I feel like the $250 commission artist got the short end of the stick a little bit, I know it seemed a bit more simple compared to Jazza's, but that interpretation of the direction of "Tarot-style" is totally on point for a lot of the Rider Waite Tarot decks. Some Tarot decks (especially black & white deck) are SUPER detailed, but most are quite minimalistic to give the Reader room for interpretation. The piece they made 100% fits the Tarot-style description

With the $250 piece, Jazza did a great job, but it didn’t resemble what I commonly view as Tarot card artwork. It upset me to hear that they felt there was a miscommunication with the Fiverr artist, when honestly, the Fiverr artist successfully altered their personal style to fit the requested parameters, whereas Jazza did not. If the commissioner truly just wanted the Fiverr artist’s style to be utilized, that should’ve just been said, instead of requesting a very specific art style like Tarot, which didn’t match Jazza or the Fiverr artist’s usual style at all. Overall, everyone did a great job.
Edit: I’m aware that there are different art styles of Tarot, but my opinion doesn’t really alter even when bringing that into consideration. The point is, the Fiverr artist inarguably used one of those art styles, correct? Yes, It is upsetting that it was not the style the commissioner imagined, but as I expressed, I fear there may have been a lack of specification when speaking to the artist (which they seemingly also felt); therefore, I feel it unfair how they spoke of it-just made me a bit upset for him. I think everyone should appreciate how he switched things up to create what he felt was a more accurate representation of tarot than his own personal style could provide. Just like Jazza, that individual seems willing to try new things! As my other comment on this video details, the video simply felt like it was missing the usual informative, constructive-criticism/positive reinforcement atmosphere that I feel Jazza always provides us with!

But you also should be paid for your skill. Even if it takes only 30 minutes to make something, you've spent years honing your skill to be able to do that (assuming that the drawing actually does look good and not sloppy).
But this is also contradicted by how much normal people are willing to pay for your art. If you raise your prices when few people commissioned you to begin with, you'll probably be making less money than you would have before because no one would be commissioning you. I recommend keeping up multiple social media accounts and promoting yourself, and when you have a steady flow of commissions you can raise your price a little

The $500 category is really hard to pick between because they're such different styles! I think the choice would ultimately be based on what the purpose of the art was. If it was sort of a reference to look at during the game, I'd say Jazza's because the semi-realism and colors make it easier to picture each character in various scenarios. For just an art piece to display, the Fiverr artist really made something special. The use of different texture techniques and colors for each character make them all stand out, and the shapes used to fill in large areas give a great sense of movement and feeling.

$25 Commission 1:30 : Jazza's was well drawn and nicely colored. The second artist's was in my opinion even better drawn due to having more gesture in the lines, but no color. The last one was good and still ok for $25.
$250 Commission 3:52 : This one is the most controversial. Jazza's was very nice for the most part, but didn't look as "Tarot" as the Fiverr artist's drawing. I'd say I preferred Jazza's drawing, but that is irrelevant because the Fiverr artist stuck to the rules more. They should have understood that. They asked for Tarot, they received Tarot.
$500 Commission 8:28 : Jazza really flexed his artistic chops on this one. It was a beauty. HOWEVER, once again, he didn't follow the instructions of the piece as well as the Fiverr artist. He left out the snow and 'spirit of winter' following the elvish woman and the rapier of the 3rd character 'Flint'. So, in a sense, while his artistic skills are still strong, Jazza's "listening" skills are rusty. Maybe he's too used to calling the shots. The Fiverr artist once again, did as instructed and created a beautiful piece in a different style. If I paid $500, I'd want all of the details I requested to be included. Sorry Jazza.

I don’t think it’s a $500 piece, but it’s exactly what I’d expect from this channel pushing content. Same as the 250 piece, 40% of the page was green ink and totally missed the mark of tarot, however I wouldn’t go to jazza for that style.

