    I think this is the most exciting electric vehicle that’s nearing production. I hope they still plan to get a meaningful amount of charge from a 110 outlet. That is a game changer and will mean you can go anywhere and not have to worry about charging your vehicle.

    • @johnpaddock5238
      @johnpaddock5238 Před 6 měsíci +15

      It should be able to get 12-15 miles per hour on 110 outlets.

    • @JustWasted3HoursHere
      @JustWasted3HoursHere Před 6 měsíci +5

      I think that is still true, due to its light weight and high efficiency. A typical EV will gain just a few miles of range per hour of charging on 110V because they're heavy and not very efficient, but the Aptera would probably gain twice that in the same amount of time. How cool would that be to just carry an extension cord with you for emergencies?

What I see is a largely empty warehouse with some metal tables in it. After what, 22 years? On the other hand, he seems to have a fair amount of technical knowledge when he speaks. I dunno, I'm increasingly skeptical of this operation... but I'd love to be wrong.

    I'm glad to hear that Aptera is getting into the business of building solar systems for other products. It will give them another revenue stream and help keep the company afloat while they try to get funding for the EV. I wonder if it won't end up being as big of a business as their EVs, because once Aptera can demonstrate it working, a lot of companies are going to want to add solar charging. I foresee future RVs and campers having solar systems, and add-ons for a lot of other EV models.

    If you want to see how fiddly layering woven CF sheeting is, search out Koenigsegg's build/factory tour videos on YT - the overall impression is that they do not rush anything, layering up different weaves and thicknesses, baking each piece, and so on.
    But then again, the price of their cars is huge - those videos go a long way to showing why!
    Press-molding is a much more industrial method, and repeatable at volume.

    What I like about these guys is that they didn’t make the same mistake as the other EV manufactures are making currently. Which is making an EV that looks and weighs the same as a combustion vehicle. While electrons have much more power and efficiency than combustion our ability to store them is the problem so therefore, you have to think how else you can make your vehicle efficient to adapt to the current problem of storage efficiency. It’s always struck me that the vehicle needs to be aerodynamic. We keep making these stupid boxes that push a Schieszer ton of air. I know why they did it because people are resistant to change but with the right design and enough time people will adapt to the new.

    I had thought you could just use the power circuit to signal things on and off, but Tesla couldn't get past the noise on the circuit, so they put in the ethernet to switch things. Excellent signal to noise ratio, thanks, and much appreciated. As an IT guy I appreciate nerdy acronyms like MES - and to a lesser degree the far more common ERP - as that is telling ;-) As for future Q&A input: with the early Tesla models it was quite a problem to find out about defects, both from a B2C (user) and B2B (fleet owner) viewpoint. Customers had to scrape user forums to find out there was indeed a problem. Typically after market solutions we're magnitudes quicker in response than anything official. Also in light of Aptera's statements on right-of-repair it would be cool to learn more on how they look at this problem of capturing and disseminating operational feedback. Large fleet owners would want to influence resolution priorities of course and potentially you could recognize that as a revenue stream in your business model. Thx, Jan

    I originally ordered the 600 mile version, but I really just need the 400 as that is about how far I now drive in a day. I used drive further but I am now older and don't feel the need to drive so far anymore.

    I will say, depending on the steering wheel placement, not having a telescoping steering wheel could be a deal breaker if it isn't positioned optimally.
    The primary complaint with the family Prius is the steering wheel needs to stick out about 1.5" further to be in a neutral position not only for my arms (6' 1") but also my wife's (5' 3").
    It can make long trips uncomfortable.

    So Korean batteries shipped to Aptera where they will build the packs. Nice. This way they can test the cells before packaging build.

    Re 1:35 - what about directional headlights on the wheel pants given that the USS on them didn’t work out? Might help see around curves better. Ask Chris about that the next time you see him.

    Smart choice going with skinnier batteries than Tesla’s new ones. Those fat batteries are a nightmare for heat dissipation.

    I’m interested in their efficiency. I would use 30-40 miles of travel most days so I would never need to plug it in. Considering that level of efficiency I’m hoping they make the very smart move Tesla started with and give free fast charging or something like that. Considering most people wouldn’t need to use fast chargers regularly it would be both cheap and incentivize travel aka free marketing.

      I think Aptera is planning on selling them for an honest price. Paying for your electricity is a gimic that they don't need.

    I have a question. Would like to know some specifics about their off-road version. How off-road is off-road? Ground clearance, wheel skirt hight (you guys call the pants lol), improved shockers, impact upon efficiency/ range, optional tyresb(all terrain rubber?) Etc.
    Im sure you are across what needs to be asked (dont ask about towing lol)
    Cheers
