Emperor's children are a given for the end of 10th/ early 11th edition i'd say.
Votann and World Eaters need their full ranges. Tau auxiliaries that aren't just kroot or vespids.

The 4th edition Space Marine codex had a section about chapter traits. You could make a codex compliant chapter (as in it took all the standard units and equipment) and then pick your chapters traits, with you picking benefits and downsides to balance them out. This allows you to create a unique chapter but still follow the standard codex. They also included some of the 'common' chapters as examples, which included imperial fists, white scars and salamanders.. I feel this would be a much better option than including a codex for every compliant chapter.

Finish Votann, World Eaters and Harlequins first, then Emporer's children, Exodites (I want them to be a knights equivalent with giant Dinosaurs, maybe roll ynnari, corsairs and harlequins into the same codex and use them like agents), then maybe Adeptus Astra Telepathica as a new imperium faction (justification: the psychic awakening has increased the psyker supply for the imperium so much that no only can they fuel the emporer, the astronican, the grey knights, maintain psychic communication and supply the occasional psyker for other forces, but now have such a glut of psykers coming in that they can field their own entire formations and have struck out into the galaxy searching for psychic beacons like the Choral Engine, as enough have been found to suggest that there might be more and they can be used to either learn about the functioning of the astronomican so that it might be repaired, or else create a constellation of smaller beacons to allow enough redundancy to allow the intensity of the astronomican to make servicing the failing throne mechanisms physically possible. As a side gig they'll also be hunting and trying to decipher the functioning of psy tech in the hopes that they might learn something useful or else be able to make psychic weapons or summon demons of the emporer). I do like guard a ton so I hope Kreig and Elysians get some stuff to diversify the guard range, maybe just about 4-5 kits each (kreig already basically have 4, just make death riders and the squadron leader plastic, so they just need something like Grenadiers, engineers or maybe a command squad, ideally a squad that could be built in 2-3 different forms with different loadouts. Elysians would need more, probably an officer, infantry squad, drop Sentinel, tauros and maybe the Valkyrie sky Tallon but that would be plenty to be able to run guard in unique and different ways.)

Fourth?) army rather than say “nope I like just this one” but have other people not buying it because they’re not interested.
I’m a huge TSons fan. I would love more models. I recognize that not everyone is drawn to the aesthetic though. So instead of wanting a huge range, I just want 1-2 more models. Especially because GW has made sure our range really only has 2-3 kits plus characters because they write the rules to make the rest undesirable even in casual. If the rules changed even just a bit (maybe in the form of codex Tzeentch like what they did in aos) and there was support for playing the rest of the range…

@@timunderbakke8756 marines sell for four basic reasons...
      1. They're human (enough), so they function as a "relatable" power fantasy.
      2. They're accessible (easy to buy, easy to paint) and widely marketed (literally 95% of all promotional material).
      3. They get new stuff on a near monthly basis, so there's always something to purchase.
      4. Have the most substantial number of "whale" consumers out of any faction.
2 and 4 are probably the most consequential points to consider. It's often overlooked by veterans of the hobby when discussing sales, but a big driver of marine sales are new players just getting into 40k. They buy some marines to "test the waters", but the majority lose interest and simply stop after their initial purchases. Combine that endless revolving door of new consumers with a pre-existing subset that will purchase literally anything, and it's not hard understand why GW dumps resources haphazardly into marines.
This actually causes something of a self perpetuating problem - best exemplified by factions like the Dark Eldar. Factions get ignored - or culled - for excessive periods of time, which results in their sales being crippled due to lack of accessibility, like of interest, or lack of potential points of sale (ie veteran collectors already having what they want/need. This translates to a lack of sales, which in turn means GW avoids investment in the factor, thus compounding the issue.

Basically it was the guard effectively but you got to chose unique boons and some were locked to traitor or loyalists and that choice also locked out unit choices and allowed others(loyalist got +4 for everyone and strong lasguns, traitors got mutants and human wave tactics etc). I loved it because the army didn't need to be two separate armies, just one that was flexible for both. I would love to see like special detachment for guard that makes them traitors. I hate to sound like an old man, but back in my day if you wanted to run something weird lore-wise you found a faction that fit it, and ran with that.
"But-" you say "-I want cool rules that are specific to my exact headcannon for those things!". What makes you think GW will do even a half decent job of that? They can barely scrape together a half dozen interesting army-wide special rules, do you really want to run the risk of them screwing the pooch on your favorite subfaction?
This is pretty firmly monkey-paws all the way down - either you get to play an army that looks the way you want it to, or you end up being severely pigeonholed like LoV or Harlequins, with 5 units or fewer.

If people weren't buying the admech because they were too expensive and not specifically chaos, now they can, with the inclusion of a new subset of models and bam, you have more people buying those expensive kits, and all you had to do was add a few key dark mechanicum pieces to the line. I would recommend doing that via kill team and then transitioning in some new HQ models, and maybe a few upgrade sprues, or potentially just a new basic troop choice, add in some minimum required amount of chaos demons, and now you have a diverse range efficiently using your current chaos knights, your desire to sell HQs, and keeping the range from being a ridiculous challenge to keep in line with the current ad mech.

