UPDATE: To address the “sparseness” of the equipment many of you had astutely pointed out, today Aptera announced that those automated robots “AGVs” have finally arrived! This is the next step towards large scale production!
czcams.com/users/shortswyhqxf9AfoE?feature=share
That's good news but they "arrived" about a month ago......
@bobhilder1469 I think last week or so, but today was the official announcement.
@@SavingGreen May 24.
@bobhilder1469 gotcha. Thanks again!
Looking forward to seeing these rolling off the line!
I've been a long term subscriber to the philosophy of "never buy a new car".
Aptera is a sound exception to this rule.
This is a truly different vehicle that is going to be the game changer, especially for folks in the states.
We need to get away from driving tanks and monster trucks (vehicles that reactive autopilot minded people buy because they are easy targets for major manufacturers). Not hating...I genuinely feel bad for materialists are slaving away to maintain an image, or think they can find happiness in something like a massive inefficient vehicle, or anything else that further harms this living Earth.
✌️ 🌍🌎🌏🙏
Well done. There's a lot of new details to be gleaned from this, both from what was (and wasn't) said and what I see in the background. This single video has given us Aptera nerds more info than the sum of what Aptera has released in months. If you go again, please record and render in 4K.
There is a recent thorough study of realistic kWh/day at this vid. Better and I'm sure more accurate than anything Aptera ever did. Combo of these 2 vids plus analyses of SEC filing is all very helpful.

I love her energy. It’s neat to listen to contributors outside of Steve and Chris. Hopefully, the behind the scenes team will receive more light. It gives a family feel.

"Building and selling motorcycles"... there, I fixed it for ya!
They've been getting "close" for the better part of 10+ years. It will be 2030 something before the first car rolls off the line if the next recession doesn't get them first.
As a SONO GRP investor, I wish I invested in APTERA instead.
Great video! I firmly believe that Aptera's use of third-party software solutions like CarPlay and openpilot is a testament to their forward-thinking approach. Established tech companies generally produce superior software to automobile companies, and both CarPlay and openpilot are considered leaders in their respective classes. In my view, Aptera's integration of these third-party systems is a strength, not a weakness. 26:14
Not really as Apple/Google only provide infotainment software. They can't compare to Tesla's fully integrated software suite.
I agree that adopting third-party solutions at this stage in development makes the most sense and should fill in some key gaps to get to launch.
It’s android automotive which is free. For 50 usd more it includes apple car play.
The google maps etc is extra.
Tons of electric car companies are going for android automotive ..
Glad they dropped the custom solution - that was suicide

If the 250 mile version isn't cheaper than $25,000 this company will have such a niche (small) market, because of the Tesla Model 3.

concerns: performance in hills, mountains. handling while the trunk area is loaded to max. no roll down windows? ac? seems the pv cells would fill out more area... perhaps an aux roll out flexible PV module? hot to heat?
I have been following Aptera since I found out about it a few years ago. I'm happy to see that things are still moving forward. I wish the team all the best.
I have expressed several concerns about some design elements before. Things that seem to needlessly deviate from the norm, and could be off-putting to potential buyers.
The big ones being the "hello kitty" steering yoke, the ball/nub/light assembly on the rear and the placement of the side-view camera screens.
The steering should have the option of a more conventional steering wheel as most drivers will use hand-over-hand when turning a corner. That yoke, missing a huge chunk of the wheel will hinder that method of steering, and could cause a an accident when a driver goes to reach for the most crucial control of any car, and there is nothing there. That, and if you look at the current iteration, You can see Hello Kitty's face with two beady little eyes and a huge gaping maw, and her two ears sticking up at the top. (Sorry if you can not unsee it now.) I for one certainly do not want HK staring into my soul with a huge gaping maw, the entire time I'm driving. Blame it on pareidolia. Perhaps the steering column and wheel seen on the test bench will see production. Hopefully? Can you shed any light on that?
Then there is the issue with the location of the sideview screens. Again drivers are accustomed to looking toward the location of conventional side mirrors when changing lanes of checking traffic behind them. The previous version of the car had those screen at each end of the dash, very near where traditional mirrors would be. I think this should be layout. An advantage of that would solve a third concern I have. That being having the speedometer, charge/range, and other practical vehicle info displayed in the normal location, ahead of the driver, rather than off to the side. Again, any word on that being considered?
A fourth concern would be that nub on the rear of the car, where the plate light is housed. How long until that thing is snapped off of there when crawling in/out of the rear on a camping trip, or when loading, unloading cargo? You know that someone is going to go to get out of their Aptera camping package setup, throw their legs over the edge, and slide out snapping that ball/nub thing right off, or getting it nearly shoved into their nethers. Either way, not good.
So I was just wondering if there is any word regarding any of those things.
Thanks, best wishes, and have a wonderful day.
Glad to see familiar turn signal and wiper sticks out of the steering column at 6:05
Yeah it’s got some traditional features, fortunately.
I’m an investor in Australia & am eager to receive my Aptera! Great interview 👍🏼

Also Aussie and hoping to get my Aptera one day :)
Nice video! I am a Aptera investor and believer just like I was in Sono Motors in Germany. This factory looks like Sono was just before they ran out of funds for starting the mass production... (you need hundreds of millions for that) Producing prototypes is difficult. Mass production is infernal...
Hope Aptera can get the funds needed!
The simplicity of the design make it less expensive to assemble than a conventional vehicle design.

