  • Here is a video of my first ride on a Harley-Davidson. I test rode the 2014 Dyna Low Rider FXDL. The "test ride" was actually a short group ride of 30 minutes under the supervision of the HD staff. It hasn't really allowed me to evaluate this bike. But I can share with you my first impressions about it, and about the Harleys in general.
    In my previous video, I have explained how I found myself riding this bike. If you haven't seen it yet, here is the link: • The Harley Davidson Ex...

    I have a 2008 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider. Love the bike. There is nothing like a Harley-Davidson. Nothing. I have had Yamaha's and Suzuki's in the past... rode Harley-Davidson Sportsters for almost 30 years. Am 61 years old now, and just love my Dyna Low Rider....

      Glad you're enjoying your Low Rider. I test rode a few Harley, and I've liked all of them. I wouldn't say they are better than the other motorcycles, but they are obviously different... They provide very special feelings.

    Hey Mr.Kiddo! Really enjoyed your video.My daughter served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Paris.My wife and I had the pleasure to pick her up there after her mission was complete in 4-12. I'm was 55 and the 1st time I left the U.S of A. My wife and I spent 10 days in France. A few days in Paris and a went north to visit Normandy. Omaha beach and the cemetery was a solemn experience for me. I got teary eyed. We were surprised how many motorcycles were on the road in March-April.The weather was a little cool but sunny. My sisters and I grew up on Honda 70cc and 90 trail bikes. My dad gave me his 1972 Honda CB350 and I rode that through high school. After graduation in 76, that summer, my uncle Neal threw me the keys to his new 76 sportster. 1000cc! "Take it for a spin". I got off big time! But I couldn't get off the bike. Tough to give the keys back! I've own 7H.D.s and 1 1977 Triumph Bonneville since. My daughters French is getting rusty and we want to get back to Pairee. We live about 60 miles north of Washington D.C. Come visit. Viva La France!

    The new Harley's especially from 2000 onward are excellent and dependable. I have an 09 Night Train and love it. The newer bikes priced very well, remember you are getting quality steel and not plastic. I was a Yamaha RD and RZ owner many times and graduated to Harley Davidson. Ride safe!

    • @MrKiddoMoto
      @MrKiddoMoto  Před 9 lety

      Thank you for your feedback, Dragan Marj! Lucky you, the Night Train looks great. You're right, the HDs are obviously very well-built and made with high-quality materials. It was obvious with the Dyna Low Rider that I test-rode. The only thing which makes me think it's overpriced is the huge price difference between the European and US markets. But maybe it's the fair price to pay for getting an American legend outside of the USA, and HD is actually selling a lot of bikes here despite these prices. Ride safe too! 😉

    • @draganm7823
      @draganm7823 Před 9 lety +2

      Actually I was not clear when talking about pricing, I should have been clearer, pricing in USA and Canada in my opinion is priced competitively but I agree with you, it is somewhat higher priced in Europe. It works both ways, European machines are higher priced over here also. Thanks and enjoy whatever you ride, it's enjoyment that counts and not what you ride. I rode RD and RZ 530 Yamahas and then the RZ500 and loved them, now it's the Harley , and I enjoyed all of them differently. Ride safe.

    Nice review. The brakes shouldn't have felt too soft unless they weren't bled properly. I just rode the same bike last week and had no problem stopping quickly with two fingers. Then again, it is a seven hundred pound bike and you were on wet roads. My complaint about it would be the stock shocks and fork springs being insufficient and excessive heat from the rear cylinder head. Ride safe.

    I've rode most brands of bikes for 56 years and liked my Harleys the best....though I miss my 1936 Indian 1500 Chief I rode in High School. The newer sleds are more dependable and don't leak much. Though I miss my 1999 Electra Glide I don't miss my 2008 1200 Sportster. It's not really for long trips. I really like my 2007 Dyna Super Glide 96 " cu, 6 speed. It handles well in traffic and on long runs....

    Salut Mr Kiddo! Oui effectivement Harley, c'est un monde à part dans la moto! Mais on s'habitue vite à ses différences! Les commandes manuelles, on s'y fait vite, la béquille, effectivement, il faut la maintenir au pied jusqu'à ce que la moto soit posée! À savoir qu'une Harley ne peut pas débéquiller, même en pente! La béquille rentre dans une gorge une fois la moto posée et est donc verrouillée! Pour les freins, le fait est que ça ne freine pas comme ailleurs, c'est vrai! En plus, les plaquettes d'origine sont dures et durent longtemps, mais bouffent aussi les disques! Des plaquettes tendres améliorent le freinage!
    Tu as durant ton essai, le défaut qu'ont tous les motards qui conduisent une Harley pour la première fois, qui est de monter et rester dans les tours! C'est une habitude prise sur les autres marques! Les moteurs Harley, n'aiment pas les hauts régimes! Ce ne sont pas leur domaine d'utilisation! Leur bonheur est en bas, dans le gras du couple!