I am sure there are other examples, but when the literal battleline unit for an army is perpetually out of stock, that is a pretty serious example and not just a “oh it was the new hotness” like the blue scribes or some specific unit kit going OOS due to sudden rules based demand
    2. GW needs to add a few more options to some of the smaller armies first.
That said, GW is absolutely choosing option 3 “hey let’s make half an army and sell it! Then next edition we can sell the other half and do it again with next!”

I feel like the Inquisition and Militarum Tempestus could best be realized as a shared AM detachment. Apart from good stuff for Scions it should lend itself particularly well to integration of agents of the Imperium. Fluff wise it would represent special assignments on behalf of or together with specific groups within the imperial hierarchy.

I feel we'll be getting more 'allies' rules for more armies, like more separate renegades and chaos guard, probably padded out with rules like "Brood Brothers". Honestly the rules to use some guard models in Chaos and even Tau as human based Auxiliaries should be available.. though also super easy to just homebrew.

It is possible to field a 2000 point army of the Sisters of Silence, legally. Just that no one will do it.
And there already are Khorne army boxes. Just look at the the daemon boxes GW sell now.

Emperors children need to be a thing but other than that they really need to redo old models and add some new stuff to some armies that have few choices. Votann, admech, and chaos daemons come to mind as armies that could really use a few more units to choose from

I think the Deathwatch (in response to re-emergence of the Tyranids as a threat), Grey Knights (to help deal with the fact there are more traitor Primarchs than loyalist ones) and the Inquisition (to deal with the aforementioned threats) will likely pop back up again with new releases.
I think we can predict that Squats will keep getting new releases - likely becoming the Lumineth/Stormcast of 40k. I would like to see a Traitor Guard and Dark Mechancium codex though. I feel like their appearance in the Blackstone Fortress, the emergence of Vashtorr as a possible "Forge God" and the lack of Blood Pact in the new World Eaters codex all hints at these armies appearing in the near future.
I suspect we'll see more of the Dark Mechancium once the Iron Warriors get their update, with Perturabo likely forming a pact with the faction to gain access to units and buffs - like how the Tau and Kroot work.
I am hoping we'll get to see more Imperial Navy units as well, as I really dig the grim dark nautical vibe the Imperial Navy Breachers had.

None, we can barely get enough codexes out as it is. We should be consolidating factions, not expanding them.
Codex: Inquistion- Deathwatch, GreyKnights and Sisters of Battle all rolled into ordo xenos/malleus/hereticus lists
    Codex: Compliant- SM and BA
Codex: Divergent- BT, SW and DA
    Codex: Heretics- CSM and Daemons
There, now maybe we can all have our books within 2 years of an edition release.

To me, it looks like the Emperor's Children are slated to be this edition's release.
They brought out a Fulgrim model that looks far more like his 40k appearance, have made CSM as a whole very strong atm, and...actually I can't think of a third reason tbh, maybe 'cause I just woke up. But what little I understand about the lore and tabletop seem to point in that direction to me.

GW shouldn't be adding a single new army until all of the current ones have been fully updated and brought into line first. Thousand Sons, World Eaters, Drukhari and Votann are the most immediate examples, with Craftworlds needing the rest of their aspect warriors and phoenix lords updating.
I also think some codices need some serious streamlining (lookin' at you Space Marines) or to be ditched entirely (Some strong arguments have been made to simply fold Chaos Darmons into the other chaos codices, like how AoS does).

    • @timunderbakke8756
      @timunderbakke8756 Před 6 měsíci +1

I’d actually really like it if they broke up chaos daemons and rolled them into the 4 next to their corresponding chaos legion. I would love a Tzeentch book, especially if they had a way to synergize the other models with TSons instead of the “oh you have characters and 2 units that play with your rules” like we do now.
Then have a detachment for souping the daemons so folks who did invest heavily aren’t screwed and can play.

I get that this is already said in video but I wish they would finish world eaters, it's shockingly dumb how few special units we have and how little play our main unit Berserkers get. In a thousand point games I normally run two hundred points max 300 if I got good characters plus how we have no fun moving units on bikes or flying. For the most part I just play red chaos space Marines.

I think Ynnari are in theory an interesting idea but so far have proven to be a massive detriment to the balance of the other Eldar factions. Drukhari in particular keep feeling the nerf hammer on their few half decent units because they are too strong when brought with other eldar rather than actually being an issue in their main faction. They need to just have different points values if brought with Ynnari and balance them separately based on the faction.

Emperor's Children, Dark Mechanicum and the Eldar Exodites are my top 3 most wanted, but everyone says that. I wouldn't be against something just completely different that we've barely seen before in the lore, just this new faction filled with stuff not seen in any warhammer game. Having said that I don't actually know what that means lol. Maybe a new robotic faction (a renewed Men of Iron probably) that takes on a much more Transformers/Terminator look compared to the Necrons necromancy undead one or the AdMech's body horror/steampunk look? I'm sure GW could do something really unique with the Hrud if they ever wanted to expand on them. Or fuck it, new chaos god with a brand new aesthetic. Maybe it was born in a different galaxy, maybe it came from the "deep warp", maybe it's the King in Yellow, or maybe it's the great horned rat, who knows. I'm open to the idea though.

The Inquisition would almost be a super faction, but could be a fun way to extend some ranges. Also, arguably the most fun aspect of a traitor guard army would be the new corrupted tanks and artillery. Those would look super badass.

I would love to see rules for the 2nd and 12th legion, whereby you select loyalist chapter benefits or chaos chapter benefits and then build an army.
