Honestly some of Ennio's finest work, I genuinely like this more than the fistful trilogy soundtracks
Not to mention the film for which this wonderful soundtrack was written. One of the greatest films in its genre, directed by Sergio Corbucci, and a worthy rival to such greats as the Dollars trilogy and “Once upon a time in the West” (amongst many others), which also has an outstanding Morricone soundtrack.

A lot more subdued than his scores for the Dollars movies, I think, and it really works. The Great Silence is not really an epic myth, after all, or at least not a happy one.