It has clear, beautiful details of the characters, and with how they were posed gave me the impression that they were a team. The fiver commission is a gorgeous and detailed piece, but looking at it from a mobile phone (which is how I watched the vid) almost detracted from it because its so busy I would have to zoom in to be able to truly see the details. I have been watching you since the start of my art career, and you inspired me to start doing art in the fist place along with a few others like Ross Tran, and The lovely Ella Kremer (Not a youtuber, but arguably my biggest influence), and I am now making a living doing art. I have been doing freelance work for years now, and I have been watching you while growing on my own the whole time. I have come to realize that you have been sacrificing your art a bit for the sake of making more varied content (which there's nothing wrong with), and I think I ended up growing past you in technical skill (of course this is subjective.) But in my eyes you are a youtuber/entrepreneur first, and an artist second. And that's perfectly fine. I think to me, you feel like a dad to the art community, and I bet you are responsible for many young artists starting their career, like myself. When that has been said, I think there's a lot of responsibility in being kind of a "father figure" to the art community. That involves treating the little guy fairly among other things. This video feels like one of 2 things to me. Either its an ad for your art kit, or its you using your platform to cope with imposter syndrome/insecurities by having your own art validated over other smaller artists. Neither of those are very palpable to me. That is my honest opinion. But maybe I'm just no longer part of your target audience.

Normally, you express a lot of gratitude towards other artists and their efforts, and are very supportive of them and their work. It is what I think many of us love about you! I did not see much of that throughout the video, however, and instead it came off slightly judgmental and unappreciative between you and those you work with. I believe this video was simply cut far too short to really shine as an idea, and that is where the odd vibes are stemming from. Furthermore, it felt fairly biased in regards to the “choose your favorite piece” portion, and I expected more of an analysis of what makes each piece good, and what is lacking in each piece in order to come to the conclusion they did. I believe that would’ve helped create more of a learning experience for viewers and fellow artists, and created a better air to the video itself. Overall, constructive criticism is important, and of course, my feelings are simply opinion and not fact. I will start with what I disagree with you Anastasia. In my opinion, artistic fields like drawing are one of the most competitive fields, and here he is a contender, competing with other artists, That's why you see less of gratitude/appreciation and more of criticism/judgment, its the nature of a competition, its an intrinsic element of it. It is different from what Jazza is used to do normally, and this is what you noticed. So, what he did here is naturally correct, but unusual for many to see him in a competitive manner. You appear to me to be against his competitive behavior (and I might be wrong). If my assumption is true, I have to say that I use to be against competition myself and believed in cooperation only, but recently come to realize how important competition is, it should never be discouraged, its one of the primary drivers for us humans to learn and improve and for the fields we are working in to develop and flourish.
And now for what I agree with you on. Having the staff rate him is wrong, as a bias towards him will consciously or unconsciously happen as there is a conflict of interest. But I think this is due to the pressure of time and the pressure to come up with new ideas.

Being a... "starving artist" myself (or at least, I tried to break into the market, failed, and settled for forever being a "hobby" artist) I feel like Jazza (whom I love and have been following for a couple years or more) was definitely worth the $25 and $250 commissions (as did the fiverr artists) but IMO, he did NOT do the $500 commission justice and I think the fiverr artist did.
Reason? The fiverr artist included a background AND was much more detailed as far as the work that went into it is concerned. When I tried the professional artist gig the one thing I noticed was that EVERYONE wanted a background and that the artists always charged MORE for commissions that had backgrounds (because they're more work). If I commissioned a piece for $500, I'd want a background - or at the very least the suggestion of a background. I'd be VERY disappointed with just the characters on (essentially) a blank page. I can get 3 characters without a background on devArt for about $40. For a $500 commission - regardless of what it's supposed to be - I want a background (unless specifically told otherwise). The Fiverr artist did that - gave an almost tapestry-like background that offset the characters that were part of the commission and tied the piece together. Jazza just left it white (apart from the slight glow around the... fairy?)
On saying that, I understand the thought process that Jazza went through, the fact that he can't spend all day (or 3 days) on one art piece for $500 and call it a "paycheck" because he's essentially working for at least... 8? people (4 + jazza in video, jazza's wife + 2 kids) so a single $500 commission isn't worth it and isn't going to fund an entire studio for... an hour much less 3 days worth of work. There's a reason why professional artists are often called "starving artists", $500 doesn't stretch very far especially if you have a partner and 2 kids to feed.
I do love both art pieces (all of them really) I just don't think it's a fair comparison when you weigh Jazza's income needs against professional "commission gigging artists'" because the effort values (assuming that commissions are their 'full time job') that each are putting into the works are going to vary substantially as a result of personal circumstances.

