In this video we will be talking about the Dorman aluminum thermostat housing upgrade that replaces the factory plastic version that is prone to leak, break, and cause a check engine light.

You have got to be the best instructor in the industry. Very well explained videos. Good detail. Good video imagery. Not a single complaint!!
They are about 6 months too late....LOL. Glad these thermostat housings finally got upgraded. Love the vids, appreciate the help!
Never avail when you need one lol.
Eh, at least there's a better product now. I'm just waiting on the ticking/knocking from the cams, and the oil cooler to leak. Luckily, you're already a step ahead on the videos for those. This 2011 3.6L (Chrysler T&C) has been pretty resilient, to my surprise. It's the stuff in the rest of the vehicle that's had me ticked off. The TIPM module (fuel pump relay stuck closed) I had to hot wire, change out alternators (3 now), changed out window regulator assy's (3 driver side, twice on the passenger side, all Dorman replacements that had failed along with OEM) and the Remote Start module that is intermittent.
Nice video Dave. Glad to see Dorman stepping up with some good products for the 3.2 and 3.6
Glad to see companies not making the same old part over and over……upgrades are needed from time to time and especially in this case
@@MotorCityMechanic with the means to vacuum fill the coolant system (not needing the bleed screw, will this bolt up correctly 180° so neck is to the right?
Its been a year and still nothing for us in the Jeep world lol
@@MotorCityMechanic does the 3.6 have coolant block drain plug(s)?
Great video. Now im thinking of swapping out the plastic with the aluminum before the plastic breaks.
It’s something to think about. I don’t they they are in the stores just yet.
Thanks, Man! I hate plastic parts.
I fully agree!
Again david awsome i own a 2011chrysler town and country 3.6 love that Engine
Outstanding! Thanks for sharing that! I had a 2011 Dodge Journey with the P0128 code, and when I pulled the thermostat housing, I found the plastic ears that hold the thermostat in place had broken off. I got the pieces out by pulling the lower radiator hose.
On another Dodge Caravan with the 3.6, I told the customer to "harden" the cooling system, so it got Dorman's new aluminum oil cooler manifold and the and the crossover pipe.
Dorman also makes the the heater hose assemblies for Chrysler mini-vans that have an aluminum Y fitting instead of the factory plastic. Another suggested upgrade.
Thanks Dave. Always great to see you. 🙏👏❤️
Dave glad to see ya! hope all is well. Thanks for the update / upgrade information. Take care of yourself!
I appreciate the detail you provide in your video's.
Thanks Dave. As always you answer who, what, when, where and how!
Thanks for the shoutout MotorCity Mechanic!! That piece you need in development will be available soon!
I'll be lining up to buy multiples of those for FWD applications. Can I give you guys a firm nudge to produce more 926-959 aluminum cooler housings. I'll buy 10 right now! Take my money!
@@kipamore - on it :)
available for wrangler (JK) yet?
Glad to hear that. I've been pestering Dorman for a replacement thermostat housing for a year or two.
Thank you David👍. I have a 2012 Avenger. Look forward to the proper Dorman housing for my setup.
Hey man, thanks for taking the time to post another great video. As always, thanks for the info for the Mopar guys.
Your welcome and thank you for watching the videos
Great video man! And a very much worthwhile upgrade.
That light grey powder in thermostat housing looks like user put tap water in system. Thanks David for great info on new Dorman part
Thxs Dave like your updates on parts....
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. Hopefully they will come up something for the early 3.6 Durangos
Great work
Thanks Dave! Exactly therm is sticking in Nov 23 cold here. Already ordered the alum Dorman just wanted to find feedback!!!! Motor on.
This was super dope!! I just replaced my oil filter housing assembly with dorman products because of you!! And to see dorman is making/made the thermostat and crossover pipe out aluminum, I'm beyond excited!! Would it be bad to have it powder coated??
Really good onfo and fix. Viper
Great video David.
This part still does not appear to be available for sale - and not listed on Doorman site. Any news MC Mechanic?
