- Playing some in my BFV American P70 Night Fighter, Raw first impressions as i react for the first time to this new content. Also managed to briefly check out the BF5 P51D here on Al Sundan. This wasn't even content vs Japanese, just vs Germany. Interesting! Only in Battlefield 5

To awnser your question about one a-20 being a “night fighter” and the other not being one, that’s because the “night fighter” variant has a radar that made it easy to detect hostile aircraft at night, the prongs at the front of the plane’s nose are the radar antennas. Also the black paint obviously makes it harder to spot by the naked eye when it’s dark

Im pretty sure one uses the allison engine and the other is a merlin engine. I cant remember which but when the og p51 came out the motor was a piece of shit. The only thing that saved that fighter was the 2 nd engine they put in it. It was a piece of shit in the beginning the 2nd motor is what made it such a great fighter. The airforce were canceling production until some guy decided to use the 2nd motor and the airforce realized what a amazing plane it turned into
Grayson the Allison engine was the shit one they then used the engine out the spitfire the Rolls Royce Merlin and the rest is history

The p51-d was primarily American fighter where as when they rolled out the p51-k varient they were used in the British military quite a bit
@@Grayson340 the K and D use same engine. The first guys right it's literally just a different brand of prop because the US wanted to produce a lot of mustangs as quickly as possible but the prop manufacturer couldn't keep up. So they ended up buying more props from a different company as well. Everything else is the same and the performance is identical. Only thing is some reports from ground crews who worked on these birds say the K prop took more wear and tear because the manufacturing process allowed for more tolerance. But that's pretty much not an issue. A lot of K models ended up getting their props replaced with the D model props and it was nearly impossible to tell if it was a K or D without researching the serial number.
The older engine (Allison) was in the original P-51 variants like the MK1 (British made pre Merlin mustangs), the "IA" or "NA-91", and the P-51A.
They switched to the Merlin with the B, C, D, K and a few lesser know variants.
Worth noting is that the original Mustangs with the Allison was certainly not a piece of shit. It just underperformed in it's intended role which was high altitude bomber escort. The Allison was a beastly engine but what most people don't know is that engines work vastly differently at different altitudes. The Allison was a very powerful low altitude fighter and performed amazing at low speeds. Meaning it was a monster in low altitude dog fights. It could dance low and slow circles around the BF-109s. But the problem is that wasn't what they needed it for. The US already had P-40s, P-47s and other low altitude fighters. But they needed a long range high altitude fighter. The airframe of the Mustang was top of the line from day one as well. So once they slapped the Merlin in with it's great high altitude performance it was perfected. That being said, the Merlin didn't like low altitudes and was worse than the Allison at maintaining energy in low speed maneuvers. This is why the Mustang was know for it's style or dog fighting called "Boom and Zoom." Instead of getting into slow turning fights they would make a pass at an enemy only turning slightly to line up a shot. Once the enemy starts to turn to much, the mustang breaks away, throttles up and hauls ass away. By the time the oponents can turn back to the Mustang it's already too far and too fast to shoot. So the mustang does a high yo-yo and comes back for another run. Kind of like a knight fighting on horse back with a spear or lance. Like jousting.

The regular A-20 is an attacker bomber, it played a similar role to what the A-10 warthog currently does. The P-70 night fighter was a variant that specialised at night fighting which is why it has a nose mounted radar to as it was more geared towards AA, but something to note is only the A-20 variant has a gunners seat as the P-70’s defence weapons are pilot controlled.
And the Americans have not replaced the British, but instead the maps support both as potentials

Yeah there’s people who just sit at the back on AA guns it’s the most cancerous thing ever
Yeah aa camps are annoying for pilots but I suppose it's what they're built for best way to deal is you or a team mate fly right in their line of sight but keep far back enough to dodge while the other flies the long way round low to the ground and bombs it. I love the aa tanks though they can be great aggressive tanks used right clearing enemy planes but also effective af against infantry. Its just proper tanks you have to run from lol
Thats their purpose tho. Its their job to take down planes. I know its annoying but its best to play with friends and ask them if they can kill them.
I mean the only time I use aaa guns is when I keep losing air superiority and that's when I use aaa guns but dam I don't sit there the whole match waiting for some plane
I just want to learn to fly well but then tryhard pilots kill me immediately whilst turning on the smallest of dimes, so I then camp and shoot them down w AA. It's me, I'm that guy on the AA gun :))
1:24 every plane in existence can be a night fighter, they just need to paint it black, and the difference Between the P-70 and a A-20 is, the P-70 has a radar and some 20mm's the A-20 has 6x50.cals and its a ground attacker, big guns are better on nighfighters cuz they can shoot down planes a lot quicker than then 50.cals, so that they can be still stealthy after fireing. ( this could be wrong, this is just my theory)
Yes, typically most night fighters have radar equipped. I believe they do tend to favor cannons over machine guns, because they are just that much more lethal. That being said I think they traditionally are larger, two engined aircraft, like the Blenheim, A-20, and Ju-88. I'm not sure why this kind of vehicle specifically. They don't necesarily have to be painted black, but darker colors do help conceal the aircraft at night.
Edit: My guess is light bombers/heavy fighters were used because they could house the equipment necessary for night time flight, such as radar or other systems. Nightfighters are virtually obsolete today, since virtually every modern military vehicle is fitted with equipment to operate at night.

