Formula One's long-awaited formal rejection of Andretti and General Motors' new entry has arrived, along with its explanation, which is detailed but not especially convincing. And Andretti has responded to it as well. Could they be out to take revenge on F1?
Andretti has always had a significant struggle in passing the F1 obstacle, even getting FIA clearance in late 2023, because the commercial rights holder and current teams are reluctant to welcome an 11th team. And now we know it's failed, at least for now. - Zábava
I'm not even American, but the thing that drives me insane is that not a single person had any idea who Gene Haas is yet that's no problem at all with them running a team. Andretti is arguably the most recognizable racing name in America and that is a problem?! This has made zero sense.
The American fans know who Gene Haas is, via the very competitive Stewart-Haas Racing in NASCAR. His mobile advertising signs generate more business profit than it costs to run the F1 team, so he's happy.
The entry of Haas F1 Team expanded the field from 10 teams to 11 in 2016, so that's a precedent.
Considering how keen FOM is to promote their business in USA, I can only think that Andretti's exclusion is a temporary publicity stunt. Perhaps 12 months from now ...
HAAS is bigger name than Andretti unless your over 55 and watch f1
@@brianvogt8125And before that there was the Newman-Hass racing team.
@@leprechaun50 What's the relevance of Newman-Haas to Gene Haas?
Error 404: bombshell not found
The bombshell was at the very end: possibly buying HAAS. keeps it at 10 teams while allowing him to work on a manufacturers (i don't like the word "works") car for 2028
Hardly a bombshell, the pundits have been talking about Andretti’s quickest path was to buy another team and have mentioned Haas previously.

I mean how else do you expect the to drum up views in the off season? Lol
F1 is complaining a lot that there are not enough seats availlable for the young new drivers.. then a team which would bring 2 more seats comes along and they say no...
Ridicilious.
They are not complaining about the number of seats. Infact adding two more cars makes some pitlanes really tight.
And the terms of entering the sport as a new team are well known and ridiculous expensive, to keept Ford, Porsche, Honda, Audi, Aston Martin at bay or let them buy existing teams.
@@MrHaggyybs. I don’t see INDYCAR complaining about the size of the field and the pit lane ? F1 is just soft
@@seanwoodson1143 When did INDYCAR race in Monaco, Hockenheim, Baku, Azerbaijan, Las Vegas? It's obviously much easier if you limit yourself to a view big circuits.
@@MrHaggyy F1 had 12 teams before and they raced on the same tracks. So that's a red herring.
No f1 are not complaining that there are not enough seats !
And the kicker is Red Bull are allowed 2 teams,,,,,,,,,,
and that 2nd team has finished in the bottom half of the standings for at least 12 straight seasons , but they think Andretti wouldn't be competitive.
But then again, on the flipside, formidable countries, like; China, India, Japan (despite signing engines over, to a fewEnglish teams), are not in Formula One, AT ALL and if they want to enter, they've still got a mountain to climb. Andretti will get in! Eventually!!!
Of course Red Bull are allowed 2 teams. They rescued the Minardi team by buying it at a time when Formula One needed to keep the numbers up. Even if there were a "relegation zone" (like in soccer), RB Formula One has not consistently been in it, so there's no basis for dispatching them. In hindsight, it looks like Michael Andretti's desire to purchase a team has come a few years too late.
If F-1 doesn't permit new teams and quality engine manufacturers to enter & compete, how can F-1 say it's truly a competitive field of the world's finest engine manufacturers?
exactly.
Andretti needs to buy a team.
What I don't get it, Liberty Media which owns F1 is an American company. We hear all the time how they are wanting to get more American viewership (hence Vegas) and yet they deny the one brand that Americans know.
F1 needs 12 teams and 2 tyre suppliers for a tyre war!

Sounds like F1 is playing games again. Becoming common.
When did they STOP playing games?
F1 needs more teams, excluding a team that’s willing to compete and has funding is ridiculous.
It's our ball and we decide who gets to play with it ... which is total horse shit. :(
Just wanna point out that the guy you keep putting on screen whenever you refer to "F1" is not the head of F1. He's Muhammed Bin Sulayem, the head of the FIA. The FIA approved Andretti's bid. It was an American commercial entity who ultimately turned down Andretti. F1 is owned by Liberty Media, an American company which has next to nothing to do with Bin Sulayem or the FIA.
Your right. It wasn't the FIA that has put a stop to Andretti's bid but Liberty Media.
