  • Hey gang, the Onkyo TX-RZ50 may be hard to get but don't worry. The brand new 2022 Denon AVR-X3800H is just as good with the same features and available today. Currently, the Denon AVR-X3800H is my #1 prefered replacement for the missing Onkyo!
    BUY IT NOW: Denon AVR-X3800H - amzn.to/3SMVLY0
    Onkyo TX-RZ50: amzn.to/3oayh20
Or go with an identical alternative with the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX505 here: amzn.to/3tZYtzQ
Join me, tears and all, as I replace my Denon AVR-X4400H with a new Onkyo TX RZ50 Dirac 9 channel AVR, poke around in the menus and set it up for some sound tests. SPOILER: This is a fantastic AVR! I wish I could provide a link to it but NO ONE has it for sale yet.
    WARNING... *NOT A TECHNICAL REVIEW*
My Dedicated Home Theater and Media Rooms are both fully equipped with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D Sound while the Media Room has Dolby Vision and the Home Theater is HDR10 due to the projector limitations.

from looking at your setup and the issues you had playing different file formats and studdering playing back an audio file. could be one or a combination of two problems. one is your ethernet connection. and the second possibility is a bad HDMI wire. or incompatible HDMI signal. change your refresh rate both on the TV and in the Onkyo to 8k upscaling. (some HDMI wires say 8k on them, but they can barely play 1080p clearly. try using the same type of HDMI wires. (you don't need fancy wires) KabelDirekt 4k/8k wires will do fine.
may I ask which Denon receiver you have there? and what made you choose the RZ50 over the Denon?

I've spent a couple of months now researching and soaking in mass amounts of info so I can make informed decisions. I'm not really a gamer but my kids(12 & 17) are, so I'd like to not be neutered in the future if possible. I keep coming back to Denon x3700/4700 as what will work best for my needs, with the assumption that I can always run our xbox/ps through my TV's hdmi 2.1 port without any sacrifices and avoid the external hdmi switcher that Denon/Marantz can provide as a fix upon request. Am I correct in that, or am I going to create limitations in the future for myself? Sorry for the long question ❓👍

@@av_rob79 Will do! I’m new to it all, too. But just a thing of note with the RZ50….if doing a 7.x.4, you MUST power the rear surrounds with an external amp (from what I understand). @MancaveCentral1  Před 2 lety +1

I don't have a good answer for you. What I know is the Onkyo offers 11 channels of processing with only 9 channels of power with the expectation of the customer adding an additional 2 channel amp to get those last two height speakers going. With that logic, I would assume the AVR allows the same flexibility on the other channels but without having any external amps to test with I can't say for certain. I can't believe that the entire 11 channels of pre-amps are not receiving a signal in which to power however you want.

Maybe I don't understand your question. You physically connect the external amp into what pre-out channel you desire. That's how they're assigned.
My concern is the voltage coming out of the pre-outs, 200mV on Onkyo's spec sheet. Someone on another forum said that is WAY below the standard of 2V and some external amps may have trouble detecting the output at 200mV. I need to do more research into this because the main reason I would buy this clunker is to be able to use the pre-outs with my external amps (and to have access to Dirac Live as well as HDMI switching). If Onkyo has botched the pre-out stage, this POS is useless to me.

Sampling rate and bit depth of a normal CD was decided after a lot (a LOT!) of studies of human hearing, audio reproduction and the most extreme variations of content in terms of dynamics, range etc. There's not a single study to be had regarding the virtues "hi def", mqa or whatever the latest marketing acronym is.
Your ears and room further limits the need of more that the Redbook CD spec (44.1kHz/16bit) if not your gear (most AVRs thrash digital stuff to 12-14bits, see Audiosciencereview tests) process it to even lower bit depths

@@NirreFirre Most audio equipment does even have the fidelity required to properly reproduce 44khz, 16bit resolution let alone anything of higher resolution. So of course there will not be an audible difference on a great majority of audio systems. There are some systems that can do better than CD quality and you can hear the difference in the cases where the higher resolution files are indeed sourced from higher resolution sources. There are more subtle aspects to how sound is processed by our ears and brain that are not fully accounted for in the Nyquist limit. The Nyquist limit is a lower limit that is mathematically the lowest amount of rate and bit depth to reproduce a 20hz to 20khz bandwidth signal. The Nyquist limit has nothing to do with how our ears and brains process sound.
