The thing I love about fighting games is that low tiers will always have the advantage of knowledge checks.
Yup. When base GBVS came out I was running long winstreaks with Lowain. since his super was a massive knowledge check. When the beta for rising was up, i was having better luck with Seox/Lancelot than I was with Lowain.
16:20 is Zooey in a nutshell. I don't need buffs to standard things, but just make her tools work reliably. Every single strong thing Zooey has, there's an equally easy way to screw it up or make it so it doesn't work. U.Dragon missing, M/H.Dragon follow-ups being difficult to land, 214L whiffing at the tip of f.M, Lightning set-ups in the corner being throwable if you hit your 2H just a little too low... each single thing is whatever, but combined, and she's just so hard to make work.

I think the biggest issue with Zooey is that her kit is locked behind resources, you have to either expend a bravery point for pressure/utility that other characters can achieve with Special H, or use Ultimate Skills for a "DP" and safe dragon meter gain. The biggest change I want is to make her Forward Special H to be invincible.
I’d say its that she’s designed as a set play character while in the current build all her set play is fake, and can be mashed out/DP’d out of if the opponent knows the matchup. Not to mention all the ultimate skills that that can be used as neutral skips to bypass all her pressure. I have yet to find really good use for her new heavy dragon laser. Throw in three instant counters with the new system mechanics, and you can waste entire resources that can countered on one button press. She needs a lot of tweaks in the next balance patch to make her kit more cohesive and give her better options to lock people down.
@@ChaoticStrike She's a set play character with no good set play options, she's a puppet character without negative edge causing her to have high difficulty weaving her puppet into her gameplay, she's a rushdown character without reliable way to rush in bar the universal Dash L.
She's got so much of every archetype crammed into her that none of the options are really good. She doesnt even have good shield pressure because setting up the lightnings literally just open you up for your opponent, and almost every other option she can use is actually minus on block.

Seox and Nier being god tier simply confirms that KMR loves Dark element the most.

As a non-hater, watching these sets was pretty fun. I can't wait for the inevitable Zooey sweep.
Something to know about that ultimate dragon summon combo into EX Lightning setup. Its -1, so you're going to have to condition the opponent to respect the lightning release, or that thing that happened at 4:54 where diaphone just got grabbed immediately will happen, especially if you're slightly late on either the dragon or the lightning, which will happen sometimes!
If by chance you're not hurting for dragon meter, you can opt to go with 214U > EX Lightning instead of Fire breath after 2H, (or just omit the raging strike and go 5LL 214U after 214H) and you'll be +22 after lightning is set up! This route does lose damage, but it's so scary to be on the defensive against. After a bit of conditioning to get your opponent to not immediately mash in this situation, you can start going for High/Lows with 66H/2L!
Also alternatively, if you want to save your meter for a kill, you can do the normal combo all the way up to Fire breath, and then just opt to do a slight delay, and 2H instead of ultimate dragon, doing EX lightning setup afterward. This setup is only +17, but it keeps you at full meter, allowing the next combo to almost certainly kill!

@@Diaphone At +1, it still loses to throws, right? (Unless you throw yourself). My own lightening set-ups are inconsistent and sit between -1 and +5ish

when the TNS video came out, the sideswap setup made me go "she can do that?" and then corner dragon refill combo happened and i had to pause to fire up the game.
Zooey's so so fun to play but even though she's the character I spent the most time on, it feels like I have to work so hard against certain characters (and if they have matchup knowledge it's such an uphill battle)

Would love some quality of life buffs for Zooey. Things that improve overall consistency, such as the beam always putting people into spin state so that you can always follow up on it.
This is such a fun game to watch and play, fantastic tourney man.

zooey feels fun to play, its just her specials feel like they need many, small tweaks and buffs to come together (and maybe a meterless reversal wouldnt hurt)
Zooey is a character I've been planning to play that I used to play in VS, so I was surprised that people were saying she was bottom 5. I don't exactly think she is amazing, but I'm surprised they think she is that bad.

Must say I am a new GBVS player and I can easily say I suck at 2d but man Zooey even if she has problems she is very fun. I can definitely say your video gave me ideas to improve, even if she needs buff I am too unskilled to notice but I really enjoy her. Lancelot also has a pretty hard time dealing with her armor dash move, he can punish it but you have to be right next to him, but if you are even slightly spaced out he can't reach you with a fast enough button

I would just like to be able to combo off throw with ex lightning like other characters can with their setup tools. The lightning going off automatically if you throw feels super forced when no other character works that way.

When I was trying this game for free Zooey was one of my choices. She felt good to play and fun, I had no idea she was comsidered trash.
After trying everyone I still like Zooey but I think Beezulbub is going to be my main.

I wonder why you didn't counter attack with a 66H, i guess that 66H would pass through everything and eventually leading into a full combo, also you would be able to condition him into throwing 236m instantly instead of charging it, that way you would be safe from the charged 236M into 66M which are prettt typical from beewbs, giving you the possibility to answer with 236U, j.S or 623H if feeling cheeky,

I'm starting to wonder if I should just swap out Zooey for someone else. Granted, it's not like I'm all that good anyway, but it really feels like most of my few wins are more due to my opponent's lack of match up knowledge than my own skill level.

You said she doesn't have the best tools to approach / has issue getting the laser off, but doesn't the EX DP and 66H kind of make her approach pretty easy? You get them wanting to bait those, which lets you get in range of your (really good) buttons, and also the hesitation caused by people baiting those buys time to do the laser. Maybe it's a bit too risky for your playstyle though? IMO Great neutral and an absolute terror in the corner. Can't see her as being even close to bad.
Yea just risky compared to some characters that have reactionary or safer ways to approach

1:12 is there a way to get the U dragon to combo after the M dragon consistently? a lot of the time the U dragon just whiffs underneath, even if i try to 2H the opponent low to the ground.
it's especially hard when trying to get it to work after juggling with j.U before 2H

zooey is one of the coolest character, lore wise and visually. But she's so hard to play I gave it up.
I was under the impression that people were saying that you downplay her pretty much (which I agree with though, I never have a good time with her), not that you can't win with her.

If it’s the last tier it’s bottom tier. Bottom tier doesn’t mean shit unwinnable character 0/10 match up necessarily, it means worse than most of the cast. If the game is balanced enough though in character strength it doesn’t mean they can’t win. So yes she is bottom tier even if she is b+