Although f
It is F1 and the majority of the teams.... And most of the time I saw Muhammad and Stefano followed by Stefano (though I was reading)
And looking up now while replying to this the 4 time I heard "f1" 3 times was Muhammad and once was Muhammad and Stefano followed by Stefano again 😂🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Pmsl then I hit enter - heard FOM looked up and just saw Stefano 😂😂😂
@@hollybrooke3850can I get you a sedative?
I have heard that the Formula One Group is in shaky legal grounds excluding Andretti. Andretti could sue to be admitted to the club but he would have to do that carefully as forcing is way into the "club" would come with consequences. It would be interesting to see what specific rights the Concorde Agreement grants the Formula One Group.
Franchise laws in the USA are pretty bullet proof I don't see this being the case.
"not of commercial value"....how many US Grand Prix are there? what would it do to ticket sales to have a US team that was competitive (And dont think for a second GM and andretti wouldnt be)
If f1 was ultimately going to reject any and all applicants, why even offer up the possibility of adding any more teams....
f1 is very stagnant , i think the inclusion of andretti and cadillac could have spiced things up a little
So where was the bombshell?
It was a dud.
@@etoineschrdlu9382 obviously! Lol
How could you miss it? It was buying the Haas team.
@@lanpartyanimal5215 Yeah, right, they said that MAYBE Andretti would buy the Haas Team. Speculation is not a bombshell. And then said that neither Andretti or Haas was saying anything. True that neither said no, which means their lawyers MIGHT BE talking. This was reporting a vacuum of information.
Still coming!😅😅
Don’t blame F1, blame Liberty Media Corp. an American owned company.
run by a European, and this decision was made by that European- Domenicalli
Liberty is F1 now, that is the point. Was it somehow better in the 1980s, with the French doofuss making the decisions and getting people killed?
It honestly sounds like F1 is afraid that Andretti will be too competitive and possibly dominate the established teams/brands. There are several non competitive teams who are under funded and we are always reading stories about their financial hardships and in the past decade have seen teams go bankrupt. Andretti has deep pockets, Cadillac has deep pockets, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes are scared. F1 is protecting them.
'Competitiveness Issues' - Hass: Hold my beer
How do we stop them racing in theUSA stop these greedy bastards
I agree. Miami, Austin & Las Vegas are good money makers for the FIA and F1 Teams, yet there are no American drivers-almost like taxation without representation! This could be dangerous. Make Andretti - Cadillac a reality!
Ah, is the little child upset?
Well, that would be political, tax-exempt groups, in bed with local government crooks, with support from the crooked news industry. Do you want more of that?
A big mistake on F1 not excepting Andretti and GM onto the grid. Very sad. We need more works teams.
Andretti should race in Indycar and F1
I would have loved to see Andretti on the grid!
Andretti/Hass couldn't hurt HAAS, only help IMO. I am ok with 10 teams, soooo Andretti/HAAS works for me. Maybe Andretti can get the HAAS team in the hunt on race days!
Maybe. But HAAS isn't in it to win it. It is just a platform for his business. If he finishes above last place, then it is a bonus.
At this point, Gene Haas could pretty much name his price and Michael Andretti would happily buy the team outright to get on the grid. It would be a win/win for both parties as Gene would have made a market for his CNC machines and sold his team for a profit, and Andretti would have a spot on the grid, much to the chagrin of pretty much everyone in F1. Michael's dug in like a tick so far... this isn't over.
Williams is competitive? HAAS is Competitive? Alpha Terr is competitive...give me a break😢
I think Andretti is going to get in some way, and F1 will pay on that day. Until then, America needs to boycott drive to survive and anything f1 related.
Why?
You do realize f1 is currently owned by liberty media right? And two teams are american owned already them being Haas and Williams.. its not like america isn't pandered already. I wanted to see Andretti in here but its not like there isn't any american team already.
@davidvalencia129 Haas is also in Nascar I wish Andretti was as well. Andretti is a name recognized by racing the world over and for those elite people to say they brought no recognition is a slap in the face of racing royalty.
Let's be honest here, F1 did absolutely marvelously without anything to do with the USA. However with the involvement of Liberty Media, a USA entity, the whole show has just gone to shit.
So please boycott it, please. We might get actually get something decent again.
Lol 😂😂😂
F1: We created a series of unreasonable hoops for Andretti to jump through in order to discourage them but they failed to jump through one of them so we have rejected the bid we were never going to accept anyway, despite leading him on.