    • @MrKiddoMoto
      @MrKiddoMoto  Před 8 lety

      Merci pour tes explications +Pedro Lanevert ! 😊 Même si je dis dans la vidéo que je ne me verrais pas conduire une Harley au quotidien dans Paris, il n'empêche que j'ai VRAIMENT aimé être au guidon de cette Low Rider. J'ai essayé d'autres Harley depuis (l'Iron 883, et surtout le Softail Deluxe ❤️), j'ai toujours eu beaucoup de plaisir ! Elles ont des particularités qui sont un peu déroutantes la première fois, mais je suis sûr qu'on s'y habitue très vite. Qui sait, peut-être que j'en achèterais une un jour... 😉

      That's how it feels! I was riding it and thinking: It vibrates a lot, but it's so cool. It's very heavy, but it's a bike for real men. The brakes aren't very strong, but I can deal with it... At the end, I loved this bike, and none of its downsides was really annoying to me 😊

    • @jupiteral8217
      @jupiteral8217 Před 7 lety +1

      I love the feeling of sitting down low "in the bike" so to speak. and when you get to cruising speed, a lot of the vibration levels off. I only weigh 140 lbs., so it does ride alot better with a passenger. I once had a BMW RT1150 police bike that had a high ground clearance and about a 31" seat height and it weighed 700+ lbs. too. At low speeds it was really a bear to handle. I couldn't put my feet flat on the road either when stopped and it was very top heavy. My low rider has about a 25" seat height, and it's wayyy easier to handle at low speeds because of the low center of gravity obviously. and it weighs only about 100 lbs. less than that Beemer. i'm much more sure of myself on the HD.

    C'est en bas que le moteur est le plus agréable! La distance linéaire parcourue par les pistons dans les cylindres est importante, du fait de l'architecture longue course, du moteur, donc quand les régimes s'affolent, les pistons, les bielles, les cylindres encaissent mal, et font de la limaille, et chauffent!... C'est comme les grandes jambes et les petites jambes! Pour marcher à la même vitesse, les grandes jambes font de grandes enjambées plus lentes que des petites jambes qui galopent en plus petites foulées pour suivre! C'est pareil!
    Les Harley sont construites pour durer! Et pour rouler loin et longtemps! Donc sans les tabasser, on les a pour une vie!
    Dommage pour le temps pourri effectivement! Sur le sec, quel régal!

  • @nicoroehr
    @nicoroehr Před 9 lety +1

    That's the thing with Harleys. Even if one can handle an R1 or ZX14R well, that doesn't mean he can handle a Dyna or Softail. But you get used to it after some days. And after a while it's awful to change back to a 'normal' bike...

    • @MrKiddoMoto

    I'm a sport bike / dual sport rider and I took a 2002 low rider out for a few hours yesterday (first time on a cruiser)....plenty of power, braking was horrible, turn in was better than expected, it doesn't inspire any confidence though. I would rather be back on my first bike (ninja 250 ) again even though it is much slower in a straight line. Just my opinion. Owned everything from dual sport to superbike, just don't like the big heavy cruisers.

    • @MrKiddoMoto
      @MrKiddoMoto  Před 8 lety

      For my daily use in the city, I also prefer the sport bikes. No hesitation. However I can still enjoy ridding a cruiser sometimes. They are great for cruising unhurriedly during the sunny summer days. Of course, you're right, they are heavy, have poor brakes and don't lean very well in the corners, but even if they aren't the safest bikes ever, it's up to their riders to adapt themselves. In France, the Harley riders are considered by the insurance companies as "safe riders", crashing much less than the others...

