- Find out more: www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-ev.... Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and dancers of The Royal Ballet give a glimpse into rehearsals and discuss why Lewis Carroll's novel makes the perfect ballet.
Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland burst onto the stage in 2011 in an explosion of colour, stage magic and inventive, sophisticated choreography. Joby Talbot’s score combines contemporary soundworlds with sweeping melodies that gesture to ballet scores of the 19th century. Bob Crowley’s wildly imaginative, eye-popping designs draw on everything from puppetry to projections to make Wonderland wonderfully real.
Alice encounters a cast of extraordinary and instantly recognizable characters, from the highly strung Queen of Hearts - who performs a hilarious send-up of The Sleeping Beauty’s famous Rose Adage - to a playing card corps de ballet, a sinuous caterpillar and a tap-dancing Mad Hatter. But the ballet does not avoid the darker undercurrents of Lewis Carroll’s story: a nightmarish kitchen, an eerily disembodied Cheshire Cat and the unhinged tea party are all here in vivid detail. The delicious result shows The Royal Ballet at its best, bringing together world-class dance with enchanting family entertainment. - Zábava

Alice's technique is flawless, and the choreography is awesome.
I don't know much about ballet except from hours and hours and hours of watching and comparing techniques and personal styles, but she seems to be technically really good and at the same time not seem as "stiff" or held back as some become, when focusing so much on technique and "clean" moves, the whole act gets kind of rigid and one seems to rely more on brain than on her / his feet. But maybe that's partially if a dancer is still a - even just a bit - insecure, sort of checking her-/ himself secretly to be technically perfect . She doesn't need to check herself, so she can focus more on acting and getting into the character and sort of let herself go, realky getting into the emotions and being taken by the story, but still not taking that as an excuse to be sloppy on details and a correct performance.
I know , Lauren is amazing!!
I was fortunate enough to see this ballet in the orchestra seats and it was so whimsical! I hope to see it again.
Lucky you.so jeaolus
it was a dream come true that this story was turned into this fantastic ballet.
I love that you can see the little spin and kick that the Mad Hatter and March Hare do in this video. In the official video for that scene, they cut away to Alice during that part, but it's so fun to see!
Am I the only person who when Steven said everybody loves a fantasy went "no everybody loves a Steven McRae" 😂😂❤️
I want to see this so bad!!
Cheshire Cat sammmmmmmme
Ik this is like two years later and you might have seen it already but you can rent it for 5 dollars on amazon.
*I want to see this on 69 likes forever!!*
Man if I lived in the UK
*You’d see coppas chasing people from knicking frozen peas from iceland, chavs walking round with a bottle of Jack Daniels. And 12 year old boys going around swearing*
You can buy a dvd from the Royal Ballet
Lauren is so darn beautiful!
I saw this when it was playing at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen. Lovely show! (And the rabbit was kinda hot)
2:09 is that an untucked ribbon?! $50 fine
Haley A let’s hope that it came out during the performance even though that is really unlikely.I don’t want to believe a professional made such an amateur mistake
Why? Ballet noob here
Rijn my teachers who were professional dancers with the New York City Ballet told me that whenever you had a hair, costume, or pointe shoe malfunction you had to pay a fee. I don’t know if this is still a thing, or used in ever company, but I made a little “joke” 😂 either way it is kinda unprofessional. Normally dancers would sew in their ribbons to prevent them from coming out.
Rijn it’s unprofessional were taught from the time we go en pointe to tuck them in
Watched the ballet; it came out during her performance. It was fine before
Most amazing ballet ever. Nothing else compares. I am so glad I bought tickets and went to see this. Such an incredible experience and an impeccable ballet.
YESS THIS IS MY FAVORITE BALLET
Saw this in a ballet class...Delightful!
英語もバレエも何も分からないけど、素敵なアリスだと感じる。
なんて可愛くて不思議な世界観だろう。
一つ一つのデザインが魅力的でもっと早く知りたかった。
so nice!!!!!!
I just love the details about everything.
I want to see this on live so badly
I will, unfortunately, never have the privilege to see this ballet at The Royal Opera House. I haven't seen a ballet in 10 years. When I was just 7. I need a job. I'll see one, at most, in 10 years hopefully.
Sometimes, there are live streams of ballets (eg from the Bolshoi Ballet or the Royal Opera House) to cinemas all over the world. I think tickets for those are a bit cheaper, maybe you can watch one there? Best wishes!
Now is part of the 2024/2025 season !
Wow Chris wheel don and composer are just brilliant
This is absolutely beautiful
aloce is the best stage by far, i mean the props and everything just wooowww
BEAUTIFUL !!!! , I LOVE IT !!!!
2:23 Steven McRae's rehearsal tights are pretty provocative. Plus, there's a hole in the inner thigh. So McRae is just getting into character?
There are holes on both legs. Not sure if that is on purpose or if stuff like that just happens when you're doing ballet and training like crazy?
He has pants on underneath, they’re just coincidentally a pink flesh color haha. I think they’re his favorite warm up pants so they’ve gotten him through many rehearsals!
Come to Barcelona pleaseee ♥️♥️♥️
I really want to see this ballet now...
this need be a movie
is so perfect¡¡¡
Is this on DVD? If not, will it ever be available on DVD?
www.amazon.com/Alices-Adventures-Wonderland-Lauren-Cuthbertson/dp/B005LVEFTA Also it's available on iTunes.
You are AMAZING! Thank you tons!!
Enjoy. I've watched it over and over. Amazing ballet. :)
Thank you. I couldn't wait for the DVD, so I just purchased the digital version on Amazon! I'm watching it as I type this (well, it's paused while I'm typing, but you understand what I mean...). Anyway, greatly appreciate your help!
I have just requested DVD from my library system.
Alice in stage looks so much younger rather then in rehearsal
Eu queria assistir o espetáculo completo onde posso achar?
And the whole thing will be streaming when
I’m so happy the guy who made Alice and wonder land is my great great uncle and I know no one will ever believe it when I say it sigh ;( but I’m really happy to have a famous person in my blood line

2024/2025 season!!!
i want to see this ballet so bad
Wasnt sarah lamb alice??
Lauren Cuthbertson originated the role
I've been mad for years. I'm completely fine.
Talented people.
How did they disappear down the hole??
I believe the case was set over a trapdoor.
DANG IT! I don't live anywhere near The Royal Ballet.
There you are, the perfect Alice, or Clara or???' Lauren Cuthbertson, Royal Ballet release her at your peril!
Just saw this on Marquee TV, and my first thought was that Margot Fonteyn casts a long shadow over the Royal Ballet, even now. Renowned as much for her mime ability as for her dancing, the acting demands of the innocent Alice make the role seem like something Frederick Ashton would have choreographed for her, back in the 1930s. And Lauren Cuthbertson had to "channel" all of that, with enormous stamina, because she's hardly ever offstage!
I had tickets to the Hong Kong ballet's Alice in wonderland and then they couldn't preform bc of covid
What happened to Sarah Lamb?
She was for the first run of the show I think
They have different casts for different nights
jonasmaneis1966
she looks way too old to be alice
The director had a hard time finding a 7 year-old who could dance the part.
In this ballet, Alice is supposed to be a young teen of 13/14 years. She's slowly getting interested in the adult world and falling in love with Jack, the Knave of Hearts. If she were seven in this there obviously wouldn't be a love story.