That’s funny I found it no problem
Hopefully Dorman make’s aluminum valve covers!!
Hi David..I already Chang it two month ago with plastic one when I have code and it’s was leaking I put some silicon to stop it…I don’t know what happened I was watching your video last time and after couple days ago I have the code maybe my car was watching your video but you know what aluminum one it’s much better than plastic one….thank your David….
Great video. Thanks!
Great video
It may have already been said, but the Wrangler--- at least the one I have, the crossover part appears to be OEM, so there is probably an engine upgrade already setup by Stellantis. I am really interested in the thermostat housing replacement, even though I just replaced mine (as a precaution ) last year.
HI Dave, it's been a minute. I'll keep an eye on my 2019 300 to see how it's holding up.
Thank you for the vid very helpful.
Thanks for the upload
@Contact Me@MotorCityMechanic cool
Oh yeah great video
Many thanks
This is great. Thanks.
Would love to see an upgrade to the plastic oil filter holder with the spring and ball thing that likes to break over time.
Thanks!
Appreciate all your contents, explaining detailed information. It is really helpful to understand the my Jeep Grand Chrokee. Are you planning to make a video for SOLENOID. Variable Valve Lift. Front? Looks like mine is leaking but, don't have much info here.
this is great news for my charger! Thanks for sharing. Do you , by chance, have the OD of the neck of that Thermostat housing Barb?
Thank you.👍🤙
I had the opposite happen to my 300. I had my mechanic install the Dorman crossover pipe as a preventative measure but it must have been warped because it leaked. Bought a Mopar plastic piece to go back on and, so far so good. It's been about 9 months or so.
I’m going to get it and check it with a straight edge and feeler gauge. As we as check the depth of the gasket grove. If it’s off I’m returning it immediately while showing the issue before disassembling anything.
Everything is suspect now. Even the mopar ones.
(Plus later on I can get the flat sides machined if it’s needed years later, plastic can’t do that.)
like your videos Dave , they have really informed me. I have recently done all those updates to my wife's , 2012 journey 3.6 l.
Can you tell me what make and part number ( after market ) is used to replace the hose (heater ? ) from the tubing running in the bottom front of the engine connecting to the water pump. Not the one from the rad the smaller 1 inch ? one.
thanks..
good to know
Dave - Im a long time viewer and really am grateful for the training you provide.
I have a 2016 Jeep JK Wrangle and tried to find/buy both the aluminum water crossover pipe and thermostat housing. When I go to the Dorman site they say they are not compatible with my vehicle. Do you have insight into where I can buy or if the parts if it's available in aluminum. Thanks in adavnce for the taking time.
I wish Dorman made one for the PT's 2.4l. I've replaced 4 or 5.
What a world were Dorman went from making meme worthy junk to some actually good products!
What about my 2014 Town & Country? Will order both of these to keep mine running longer.
Good video.
Do you have any videos of block heaters in the 3.6? Have you replaced any block heaters? Does the heater in the 3.6 go into the coolant or does it heat the block near a coolant passage? Thanks for your videos. Happy Motoring.
Ok so if you buy that all aluminum thermostat, do you buy a different type of upper radiator hose that bends in a different direction since the thermostat is turned the other way from the original one?
I hope you see this I did the doormen oil filter cooler housing on my 2014 charger had oil in my water replaced it now it's overheating but water coming from radiator is cold ?
I wonder if it's possible to install this flipped over? Dorman had no info for me when the aluminum housing facing the drivers side would be available
David LOVE ur videos VERY DETAILED. I know u have started ur on business. Could u please give me the name of your business please and thanks.
Has there been a crossover pipe and thermostat housing released for the 3.6 wrangler yet then?
Quick question will this make the check engine light go on if we install the metal thermostat since it might run cooler??
any idea what the part number will be for the driver side exit one?
Nice, where can I get one, I have looked everywhere.