    Hello MrKiddo, did you consider riding a Sportster? I ride a 2000 Sportster 1200 custom. They are great for filtering and good on gas. Very nimble and nice low end torque for a small bike. Besides a 1200cc there is an 883cc as well, Harley makes a touring model also. The sportsters can have mid controls for those who don't like the forward controls. My Sporty came with forward controls and have gotten so used to it, it gives me this relax feeling when riding. Harleys have this unique vibe about them, they have this character of being alive. Now it's a far cry from a street bike, just a nice cruiser to enjoy riding on. Just a suggestion, RSMF

I agree with you, Harleys are very lively, and even starting the engine is magic... Ride safe 😊

      Mr.X Les coûts d'assurance peuvent varier énormément en fonction du profil du conducteur (âge, ville de résidence, historique d'assurance et bonus/malus, etc.) et de la compagnie d'assurance. Mr.X Bon déjà, jeune permis, première moto, une Harley Dyna à 15k€ n'est pas adaptée. Je doute qu'un assureur accepterait. Un Street 750 ou un Sportster 883 conviendrait mieux, et tu devrais être largement au-dessus des 1000 euros par an pour l'assurance. It's important to note that Harley-Davidson is the same price throughout the world. It's the taxes that kills the dream. I piss and moan about the 6% state sales tax we pay here in Maryland,and yet there never seems to be any progress. There are more expensive bikes than Harley. BMW and Ducati come to mind. Anyway, keep the shiny side up!

    • @MrKiddoMoto
      @MrKiddoMoto  Před 9 lety

      jw edgerly You're right! The taxes make the price differences. The VAT in France is 20%. In addition to that, there are customs duties that make the Harley more expensive here than the European bikes (BMW and Ducati), while this is the opposite in the USA!

      MrKiddo Bonjour Mr. Kiddo. Je m'appele Rachel et je suis la fille de jw edgerly. J'ai habité en France pour 18 mois- sur Valiencennes, Evry, Caen, et Villeneuve d'asque. La France me manque et j'adore les francais. C'est vrai que mon francais devient rouillé. Merci d'avoir parlé avec mon père! Il a bien aimé votre video!

    You shouldn't count on your turn signals all the time. It's much easier to use hand signals.

    Hey nice job ! I am interested in that bike so your comments are very informative. May I suggest a tip or two when editing your footage ? Please do not cut the sound when displaying text on that black background, very disturbing. And you might want to write your comments (those in yellow) in the bottom, instead of right in the middle. Just sayin'. Anyway, good work !

    • @MrKiddoMoto
      @MrKiddoMoto  Před 9 lety

      Thank you very much Jean Sam Denis, I'm glad you've enjoyed this test-ride. I take note of your tips, however I edit my videos like this for some reasons. Black screens come between differents shots (and so, different sound contexts). I actually enjoy these breaks, and wouldn't like to fill them with any music or jingle, I think it would be fussy according to my own tastes. I change my comment positions depending of the situation. It could be in the middle if I consider my comment is more important than the picture, as well as it could be in the bottom (or somewhere else) if I want the viewers to focus on the picture (or a special part of it). I wish you a lot of nice rides with this HD Dyna Low Rider if you finally buy it...

    These bikes are best used on big open roads. The western US. Australia. Argentina. New Zealand. Urban traffic. No thanks.

    • @MrKiddoMoto
      @MrKiddoMoto  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, you're absolutely right. However you would be surprised to see that many bikers actually ride them in big cities like Paris. I'm sometimes impressed to see them filtering in the traffic with those big bikes as if they were little scooters. Personally, I will keep my Honda for my everyday rides in the city, but I would be happy to rent a Harley for a road trip in the USA, Canada or Australia... 😎

    • @pattonlaughed8764
      @pattonlaughed8764 Před 6 lety +1

      Ive done in cities as well. But the Harleys love the big sweepers of the open west.Wyoming to Oregon on two lanes. You would love it. In town KTM dual sport twins are the best weapon I've run. Cheers.

    Une Harley, on aime ou pas. C'est d'abord un "état d'esprit". C'est sûr que tout le monde ne s'y fait pas, position différente, commandes avancées (généralement), moteur "coupleux"...
    Je souhaite que tu puisses renouveler ton essai, mais attention, tu vas être vite "contaminé".
    Pour les freins... Si tu freines t'es un lâche s'est bien connu. lol

      J'essayerai avec plaisir d'autres Harley quand j'en aurai l'occasion. À vrai dire, j'ai déjà bien aimé cette Low Rider, même si je ne me vois pas conduire ça tous les jours à Paris (certains le font sûrement sans aucun problème). J'aime bien toutes les motos et les différents plaisirs qu'elles apportent... Dans mon garage idéal, il y aurait au moins 3 motos, et l'une d'entre elles serait certainement une Harley (je garde le mystère sur ce que seraient les 2 autres 😉).

    Way too much bike for your skill--stop complaining and figure out the basis of the design and what the intention of the bike is built on--Harley has not survived for over 110 years on name only!!!

      I really wonder how the democracy in the US has survived 250 years with people like you that scorn the opinions of the others... That was just my 2 cents about this bike, explaining why I like this model, and also why I personally think it's not suitable with my needs. Is it too hard to understand for your tiny brain?