Looks like 2025 for mine, when a real production shop is operational.
I think 2025 is a realistic timeframe for full-scale production. The larger battery versions may be towards the end of the early batches
This video is awesome and I'm excited to see the advancements of what Aptera is gearing up for in manufacturing. However at 20:00, I know this is nit picky but I really.. wanted to see the light bulb that 'simulates the sun'. Missed opportunity. Yes I'm being annoying. Thanks for the video.
Good call on the light… and thanks for the support!
These days there are a few different light bulbs that can be used to simulate the sun. One that I'm familiar with is what's called a pulsed Xenon lamp. A "PXA-80" from Lamp Express is a good example of such a lamp. It's quite an interesting, and expensive, looking bulb!
edit: Check out starting at 6:34 of the following vid! "Aptera Tour Part 2 Aptera, The Movement" by The Ninjineer The bulb is in the center of the 1/2 spherical reflector housing.
I believe Tesla is putting detachable side-view mirrors on the Cybertruck. I was hoping that Aptera would do the same. Sounds like a possibility.
Yes, I don't think for the launch edition, but that is the "plan".
Good grief! I believe I can fit an 88-key piano case and small gig rig in the back of this! I did not think it would be possible, but this is a great piece of gear, folks.

Thanks so much! I just emailed the media relations team and coordinated the time with Audra. Took several months…
Cd of 0.13 is pretty great.
Do we have any idea what the frontal area will be?
Not sure, but I know a lot of the team is in Europe this summer doing testing.
This is very good video. It shows why companies don’t like to offer solar options. This is very time consuming and easy to go wrong with the solar panels.
Yes! Great point. I was surprised how much of the facility was dedicated just to solar development, but that's because most of the frames are manufactured elsewhere and the final assembly will be in CA.
As long as there is some type of way to see what the computers are sending and receiving, im sure there will be a way.
nice work and good luck............dont forget frugality in your endeavours, it might help the birthing pains.

Auda is indeed super friendly and was nice enough to invite me on the tour! I had reached out to several employees over the last year and she was the only one to follow-up :)
Yo wait a minute, we aren't just going to skim past that "doors will open with a knock knock sensor"! are you saying, as long as you're within proximity of your car you can KNOCK on the door and it will open?! so will this involve electric/pneumatic auto open doors too or will it just be a "pops open" and you do the rest type deal?
I think the doors swing up automatically with pneumatics, but not sure…
for me the efficiency of the aptera is what interests me in EV's.
same here!
When can I get to buy one in Norway? We have loads of Teslas here now so would be cool to see hundreds of these cruising around in our small cities.👍
I think Chris has a press release regarding the order of eventual deliveries, but I think all the first accelerator vehicles will be picked up from CA, so I think the greater USA will be next, then Canada, then prob Europe’s.
The sentiment at 31:00 is so very important for the future.
Well I certainly agree! Thanks for commenting :)
350 mpg(e) is a higher estimate than they have offered previously. I'm wondering if there have been new simulations.
Under promise, over deliver. You don't want to get out too far ahead with your estimates. And the closer we get to the production model and testing, the more solid the number will get. And you're right, they have been running tons of simulations.
Yup, in fact Audra mentioned they were running more simulations and wind-tunnel tests through the summer. It's possible the drag-coefficient may improve still.
I think if you use the EPA method where one gallon of gasoline contains 33.7kWh of energy and assuming the aptera use 0.10kWh/mile of energy.
33.7kWh ÷ 0.10kWh/mile = 337mpg-e.
Audra's voice kind of sounds like Scarlet Johansson. 😍