Love your videos
I am lucky to get a few if the first before they get released. I kept asking for a metal version and they were listening. Hopefully avail in the near futur
Guys just my 2 cents I have 2 2015 Chrysler 200C AWD with the 3.6 I ran a test and it seems that its working, believe it or not, I remove the huge beauty = noise cover on top of the engine on one and left it one the other one since I purchased both cars in 2017 as lease returns, the day I purchased both at the same dealer, they had to replace the both coolers because obviously both were leaking already with 20K Original miles both were purchased middle 2014 as 2015 models, ANYWAY to make the long story short, both cars are driven more than les the same around 10K miles a year my daughters are using them, the car WITHOUT the beauty cover had it replaced only ONCE when I purchased the cars, the other one with the cover 3 times in TOTAL so, I have a theory that that FRICKING huge beauty cover with all the noise reduction foam is not letting the heat dissipate, it just cooks everything there under it... I just decided to remove the second one since last time the cooler was removed and no issue so far...Thank GOD! I purchased the lifetime warranty on both... spread the word REMOVE THE BEAUTY COVERS ON ALL 3.6 PENTSTAR ENGINES! bunch of dumb FCA engineers
Hopefully they come out with the 2018 dodge journey 3.6 thermostat
Could that housing orient in the other direction for the Chrysler 200 vehicle and other front wheel drive vehicles?
Hey had a quick question, so basically i already have the aluminum crossover pipe and oil housing, and want to get the thermostat but what happens if it fails in the future? Are the thermostat replaceable or you would have to buy the aluminum thermostat all over again?
Hmmmm Wish they made this for my Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 2015 limited 3.6l. I hate plastic components! I got the slight oil leak from the oil cooler and about the replace that plastic POS. Would be nice to replace the thermostat while I am at it. I do have one quick question. When I drive up an incline, Ive gotten the jeep (Now it was an extremely hot 90 degree day both times) to where the engine temp hit 222 and climbing. I backed down, threw the heater one and got it controlled to 210 to 215 or so BUT that was a horrible experience. New coolant and everything in vehicle, no air bubbles in line, no codes. Had Jeep look at it, couldnt duplicate, said its a non issue. Im not happy with that as I am nervous going out of town with it. What do you think it could be? Any thoughts? Again, no codes.
Can mention the cost difference between the plastic vs aluminum parts?
would you say replacing the original parts of this engine with the aluminium put in make the engine more reliable?
One of the fingers retaining my stat broke off. I found stat, spring, and retainer sitting in my engine. Searched with a camera for the stray plastic piece, but nowhere to be found. Guess it will turn up one day.
So I am assuming Dorman doesn't have these on store shelves yet. Dealer says the Mopar part (Jeep JK) is on national backorder and they have customer vehicles waiting on them. Which non Mopar one do I go with if I cant wait? Dorman appears to have a plastic one available, do I give that a try, or park the thing until the Mopar ones come in at the dealer? P0128 by the way, coolant level is good, temp staying between 180 and 185, never gets hotter than that otherwise running and driving fine.
Hey I just got their new one for my 2019 promaster, (203 degree factory thermostat) and i want a lower thermostat TEMP like 180 or 192 degree here in arizona, but i dont want computer fault code. so can I do this with a MotoRad 416-192 or MotoRad 416-180 replacement.. thanks
So what is the correct part number for the 1500 3.6l ram 1500, for the hose to install on the driver side ?
Had the po128 code and replaced thermostat. could not get it to stop leaking from the bleeder screw so I just ordered this aluminum one in hopes I won't have the same problem.
Fingers crossed no other issues
Just put it in this morning and no coolant leaks yet 👍
Pentastar really is a good engine but man they really messed up by using plastic parts.
902-3035HP Aluminum Thermostat Housing can you mount it up side down for a jeep dont need the bleeder anyway ? All I need is for it to fit.
Do you know if there is a quality thermostat Non-Plastic assembly replacement for a 2014 Jeep JKU?
Will this part fit a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 3.6 liter engine?
Vehicle has a "G" in the vin number.
