestricted fuel flow. That for sure is something on the F-15C, and if modeled in DCS, could be responsible for some results

Love seeing all the different air frames together in one video, it gives such an accurate perspective on the relative size of the various aircraft. F-16 for the win! Yea baby, now that's what I'm talking about. A modern, fully updated, F-16 in the hands of good pilot will punch way above its weight, both figuratively and literally.

"It's mainly the power of your jet" - no it's not - it's how efficient the engines are low down - bypass ratios make a huge difference to how a jet accelerates from standstill - Harrier for instance will beat almost anything to 500 knots - it just stops accelerating at that point. The British Rolls Royce engined F-4 is also a monster at low altitude - it will leave a "faster" American F-4 for dust until they are fast and high where the roles will be reversed. Then there are truly special planes like Jaguar which manage to be rubbish at low and high altitudes - that takes some doing!

If ground effect is modeled, try that next time especially over the water. Keep the plane within half a wingspan of the ground and it (should if it’s modeled) start accelerating faster.
Trap speed vs ET is fundamental in real world drag racing - interesting that the MiG-29's trap speed was higher than the F16's while its ET was much slower
I think the Mig-29 has variable geometry intakes, that might explain why it keeps accelerating better under some circumstances. It can burn a ton of fuel and IIRC even destroy its engines that way.
@@termitreter6545MiG-25 is the one that destroys it's engines at mach3. MiG-29 can get to mach2.8 but it won't destroy itself.

F14B should be faster than that. There is almost no case that an F18 would be faster than the Tomcat
This would look WAY different with realistic combat loadouts. The Charlie would probably be out front by a while, then the legacy hornet and strike eagle and viper would be much closer together behind it…

How would the F-104 compare?
Probably about mid-pack. It was really fast for the time, but pretty draggy at low speeds and hits a brick wall trying to punch through the sound barrier compared to modern fighters. I read that with two Starfighters in formation, if one crossed the Mach slightly earlier, he'd shoot out ahead. When the F-15 came out, they started accidentally going supersonic without realizing it, because they were used to feeling that shockwave drag that just wasn't a problem anymore. Also bear in mind, the big, beastly J79 engine only makes as much thrust as one F404 from the Hornet. It's light, but that's not a crazy amount of power when there are Eagles and Vipers on the field.
It was rather interesting that the f15C had a huge advantage at the start but the f16 eventually passed him later on.

CAPPY-MACHEROONERS: The F-15 with 8 missiles and centerline tank, will see 80 knots at idle power by end of runway... said an F-15 pilot during a Maple Flag @ CFB Cold Lake, Alberta, Can-Cana-Canada. Same pilot, same loadout, same CFB, but in winter (a delicious -40C), had to pull power out of AB to prevent going supersonic at the end of the runway. Can the F-16 boast the same? How about an idle race with all jets in similar combat configuration.
NOW, How about 31,000 feet, start the race all doing 0.95 mach for 20 miles. Punch it together flying line abreast at the start line. So get flying, get in line across, all doing 0.95, cross the start line punch it to the 20-25 mile finish line (maybe longer to see real top end speed) Also, I think the harrier would beat everything to 400-450 knots in a drag race.

The F-111 is fast, but not quick. More weight and less thrust than the F-15E at low speeds. Give it space to eat and it'll reel everyone eventually though.

REALLY curious what results would be if we also had F 15 A, some of the later heavier VIpers, and toss in a Foxbat and Foxhound. And add in a F 15 EX ....
Dang, that SU-33 , mr canard flanker, not able to keep up with the rest. Though the 30 vs 35 is the question.....
Add in a F 22 as well - see if it can keep up with the Viper, and C model- thinking it might be the thing to beat the Viper.
Hornet did far better than expected heree- That Fulcrum was just getting going too!
...So if you want to chase a blackbird, and he's just getting started, Viper gets it- otherwise, the C model Eagle(we really need that A model), from the planes here- otherwise, maybe a Fulcrum
If he gets going though- .....I think all Eagles would be up there in that 2.5+ regime- wonder if the strike eagle does better at V max compared to A and C...