Who is going to be the supplier for the lighting? Are they coming from Michigan I'm all in aptera no matter what. I see a bright light at the end of the tunnel for all the good people working for this beautiful new company.
Not sure about all their suppliers
Does the user app report the charge rate of the onboard charging system?
Great questions, Bryan. I’ll reach out to my contact at Aptera and see if we can get answers.
That factory has nothing in it. The automated robots "AGV's" simply are to move vehicles from station to station, but there are no stations, it seems like the money that has been raised should have purchased more than this by now. I love the car and the concept.
most of the body construction will arrive from Italy pre-assembled, so it's just furnishing the battery, drivetrain, solar, HVAC, etc in the CA facilities. Once they get funding I think turnaround will be about 9-12 months to purchase and install the rest of the equipment.
@@SavingGreenmy understanding is that the vehicle assembly time in CA will very fast. Something like 12 minutes per vehicle. 40 vehicles/day in and 8 hour shift.I think having the parts inventory is the major issues.
I am concerned about parking on the side of the street and hitting the curb as the wheel cover seems so low
It's just a bit wider than a standard car, but not wider than all cars. I think the wheel wells could get scraped, but I imagine they would be easier to replace than standard side moulding
If you blow a tire do you end up ruining that fender and is it difficult to access to take tire on/off
I’m not sure about the ease of tire replacement, butI think parts of the wheel compartment can disassemble for access.
My favorite is "sol." The front looks better and it's smaller than the new one.
You sure you wouldn’t want to take beta for a spin?! Haha agree sol is sweet, but delta is actually a better production design
This ain't no factory but an R&D building
Do you know how I could tour the factory?
I've been following Aptera since the first time they failed. I was also excited about Arcimoto, and we know how that ended. If it takes this long to get a prototype, volume production will be impossible. It makes you wonder if these companies actually plan on going into mass production, or if they just hype it up as much as they can to sell to a bigger company.
When are you rolling these out and beginning to produce your cars
My best estimate is Q3 2024 for first deliveries
Given how complex it is to integrate robotics into a production line, and I'm not seeing working machines in this video, there's a least 18 months of SI and bedding in still to go. Only a handful of VIP cars will be produced in 2024. Most of us won't see ours till 2025.
I retired from Michelin tire company. Have you approached Michelin, BF Goodrich, or Uniroyal to make an efficient tire?
I haven't personally, but many manufacturers publish data on tires rated for sustainability: rolling resistance, weight, fuel efficiency, and recyclability as you know
15:15 ohh you could have Imtermediate battery for solar to charge up, then Boost that Voltage to Charge the Mains 🤓 ❤
No need for an "intermediate" battery. Also, it's, overall, less efficient.
bob ,you know your stuff!!
@@SavingGreen Some say way more than I should! I'm a total nerd for solar.
How many MPPT inputs do you have. Is there one for each string or one for each surface?
I’m looking into this…
@@SavingGreen Great question while you have their attention is how would one custom made charge controller for the car arrays be capable of also managing a typical 18V external panel. To what W limit of the 18V panel? Are multiple 18V required for voltage control? Could a 35V residential panel be used?
Cam, effectively, said 3 MPPTs on hatch, 2 on roof, 1 on hood and 1 on dash so 7 total.
@@bobhilder1469 Wow, thank you. I really do appreciate the information and your effort..
Where is the low voltage battery stored on the Aptera?
Good questions. I’ll see if I can get an answer.
So when was this recorded?
About a month ago in early May 2023.
I’m extremely interested in purchasing a aptera , I have tried several time to contact the company at the California office….. no one answers the phone then it disconnects . I have again sent several texts to their customer service team …. Again no response. I am not on any social media platforms. So that is why I attempt other avenues to speak with a person. By no response I have to wonder what type of service they offer after a purchase of a vehicle . So far I am not impressed.
I think adding solar to a heavy vehicle won't do much, but what would, is adding a bunch to a semi trailer to power refridgeration.
Yeah there's definitely diminishing returns with solar on heavier vehicles, but the Aptera is pretty lean and svelt!
@@SavingGreen I really hope they make it into production, and they don't have big problems. Ever think about how much it has in common with a 2 seat sport car? 2 seats, carbon fiber body(the fancy ones), eye catching looks, sporty if you get the 3 wheel drive. What about Transparent Glass Solar Panels? Have they been in contact with the new solar glass companies? Also a solid state wind powered addition to the vehicle would be nice, it would look great as a spoiler.
Keep up the great work! I typically like eVTOLs, but this seems to be safe and cheap enough to be financially viable.
Interesting thought! Not sure if transparent panels could be in Aptera's future.
When "transparent glass" solar panels become efficient enough they would be a great choice for the rear hatch! If any "wind powered" apparatus slows the wind down, it would be a literal "drag" so likely not a good idea on a moving Aptera.
@@bobhilder1469 isn't reducing drag a good way of reducing friction and g forces attributed to passing through the medium of air? I propose a nanostructural array to aid in particle flow, which would also further reduce drag beyond just a solid state wind turbine. It could be applied like a nanocrystalline spray on hydrophobic coating for cars. I study drag reduction for torpedoes and wind tunnel effects, and suoercavitation works in air, based on pressure differentials of the medium, same with space, and the reason why light isn't a finite speed, its slower in air, and water, and space is a medium itself for particle effects.
@@extremechris9145 I probably could have been a bit clearer. Let me try this from a different angle. If the "solid state wind turbine" is mounted on Aptera and the intent is to use it while driving (creating electricity), won't it increase drag and tend to slow Aptera down like "regen" brakes do? I'm coming from a conservation of energy point of view. Now, if the vehicle was stationary and there happened to be a good, stiff wind, by all means deploy the "solid state wind turbine"!
@@bobhilder1469 Just like in f1, the rear wing could be adjustable based on usage. Plus many different wind tunnel tests would minimize such drag, as well as many locations could be used for its placement. Solid state wind is much better stationary, but if they went through experimentation processes, it could induce viability whilst in motion, despite the added drag coefficients.