Cannons were used because they were designed to engage night bombers. Hmg were better for fighters, but bombers really needed a cannon to destroy it quickly.

Love the P51'S. The Puma and Greyhound were great additions also. Its sad, there is so much more they could have done with this game.

in ww2, nightfighters were basically mission-specialized planes. A nightfighter might have better radar, so it can see in the dark, or quieter engines or whatever. It is just a plane, but designed to fly at night. neato burrito
Nightfighters were the only planes with radar. That is why they were equipped with radars so they could see at night, find enemy bombers in the dark and shoot them down. Nothing to do with quieter engines.

The A-20 Havoc was a medium bomber and attack aircraft It had 6x 12.7mm machine guns in the nose with a bombload and rocket racks.The P-70 is a modified variant of the A-20 where the 6x 12.7mm machine guns were replaced with 4x 20mm autocannons and a radar in the nose to help with aircraft detection at night to hunt down bombers.
The P-51K Mustang was essentially a P-51D with a different propeller. The D had a standard 4-blade prop but due to war time demands the company couldnt keep up so the K had a 4-blade 11' diameter hollow steel propeller.

The difference between the normal one and the night fighter was that the night fighter had radar, making it way easier to find targets in the dark

With the a-70 you couldn’t switch seats because it’s an upgrade
P-70, but yes :D Niccaman, if you watch the model closely, you can see a sealed back gunner position with no guns. Go for the upgrade and you will have back gunner
@@hlaci98 as the p-70 is designed to be a nught fighter, it has no rear gunner. The upgrade just adds 2 autonomous guns in the engine nacelles that you cant aim. Cause it was a night fighter they removed the rear guns and bomb bay to be able to fit radar equipment

The P-70 was basically an A-20 bomber fitted to be a longe range fighter. Night fighters have radar installed so they can detect threats in low visibility

The “P-70” is just a variant of A-20, it being classified as a night fighter means it would’ve carried a nose mounted radar, probably had the nose mounted machine guns switched out for 20mm cannons, and been stripped of secondary weapons to account for the added weight.

Night fighter, because it was a high altitude plane and the reverse design of the tail wing. Made it quiet so in the night a really really high quiet plane got the name night fighter

just so you know,
in ww2, at night, it was outstandigly hard to aquire enemy planes in the darkness of night. this gave way to the night fighter role, because radar was very rare. these night fighters would be equiped with radar and sent out either on daring solo missions, but most of the times just to patrol the skies. when they had something on radar, they would go over to it and mash its head in.

The paint is why it’s a night fight and I couldn’t tell but for the a-20 did they use the varent that has 8 50cal forward mounted machines guns

Its a night fighter because of the modified radar antenna on its nose which allowed it to engage flying targets at range in the dark. Smaller planes couldn't hold the weight of the equipment.

P70 is single seat from the looks of it. Maybe the pilot can control the rear facing guns or the 2nd seat becomes available when you equip it?

The difference between the P-51D & K is the K had a slightly different propeller because it was made by a different contractor. Other than that they're the same plane.

The P70 was the night fighter version of the A20. The P70 had radar for night intercept missions. The nose was solid instead of glassed over. With a pair of 20 mm and 4 to 8 .Browning .50 cal in the nose, enemy bombers returning from night missions could end up having a really shitty night. Imagine being a bomber pilot returning home, and suddenly having a whole lot of bullets coming at you out of the dark. They sometimes didn't load tracers, which meant figuring out where all the fires was coming from difficult, if you were still alive. They were replaced by the P 61, which was total death in the dark.
If I had to guess the night fighter is the equivalent to the Stuka and Mosquito while the P20 is the bomber variant.
The nightfighter variant has the antenna sticking out the front. Probably for radar so you could... fight at night.

I don't think night fighter historically had a swivel turret, locked straight ahead, so that may be why you can't switch positions; or it is a dice error. I believe that the night fighters were equipped with radar later into the war, and were used as either bomber interceptors or flew long distance night fighter support with British bomber missions. B-26 variant is an example.

What are your plane settings? Especially for the cockpit view. When i'm in that view, looking around also turns my plane and it doesn't stay stiff in the center with my crosshair.
SporkForker do you mean free view? It’s been a while since I played but on Xbox with my control scheme you could hold left bumper and then use the right analog stick to look freely around the canopy, without changing direction. Pretty essential for acquiring ground targets.
@@davidharris1991 No I mean on pc when i go in to cockpit view, it free looks no matter what and the only way to aim steadily is so aim in with right mouse button and shoot, but my camera still goes off like free look. i want it like how niccaman has it so he can freelook and have it locked in the center.

@@chaddickey66 the B-25 would've been fine, it's a medium bomber, the B-17 and B-24 would be too big to fly around the map, or the map would be too smol, it would be like putting a B-29 in there lol, too chonky and very little room to fly
You need to get a specialization for the p-70 in order to get the gunner seat
The p70 was a night fighter because it had a super powerful air radar in the nose which is why it is such a large airframe for a fighter
The night fighter gets radar. As for a rear gunner, that was an option to unlock. So it looks for that plane, you may have tough decisions of what to unlock
For me I play on Xbox and the bombers on the American team are glitched because of the camera in 1st person is this just me or anybody else?

Only dif between P51D and K is the prop lol. The D was the local US version with a Hamilton prop, the K had an Aeroproducts prop.