Thanks for the info! I'll be sure and replace those parts when it comes time to change out my 3.2's coolant, if they make it that far. Mopar coolant is supposed to last 100k miles isn't it? How does that coolant hold up in real life? Thanks again!
The 5 year does seem to break down sooner then 100k sometimes. I have seen alot of clogged Heatercore with 5 year/100k coolant
@@MotorCityMechanic Hey David, I'm a huge fan/follower of your channel, i learned a lot!
*** I have a question, I have a 2014 dodge grand caravan r/t 3.6L . My engine temp keeps going above normal up to about 231 degrees and drops back down to 215, and radiator fan keeps turning on/off less than every 20-30 seconds, "even from a cold start". Coolant is not low, no leaks, I'm confident there's no air in coolant because system haven't been touch since last year. Thermostat and the fan relay mounted on fan housing both was changed less than a year ago. Also I recently had a catalytic converter on "bank 1" replaced.
Do you have any recommendations???.... Thanks, appreciate your feedback
At O'Reily bought middle price thermostat for 2016 town and country van ,going need get ome part cheap thermostat is delayed open up needle goes up idleing even why'll driven
Is this part available yet for 3.6 Wranglers?
Hey, just wondering if you know it it will fit a 2011 Chrysler town and country ?
Could you make a video of how to remove the tensioner pulley from a Chrysler 200 2015 3.6? 🙏🙏
I will certainly keep it in mind
Hey Dave have a problem with a 2013 Chrysler 200 s was turning off supposed oil sensor was bad replaced oil cooler everything was fine for a couple of days , but is turning off occasionally replace the tipm fuse box and still with the problem it runs fine for some time and come back problem, any suggestions by the way the horn was getting turning on and off constantly occasionally , and horn not working, thanks
Sorry this is off topic have you seen a 2009 Chrysler with a 2.7L engine operate properly until it reached cruising speed, and then , it hiccup and set a pending code for P1128 and P1129. I change MAP , ECT and both up stream O2 sensors
I just replaced a plastic dorman one
If it’s plastic it’s going to fail eventually
It’s a $15 part and a 5 minute fix
And wouldn’t the thermostat fail before the housing?
👍👍 South Maine Auto
When is it available?
Is that better than plastic
Does it fit on a 3.6 in a Ram 1500?
Transmission pan with filter on the way..
This thermostat housing installs with BACKWARDS orientation though and thereby NOT compatible with longitudinal mounted engines such as my Wrangler. I hope Dorman will release one with the correct orientation.
Just installed one on a Dodge Charger….actually the same one you saw in the video. Your right about the wrangler….the alternator is in the way, it’s the only RWD that does use the same as the rest. They have multiple versions comings.
Could you install it upside down other 2014 dodge grand Caravan sxt 3.6l?
Nope. They will have a few different versions coming out soon to cover the rest of the vehicles. I was just lucky to get my hands on a few before they got released.
😳Its crazy how much plastic these manufacturers use, funny bc sometimes it seems the more expensive the car the more plastic there is🤦♂️
Hotel Papa
You from aviation or military?
Do you have an email I can send a question to sir?
Thanks in advance
Justin, Red Deer Ab.
Currently both alluminum part are unavailable ☹️
Received both from Rock Auto a couple of days ago. Just installed them today.
You put the housing on the wrong way. The pipe was pointing toward the radiator, you installed it with the pipe toward the rear of the car.
It points in different directions on different vehicles. Front wheel drive vehicles point towards the left side/towards the radiator while others like the one in the video point towards the right side of the engine. Depends on the vehicle and there are different part numbers for different housings because of this. Sorry to disagree but your not correct
I use to have your email. I have a vid to send you. Need info.
Car manufacturing should be sued to the tilt for charging so much for plastic and allowing banks to charge interest on top of it.
Your thermostat housing is not on a good direction on your new...original is on thermostat right side..and other on a.left side...😎
I hate my Pentajunk.
David
What is your email? If you take questions