Hasn't Brad Pitt been using empty garages to film his new movie on race weekends?
Where is the bombshell?
Mentions "F1" and shows image of "FIA" head. MBS is not responsible for FOM decisions.
FON should have accepted the Andretti entry. Andretti can definitely add value to F1 for sure. The current teams are very short sighted and just in the sport for the Money-very short sighted. Hopefully that can buy the Haas Team. They need to let them in! Andretti is a much bigger name than Haas ever will be!
The Andretti name would have brought even more interest to F1 racing. A tire war would be really stupid, one tire make would always have an advantage.
It is the same as it has always been.
If you are in the club you don't want new members in the club because it will dilute.
At that is the real reason. Money, dilution of the pot. Those in the club think they will get less if Andretti is let in.
Oh, and revenge. There are still people who hold a grudge against Mario.
Most certainly believe Andretti should be on the grid for 26’
If the f1 are so concerned about competitiveness, shouldn't there only be 1 redbull team? That's a spot for a team that ~could~ be trying to win races.
I think they should force RB team to be sold, and then Andretti can bid in what would be a auction for the team. yes no one should own two teams in the sport.
Red Bull were begged to Buy Minardi which is why they ran the 2nd team as a separate unit. That was not very competitive so it should improve racing if both teams share some parts and are better to watch. After all Haas is basically a poor Ferrari and designed by an outside firm as well. FIA states there is room for twelve teams. Liberty should increase the funding to the teams to compensate them but they want the profits, not good racing. They had enough cash to give Las Vegas £500 million to build the pits so not exactly hard up.@@bomberwizz
Haas isn't competitive. Fact. F1 should introduce some method to increase competitiveness with potential external competitors.
Andretti has a great Antitrust lawsuit case
It won't help them to a 2025 entry though.Lawsuits take a lot of time.
@@user-hm5nn9pk8n I don't think 2025 was ever considered. 2026 was for the official entry.
@@stephenremillard9462 As it is mentioned in FOM's response as an argument against Andretti it was.
In what countries court? They said no, sue for hurt feelings?
@@user-hm5nn9pk8n, I think Andretti themselves mentioned that they were not aiming for 2025 due to the approval delays and more importantly about the rule change. Yes they are novice but I don't think they are stupid enough to develop 2 completely different cars in 2 years. I think the original application was vague on the actual entry date.
If I were them I would still aim for the 2026 season (if they think they still have a chance to get in) and propose something financial to sweeten the deal, instead of taking FOM proposal for 2028. As by then, the Concord agreement will most probably change and the entry fees will probably quadruple (or even more) making it unreasonable. At this point they might as well buy an existing team.
No new news here
Why did Andretti not buy Manor in the past just $ 80 - 100 price range
The last few seconds of your video...
Andretti was willing to fork over the best part of $1bn to join the grid, and I'm sure Gene Haas would sell for less than half of that.
The FOM comments about Andretti are stupid
Andretti are going to take them to court over this
Waiting for Cadillac and Porsche. Ik Caddy was gonna go with Andretti and Porsche had a greedy offer thatcford grabbed for RB in 2026.
Let's face facts--F1 (owners and management) does not want to divide a 10-piece pie 11 ways. All the rest is smoke screen.
Liberty media should be sued for failing to allow new teams because this f1 sport is not competitive.
In what countries court?
As the 20's continue, F1 continues to disappoint me month by month. I can agree with the inability to house 11 teams at tracks IF it were true. The rest of their "arguments" are a sign of fear and worry about having Andretti in the mix. The arrogance to say "F1 would bring value to the Andretti brand, rather than the other way around". F1 and the Andretti name are nearly synonymous with anyone over the age of 30
They had 26 cars at one time. The precedent is there for more than 10 teams.
So the Andretti name and general motors have a racing background longer than F1 itself. And Haas has only been slightly competitive it's first year. The last 2 year's they've been 8th and 10thout of 10 teams
I think they have made an error in prventing Andretti for 1 main reason. F1 wanted to enter the American market for their benefit and the first full on American team gets blocked!!!
Could FOM be doing this to show their opposition to Sulayem and the FIA.!
Historically Andretti - Cadillac - GM have proved that they only race for wins in motor sport, so why is the FIA deliberately trying to block this team??
Andretti Cadillac should be allowed to shake up the F1 racing on track.
If an energy manufacturing company, with no vehicle production background, can develop an F1 car that has already won multiple WDC & WCC's,.
