Planning on doing our first coffered ceilings in a little 1920 bungalow we just purchased. This video was so insanely helpful! Thank good ness our ceilings are only 10ft and we have two people. Your channel is awesome!
@@TMPK Couple Questions for you. When you are putting the 1x6 up against the ceiling, if the ceiling isn't true wont your coffered end up wavy ? Also if you aren't putting blocks onto your 8 x 16s how do you get your reveal to be the same all the way around. Thanks.
@@tsmith1729 yes, it can end up wavy. But this is new construction and it’s pretty flat up there. You can drop it down a half inch and level the whole thing if you want. You could block it, but after 15 + years, just eyeballing the reveal is good enough at 12 ft up in the air. I like to think I have laser eyes at this point 🤩
I came across this video while looking to do a renter-friendly project like this in my new apartment... didn’t expect to be jamming to a construction video lol. To the video production crew: I salute you! This is 🔥🔥🔥!! The music selections, editing... it’s probably one of the best I’ve seen!

Super fun video and workmanship. That house looks to have amazing trim work all throughout. I’d love to see that home after all the trim has been painted. Thx for taking the time to make this awesome video 👍
Thank you! I’ve thought about posting a little tour of the finished house after I make a video of something in that house. Then people could point out to me what they want me to make a new video about 😂
Damn, looks super nice. You definitely have some great skills. I also enjoyed your edit. It's fun and not uptight or serious. I'd love to see the final look after it's painted and see if that bead board lines pop out. They are kinda lost in the grain without paint. I'm sure you could hawk those monster TMPK pencils in your future merch store (ha ha).
Great video! I'm a 71-year old grandma and a friend who's in her 40s is going to help me with all of my crown moulding and trim in my home. I've always wanted a coffered ceiling and the way you did it looks doable. So that's now on my To Do List as well! Thanks so much. -- Only thing I did so I could watch the video all the way through was to mute the music - and I'd turn it back on when I saw you were saying something. Ha.
Margaret D haha thanks! Yeah the music isn’t for everyone, but I have music editing background so a lot of my video edits are based around the audio. I’m not sure if I can do it another way lol good luck with your coffer!
Margaret, I certainly appreciate your spirit and initiative but please consider renting portable scaffolding for your project. It's a lot harder (but not impossible) to fall off of scaffolding than a ladder. Also, the size of the molding configuration must be adjusted based upon ceiling height. If you only have 8' ceilings your moldings should be about 1/2 as big as he installed. Scale is important when selecting moldings. Good luck and be safe!
My husband just forwarded me your channel and I immediately subscribed! Loved your genuine energy & relatability! I’m excited to watch you and your channel grow!
I'm loving the content man! I'm planning on tackling my first coffered ceiling. But I have a question, how do you determine the right depth or thickness. Is it according to ceiling height or is there a standard measurement to these coffered ceilings? Thanks
Thanks! There’s no right or wrong. If it’s 8 foot I’d do a flat coffered or 1x4 drop, with whatever width you want. 9ft 1x6 drop, 10 ft and up, 1x6 or 1x8 🤷♂️ just think about what the crown’s drop you choose also.
Snap! Hokey Corn! You Absolutely killed it! I loved it! Please keep it up. This was the best tube I’ve seen in a long time. BEAUTIFUL, ORIGINAL WORK & Styling!!!

Thanks for the kind words! Check out my “how to- Flat Coffered Ceiling” video. I get a little more in depth with crown mold at the end of that video. Maybe it will help.
Sorry, just noticed I never replied! Yeah, you should just choose a crown that is going to fit. I like the crown better in some of my other coffered videos where it’s much smaller than this one.
I have maybe a 1% chance of actually watching an entire CZcams video. You made it into that 1%. Awesome video, great music, and I learned something new.
Jake D That’s probably true for a lot of people including myself. 1% chance. So that’s the highest complement I can get! Thanks bro! I always spend a lot of time choosing whatever copyright-free song I can find. I’m getting comments about how the music ruins it but every video I edit starts with the music. It’s the most important part to me
You, sir are a true inspiration. I watched this for the first time 2 or so yrs ago and that's when I decided I was going to try this. I don't know if you remember, but I had asked you about doing this on an 18-ft ceiling. I finally got around to doing it. It was tough and probably should've used scaffolding vs a huge ladder, but I used your process...made a couple small edits to our liking and did it all on my own! It looks fantastic!! I had to share it with you: czcams.com/video/tvjZUy3oshA/video.html
After watching you install your "ledger" board, I now see the genius of FINISH CARPENTRY TV hanging this board with toggle bolts. It makes it easier and you're able to fine tune position before driving in all the framing nails. I like your lighter weight framing though. FC TV's framing was too much 2x material IMO. Your framing makes wiring runs too.
If you are not using MDF FCTVs method is much better at stopping movement in the trim boards. I would never trust nails on anything that is attached to the ceiling. I've seen too many things fall from the nail getting pushed out as the building takes on humidity over the years to ever trust a nail to win vs gravity.
I first saw this video last year and remembered it after failing to get some crown molding corners right and ended up wasting lots of material. That 35.3/30 bit was a LIFESAVER!!!
Great job on the ceiling! You made it look super easy with one person, piece of cake if ya actually had a helper! And those EDITING skills! Very impressive!
