    As a fellow solo trim carpenter for many years, I get a kick out of seeing that others faced with the same challenges come up with many of the same strategies. Your ability to organize and catalog your processes in these videos is a tremendous gift to the trade. I think it would be a win-win for you and for your followers if you would compile your content into a trim carpentry DVD series, as Gary Katz has done with his door hanger book and DVD. I know I would buy such DVD's as valuable tools for training my apprentices.

      Michael, as a pro you are, did Insider Carpentry nail boards directly into drywall or was his 10 inch wide boards nailed at the precise studs behind it? I asked this question, but he didn't respond.

    • @michael.schuler
      @michael.schuler Před rokem

      @@lostinmyspace4910 You should nail into studs. If unavailable, adhesive can be used in some cases, provided you can come up with means of temporary clamping.

      I have a ceiling just like this, done in finish grade oak. The weight of this structure is huge. There is no way screws in drywall could hold it. Well, maybe if it was made with 1/4" material....but I still doubt it.

    Hey Spence, I seriously just want to say thank you for sharing your hard-earned knowledge with your audience. I recently met a young man that was wanting to learn more about carpentry, and I know that I can safely recommend your videos. It’s very rare that I watch a CZcams guy, and I know for sure that that person loves Jesus. You’re having a genuine impact on the world, and only God will know how many mouths you feed with the knowledge you share. I hate sharing secrets with people who do the same work as me, but I know that both gifts and testimonies are meant to be shared. God bless you brother

    ive
    I've watched a few American carpenters showing their skills. Coming from Australia YOU are a level above these other guys. I enjoy wood work as a hobby, to see the professionalism you go about your craft, is inspiring. One of the many ideas you showed was a simple corner brace to hold up boards when working by yourself. It will help me do my ceiling sheets by myself, just a simple brace across the ceiling, then slide one end of the sheet in to hold it while I push up the other end with a T bracket. That to me was gold. I'm 75 doing reframing of a two storey house due to white ants by myself. Have little trust in tradesmen over here. I wish you every success. Thanks again, I'll revisit your channel regularly.

    In the coffered ceiling project, when nailing the 10 inch boards to the wall, were you aimimg for the studs, or going directly into the drywall? It seems to me, the studs is the only way to assure no sagging and holding all the weight of the entire system. We need to not forget to give Spence a THUMBS UP. These videos take a long to to put together, set up, and explain, so the least we can do iis leave him a THUMBS UP in exchange for all this wonderful inspiring knowledge. Whether you do the job yourself, or hire a pro carpenter, we derive a lot of knowledge from these videos. THUMBS UP!!!