Imagine how much one of the largest Global vehicle manufacturer, with a proven racing track record, could bring to increase Global interest in F1 while pushing the limits to win WDC & WCC tittles!!!!!
I would buy a Cadillac here in South Australia. I you can get one. Just saying. Totally agree with 12 teams two tyre suppliers.
Like in the past!
They should have let Andretti in and I hope they buy Hass!
I grew up Watching Mario racing and his passion for the sport. Michael came and showed the same desire for the sport taking their name to a different level always showing the passion, maybe with a different vision but always focusing in making it better. F1 basically insulted them.
I love F1 but they need to be taught a lesson and we here in America should boycott F1.
American fans should boycott every F1 race in the U.S. and Canada. F1 management will rue the day they declined Andretti's application.
This is just a stall by FOM. I think they are hoping that one of 2 things happens. 1) The delay will be long enough that a new Concorde agreement will happen a there will be an even higher dilution fee or 2) GM will lose interest and back out. Pretty slimy in my opinion.
Seem to me that the existing teams don't want to share the money cake, that is the big issue.
This decision just shows how depending on who is head of FOM that arrogance and probably pressure from teams already F1 leaders wouldn't want a new team joining. I believe this is the main issue also that quite a few of the FOM are blatantly looking for more filled pockets! SHAME ON THEM!!
Is it me, or does it always seem that F1’s decisions rarely go America’s way?
The plainly clear way for Andretti to field a team is to purchase HAAS as the sport continues to grow the current teams and the commercial management have no reason to add extra teams or should we say franchise holders. I'm sure Gene is rubbing his hands together after the decision from FOM as his franchise has just increase in value
They are afraid of GM and Andretti
They're afraid of Andretti motorsports. Especially with Cadillac engines.
FOM..... it's all about the $$$$$! Screw the sport. If they truly cared about it, they would welcome Andretti. If they truly meant the garbage they spewed out, they would have to cancel half of the team's in their "club" as they are obviously not competitive to start with.
Try putting an old cosworth engine in the caddy
And the BOMSHELL was ?
Why not let them in in 2026 if the new car is specs is such a big deal. They just want to keep the cash to themselves. Very greedy and short sighted.
I have watched generations of Andretti's races, even here in Australia, and I believe they should have been granted a start, Andretti has shown their love and professionalism for motor racing for generations, but I think in this case F1 got it wrong, and if Micheal Andretti wants to start a petition to help his cause I will sign it.
It's all about money. The 11th place team gets zero guaranteed money. Means that teams like Haas, Williams, and Alfa Romeo might not get anything.
Andretti/Haas Cadillac team for 2025-2027 then Andretti/Cadillac for 2028 and beyond.
Being Competitive in F1's mind has nothing to do with racing. Being Competitive in their eyes has everything to do with how well they think Andretti can pull in sponsorship $$$$$ thus increasing the pool of money that is available to be split. In this way F1 may be correct. We as race fans do not really care if AMG Mercedes has Crowdstrike on their car but F1 does.
I would like to hear from Andretti what sponsorship package they put together for the F1 effort and how that compares to the other teams that are currently in F1. I hope they make it. Perhaps an Andretti/Penske/Ganassi partnership would have made more sense in these terms but in terms of racing there would be too many cooks in the kitchen for this to work.
They already back by Cadillac are death General Motors is backing them! You honestly think they can’t pick up associate sponsors? They already have slew of sponsors on hand do they have relationships with do they not?
No bombshell?!
The idea that they knew certain facilities would not fit an 11th team shows they didn't want an 11th team all along. that's not new information. They knew that on day one and chose not to make it an issue.
how many race fans have noticed yet that the first 2 races are to happen on the Saturday
What?
I wouldn't say the decision comes across as dumb or disrespectful. It comes cross as dumb and disrespectful!
The term "competitive" seems very dubious in its use from FOM/F1. Like what do they mean by that? Is beating the worst F1 team on the grid considered "competitive".
While I believe Andretti should be in F1 I also believe 2025 is too quick for them to join. Rules changes in 2026 for the cars are coming so why not shoot for 2027-2028.
The reasoning behind why they can't join the grid are unjustified.
FOM is short sighted, I am 100% behind Andretti Cadillac F1, they should be on the grid...
When Homer wanted to enter a treehouse club, a boy said that they were no Homers allowed, and then Homer points out that they let in Homer Glumpet. It was then explained that there couldn't be more than one Homer in the club because it was a No-Homers Club.