I love this video because so much of what you said is so true and not many people think about it. Time available and the tools you are making determines in a way the range of art you will be making but of course those who do commissions are aware of that, so they price around that. I always have problems pricing my stuff right depending on what supplies and level of complexity a commission is. I loved all the three artworks you made and everything everyone else made, the $250 tier from fiver probably was short on time as well so his piece didn't have much color, still amazing art. Merry Christmas!

I feel like how much jazza genuinely cares about having someone feel like their money was well spent when they go to him, immediately makes him worth $500, he's a sympathetic person who'll go that extra length to talk with the person to give them exactly what they wanted, he's a bit rough around the edges and i wouldn't say he's "professional" (someone brought to my attention he forgot the characters rapier) so because of little details like that i'd probably drop him to like $450-$400, plus im sure little things like that could be worked out with the commissioner

The lack of communication throughout the process has always been my issue with Fiverr. When I do commissions, I have this whole process where I make the sketch and I send it and I'm like "are there any details you want to change?" so that I don't end up wasting time doing lineart and THEN having to ask them to revise it later.

Being brutally honest: I think the $500 commission turned out really good. In the past I have felt like you kind of struggle to really make things look 3 dimensional as much so that they almost pop off the page. In my opinion, 3 dimensionality in art is very important, including ambient occlusion, cast shadows and reflected light and color. All that said, I think the $500 did really pop off the page and show realistic shadows and depth. Great job👏

I think all the commissions are worth the pay, they are all beautiful, everyone has their own.✹
You cannot compare skills between artists because they are all different, they are at different times of experience, etc. It is up to the buyer whether the style is what they want. Viewing various art works and noticing the changes you usually see between art and art. Another thing, I believe that an artist is not a copy machine that simply does the exact same style all the time, because you can grow in your style but use and respect the most significant characteristics that identify your work. And it's true that many content creators grab people's attention for who they are and many art artists tend to be ignored. In the same way, just by looking at Instagram you can see the current art situation, it is very strange. But for something it is said that art is subjective and in the networks with so much of everything it is difficult to be seen ...

This is by far my favorite episode from you for a different reason than originally intended but it helped me greatly. You are revisiting the reality of time, value and self-worth with the pressure of imposter syndrome. Art and psychology are so tightly intertwined at every level. That humble acknowledge of validation in the process while being our own worst critic can be the hardest part at times. Too often comparing work is like apples to oranges. Thanks for being open and real with the monologue Jazza, I think a lot of us needed to hear it. Keep being you.

I feel like Jazza isn't quite comparable to the $25 commissions because he has a much looser schedule than the artists, most likely, which is why he was able to add color to it as well. My favorite of the three $25 ones was the second because the artist really brought life into the pancake demon. For the $250, Jazza's certainly had much better color value, so he easily wins there, and I'd also have to agree with both winning for the $500 commission. Jazza's illustration really brought the characters to life, but the other artist's style is just incredible to look at.

I'm an artist (and coder, writer) and i live in an area with a 15$ minimum, which is what food and rent sets off of. I compete directly against other perfectly good mod makers from places in eastern Europe and SE asia for commissions , places where 300-500$ a month can get you a comfortable life.
