BEZEL FREE with 65 INCH SCREENS!

  • We've been getting smashed with questions for the last few weeks about how we managed to make our 65 inch 4K screens Bezel Free.
    Asus sells a kit for smaller screens to achieve this effect, but it it's advertised as only being suitable for screens up to 27 inches, so in today's video I'll run you through how we combined two kits to work with our 65 inch screens with surprisingly good results.
    NOTE: Attempt this at your own risk. Using adhesive to attach things to your screens is not something to be complacent about and there's no guarantees the panels won't be damaged over time.

    Don't use the double back tape. It can come off your screen okay but it does not come off the plastic of the bezel free kit very easily. And if you rub it with anything the plastic scratches easily. To hold the plastic strip into your screen, I used fishing line from top to bottom. Just one piece of clear small diameter anchored at the top and at the bottom holds the strip down onto your screen.

    I'd almost be willing to bet those are similar to the plastic screens on old projection tvs, having said that you should be able to cast them in silicone to make a mold then cast in clean resin to make a copy. Evan and Kaitlyn do something similar with a weird holographic plastic film and the resin captured the surface detail and it worked

    • @nejcmirtic529
      @nejcmirtic529 Před 3 lety +4

      It is called lenticular lens, a bit different than fresnel. But yes, you had the right idea. Fresnel is a flat focusing lens and is shaped a bit differently than lenticular lens. Trading cards in 90s and early 00s had lenticular lens on top to create that 3D effect etc. Whereas fresnel lens is usually used as a substitute for a glass lens where the cost of the real lens would be too high.

    What if you cut each end of the two pieces so that they fit together like a puzzle, glue the pieces together where they connect and then either use the clips or rig something to hold them in place at the top and bottom. This would completely remove the need for sticking anything to your screens.
    You'd obviously be taking a risk with the bezel free kit, but better to ruin that than the monitor. You could just make something to trace over/around so that the cuts would line up.
    Or maybe the two pieces are thick enough that you wouldn't even need to fit them together and could just use a strong adhesive to combine them into one big piece.

    What ASUS use in their BEZEL FREE kit is not their invention(based on my findings). As per my understanding they use Fresnel lens, which is a part of any modern monitor. So all you need to do is to get a faulty TN, VA or IPS monitor and disassemble it (quite easy). I got one from DELL TN monitor and one from old IBM TN monitor and both work the same as ASUS lens. Trying to find the best way to mount those to my monitors. BTW Fresnel lens itself is fun to play with.... try it to achieve 3d effect on lighting objects or logos.

      1 - Superglue has a habit of leaving behind horible white residue on surrounding areas as it cures.

      yes but you will have to run the 1440p screen at the same res as the other two, to be able to surround them all together

    It seems kind of mindless that companies don't just make multiple sizes. Why wouldn't they want to make options?

    Can't we just use 65 inch TV which cost around 2000 dollars ? which cost half of the price of his monitor. Can someone please explain.

      Something like the LG CX also works. Doesn’t have gsync or DisplayPort though.

    So I would have to cut the bezel screen to work with 55". :(

      Shouldn’t need to. A bit of overhang won’t hurt.

    I switched to projectors when I used to have a sim rig, the amount of light from all those leds blasting ditectly into your eyes can't be good in the long term.

    Yer they are good value $196 each 👎so basically it would cost you $800 AU for a bezel kit for your screens I just don’t know how they could justify charging so much for a strip of plastic and a few brackets to hold them in place plain robbery

  • @WardenOfTerra

    You can just buy lenticular plastic sheets for so much cheaper that have a way higher LPI. This 'product' is an absolute waste of money. It makes me wonder how much money you've actually wasted without doing research first.

    To be honest a lot of this hassle can be saved if one buys a massive ultrawide curved monitor instead of three separate monitors.

    • @hansdietrich83
      @hansdietrich83 Před 3 lety

      Yeah no. 1. there are no tripple wide monitors 2. there are no 65" ultra wide screen monitors 3. triplle screen rendering is quite different from just streching one wide image around you

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  Před 3 lety +2

      Im not aware of any "massive ultrawide curved montor" that provides anything close to this field of view outside of multi-projector systems which have their own caveats.

    • @MarkoPejic14
      @MarkoPejic14 Před 3 lety

      But then you don't really get the "wrap-around" feeling which adds immersion no single monitor could provide, since it makes you really feel part of the game instead of being distanced from it

    • @launchsquid

      Where can you get a 195in, 2160x11,520 pixel, ultrawide curved monitor?

    • @mihirchitnis905
      @mihirchitnis905 Před 3 lety

      @@boostedmedia There are 49 inch curved ultrawide from LG and Dell. Just sit close to it and the field of view should be close to what you get. But I think a good VR headset is the way to go for racing immersion.
