Bans on Switch (and how to avoid them)

  • The question of "Will I be banned?" on Switch has been asked since the beginning of time. A ban is when Nintendo doesn't let a specific console or Nintendo account use online services. This includes the eShop, updating games or your firmware, and online play in games. This video goes over what a ban is and how to avoid it.

    Off topic, but this video took such a long time because I switched from using Olive Video Editor to Adobe products (Pr, Ae, Ai). I would keep using Olive, but I'll be getting an actual PC soon (pcpartpicker.com/list/8DzLsL) instead of a laptop. This means I can make more higher quality videos, and quicker, without being limited by both my laptop's resources and Olive's.

      XCI is basically the same thing as NSP. just one (XCI) is for cartridges and the other (NSP) is for digital titles.
      installing either will ban you, even if you install an XCI dump you made from your own switch.
      also, going online in emuNAND is a HUGE risk... since you don't plan on pirating anything then there's no good reason for you to have it.

    • @inconsistent_dg
      @inconsistent_dg  Před 7 měsíci

      I wouldnt risk save editing any splatoon/usually online game. For those, it is more likely to be a permanent ACCOUNT BAN, meaning that while your console can play other games fine, it will permanently ban you from playing online modes in splatoon. Which is a lot worse than not being able to use a few items

    • @inconsistent_dg
      @inconsistent_dg  Před rokem

      splat3 doesn't have a save editor, but if you're talking about spla2n then this is worth a read: mirayxs.github.io/SplatHeX/SplatHeX.html
      i don't have splat2/3 so i can only relay what it says about dangerous modifications:
      "Not everything that you can edit is "safe" and can lead to a Splatoon 2 online ban. Dangerous modifications include, but is not limited to:
      - Sea Snails
      - MMR Values*
      - Level
      - Rank*
      - Number of Matches Played Online*
      - Number of Disconnects*
      - Salmon Run Rank
      - Salmon Run Play Counter
      - Salmon Run Points
      - Using illegal gear/weapons**
      * Not possible with SplatHeX alone.
      ** For example: Playing with Hero Weapons even though you did not unlock them properly."
      from this, it seems that you'd be banned by giving yourself a level 90 item while being under that level.

    So. If I have a legal and vanilla pokémon/animal crossing save file on a nintendo switch that cannot go online (banned), and that I transfer it to a Nintendo switch that is not banned via JKSV, as long as there is not 2 consoles connected online on the same game with the same save file I won't get banned at all ?

    • @HeiLangXiaoDuo
      @HeiLangXiaoDuo Před 4 měsíci

      I don't have a hacked Switch but I have studied about it these days..
      You cannot install JKSV on your online working Switch OFW unless you want that console to be banned too, just like this video explained it doesn't matter whatever you do, everything will be shared with Nintendo. I assume, when you install JKSV and moved the save then uninstalled it, it will be shared with Nintendo too which will mark red flags on your console.
      Even if you installed JKSV on your EmuNand, you cannot use online on EmuNand, so it won't work. The only thing you can probably do is, just share your valuable Pokemon to the new game save.

    • @Palourde
      @Palourde Před 4 měsíci

      @@HeiLangXiaoDuo @HeiLangXiaoDuo Your studies are wrong then. I transfered all my pokemon save files and a Sonic Frontiers save file from a banned switch to my hacked but not banned switch. Then I went online and I'm not banned (it was 2 months ago) On OFW of course.

    • @HeiLangXiaoDuo
      @HeiLangXiaoDuo Před 4 měsíci

      Then let's hope you won't get banned in coming months, I wouldn't risk chances. Not everyone get banned instantly unless it's piracy. Some people have been banned after months, maybe I'm wrong and they allow JKSV, who knows. Either way, they already have your system under the flags. Since your system communicate with the Nintendo servers and they know what it had or has. I wish you the best! :) Happy gaming!

      pirating, or doing any bannable actions on an offline emuNAND, will not get you banned if you go online in sysNAND. but remember that emu and sys are basically 2 different consoles, pirating and playing a game on emu does not make it show up on sys. but this is as much as i will help you, since i don't endorse piracy and talking about it could get my channel taken down.

    Can confirm about getting banned even on Emunand. I had pirated games there and I wasn't banned at all, until I got a little too curious with Super Mario Bros Wonder, trying to play the game online (multiplayer online) and it gave me an error that it doesn't work. I ignored it because it seemed like a normal internet error then literally the next day later, I got banned with the console saying its restricted from Nintendo servers. I pirated my games and they haven't gotten me banned. I had Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party Superstars (never attempted to play online with it), Shin Megami Tensei III Remaster and V, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, yet I was never banned from those games at all. My guess was because I never attempted to play online (I had WiFi on but I never attempted to play multiplayer) with any of them. Those games showed up on my Sysnand's play activity but I wasn't banned from it at all.
    So yeah, TLDR; Using EmuNand recklessly can still get you a system ban. You can try to pirate a game but never ever attempt to play online with it, otherwise you'll be safe.

      Oui, il existe un risque inhérent que vous puissiez éventuellement être banni après avoir piraté votre Switch. Cependant, il existe des moyens de réduire ce risque et de profiter d'un homebrew sans interdiction garantie.
      Par exemple, vous pouvez utiliser un emuNAND qui bloquera les connexions à Nintendo, mais utilisez votre Switch en mode normal pour utiliser les services en ligne. Et selon la façon dont vous utilisez le Switch, vous pouvez rester connecté aux serveurs de Nintendo avec un Switch piraté et ne pas être banni. Par exemple, j'utilise principalement mon Switch pour modifier Animal Crossing, que Nintendo ne considère pas bannable.

    • @inconsistent_dg
      @inconsistent_dg  Před rokem +3

      i don't personally play ultimate with any mods (just because it's a competitive game, and big N likes to crack down on those more heavily). and if you were to mod, i'd do it offline to be on the safe side. but apparently you can as this is what Manito (another modder) says about ultimate bans:
      ---------
      Q: What mods are Wi-Fi safe? How can I avoid getting banned?
      A: Most mod descriptions will say if they are Wi-Fi safe or not. You can also leave a comment on the mod page and ask if the mod is safe or not. Mods that change gameplay or game mechanics are only safe in Battle Arenas in which both you and anyone who spectates or plays in the arena have the same exact gameplay changing mods and the same versions of said gameplay mods. Otherwise you will desync from the game and the match will stop, which has not been verifiably proven to cause bans, but is still something you should try to avoid out of caution. I personally have gotten a few desyncs(crashes) when playing online and that was due to me using mods that I thought were Wi-Fi safe but weren't. I also DO NOT recommend sharing modded clips, replays, screenshots, or modded Mii costumes to "Shared Content" in Ultimate online. People in this server have been banned from smash online or had their switch banned from all online services for that. Feel free to share these photos or clips on other social media though!
      Afaik the only smash online bans that have happened have been from playing as Giga Bowser, or using stages that aren't accessible in the default game
      ---------
      i should make the distinction that being *online* and *playing online* are 2 different things. from this description you can be connected to the internet and not be banned using a gameplay changing mod, but using gameplay changing mods in online play (playing with other people) could end up getting you banned because of desync.
      from his description, it sounds like you can play online without desyncs only with cosmetic mods