Foam should have accepted Andretti for sure
"We were not able to identify any material expected positive effect on CRH financial results, as a key indicator of the pure commercial value of the championship"
This is exactly why I personally have given up on F1. This is not an actual sport or a real racing series at all. F1 has become a show. And not even a good one.
Question: what would F1 think if the US tracks back Andretti. And just say no to F1 as they have done in previous years.
Meantime, Gene Haas announces, they expect to finish last in 2024!
Sounds like F1 is discriminating against the Andretti’s, F1 seem like they are afraid of competition. I for one would watch more if they allowed American drivers in the sport
Let Andretti buy the second RB team, and make it competitive!
Selling an f1 team now wouldnt make sense. Unless theyre bankrupt, which i dont see happening given the media money in f1 now.
Its all about the prize money split pure and simple. Unless liberty media want to pay more out to negate the extra split the teams will boycott it.
Gene Haas said it himself, in 8 years they have not progressed, Andretti is the best name to represent the US,
For the FOM it's a money matter. It has nothing to do with Andretti. Andretti is capable of building a competitive F1 car.
Buy the Haas team and bring in a different tire supplier, that would make it interesting
What Andretti racing sold Hass motorsports their chassis design. And became a supplier in the sport. Then they could get their experience and fully develop a chassis and cadillac could greenlight development of their engine for the now Hass racing team?
Rules state a team MUST build it's own chassis this would be considered a customer chassis
@@XA351GT yes but Hass doesn't build their chassis Ferrari builds it. So what is the difference really. And if they partnered up. It would be a team chassis.
I think you meant to say Dalara builds Haas chassis based on Haas engineers designs@@donaldgavigan9376
I would say, there is 1 very simple reason above them all: money - 11 teams means less money for each team.
No F1 Team made money until liberty media took over, now they show their wall street ambitions...
And their reasons are hillarious, just one example for knowledge transfer: Red Bull (2 Teams allowed for them??) developes their own engine for 2026 while using Honda until then...no problem there?? And how competitive is Renault/Alpine, Williams and Sauber?
With that statement they made a big mistake for the future - and a massive disappointment for all motorsport fans
F1 simply is blocking Andretti. Everything is just excuses to do so. Some of their grounds are borderline childish.
I've grown to love F1 racing for the past few years, but if Andretti isn't allowed into F1, forget about me spending any more time or my money on F1 racing. Andretti has proven for years that they are an elite racing organization and should be allowed in to F1. We, American racing fans are taking this snub personally, and that's not good for the future of F1 in America.
This is unbelievably disappointing to many Motorsport fans worldwide.
I, for one, view the F1 organization and teams differently now and see them as anti-American.
There wasn't a single point the FIA made in their response to Andretti Cadillac Motorsports that made sense whatsoever. It actually exposes the FIA / F1 for what they really are.
The statement they made saying that Andretti Cadillac Motorsports wouldn't add value to F1 that it would be the other way around? The name Andretti in motorsports doesn't need F1. That I can promise you...
Andretti-Cadi buying HAAS would be a good move, but I would rather see them as a +1 instead.
Why should Red bull be allowed to have two teams . This prevents any other teams to join what is now a closed club . When f1 went to Indy cars ( Jim Clarke ) and wiped the flooor of the rest of the grid in a Lotus f1 car . They didn’t cry foul . This situation is becoming a milestone round F1 s neck . Force Red Bull to sell its satellite team now! It is not needed or is not really competitive and seems to me , just making up the numbers and blocking any other team a chance . All sportspeople have to start from scratch and work their way up so why not F1 teams .
Athletes train for years , my granddaughter is a swimmer , at 11 yrs old she is looking at competing in the Olympics . Today she is the fastest backstroke swimmer in the UK at 11 ! ! !
Sir, It makes no sense to keep Andretti out of F1, they are more important in racing than the people in F1 who are making these silly decesions , ANDRETTI was in racing before some of the people running F1 were born.
It could all be politics since FORD owns part of Red Bull, I believe. Definitely would be nice to see Andretti come in to F1.
I think other than COTA no additional F1 races should be allowed in the U.S. That wouldn't hurt Miami or Vegas as they are 2 destinations without F1 and any new races being proposed...well...you can't miss what you never had. Let's see how fast a concerted effort to "boycott" in the U.S. would impact ways of thinking in the little boys club.
In one word "Unbelievable 😂"
Are Andretti and Zak Brown separated at birth? 😂😂
