So the mother didn't mention the sinkhole filled with human remains to anyone? Or to check people's faces with a mirror, she also could have mentioned to the old man that his wife didn't kill herself.
That's probably why the mirrors were covered, maybe a creature has taken his place and killed the woman
And risk being locked up in a mental home. No one would believe her. We saw it was difficult for the creatures to crawl through the hole, as well. If it becomes public knowledge and people try to excavate the hole, more of the creatures could escape, better to leave them trapped.

I like the ending. She made sure to just get out of there and start a new life. Didn't risk going to her friend, the doctor or the authorities who could have already been doppelgangers. Bunch of loopholes in the movie but i am not going to write paragraphs detailing them.
I'd have ran too. Who has time to go warn the neighborhood who may have been coexisting with those monsters all their lives? For all she knows they've been sacrificing newcomers' kids to those things to keep their own kids safe. Better safe than sorry.
@@byleemalox2265 Yeah people always say "What they would have done" blah blah. When in reality, its a get the absolute fuck out kind of situation. The character was very strong and very human, every move she made I could see myself doing and thats makes her a good character.

That's how you can tell it wasn't a movie made in America, if it was the mom would have got her son out and then went back to find a way to destroy the hole and all the changelings. Not sure what it is about American movies, but apparently we all have to be superheroes and save the entire city/town; even though every American watching is screaming "Don't go back in there, you dumb b****!!" 🤣

I’ve seen a movie similar to this but the mother who was suspecting her son to be an impostor was actually the impostor herself after living a human life for so long she kinda forgot what she truly was and was fully convinced that she was human.

Soooo , if I found a massive , massive sinkhole in the Forrest close to my home the first thing I would do is inform the authorities. I'm positive someone would be extremely concerned and study it. No fkng way they would just ignore it or not do anything. But this lady must come across huge sinkholes regularly.

I don't think Noreen even killed her kid. I think Des did to save HER, and she took the fall to protect her husband. The insanity plea is a sure thing for her. Des just couldn't put it all together, but probably caught their kid trying to off her for her suspicions.

Ohh that one S so good with an amazing twist .. „goodnight mommy“ (2014) in English. Its title is creepier in German „I see I see“ from the children’s game „I see I see what you don’t See“ that is an innocent game but In the context of a horror movie could make your SKin crawl 😅

I was expecting her to have accidentally have burned her son alive and the shapeshifter be in his place somehow. There’s so many plot holes I can see it ending that way without any police involvement.

Yeah that would be the more typical ending to many of those really. I was like oh so leaving the son after having got him. Yeah no, once you find him there and you’ve confirmed it’s him I don’t care how tired you are I would be taking him everywhere. You just escaped the sinkhole other ones could be after you. It wouldn’t make a ton of sense if the one in the basement got him unless they set it up that there was another way out or they had some ability to do that, she was able to defeat him even when it was off the sedative so they aren’t like punch heavy wooden doors in level strong. Course maybe the sedative was still weakening it at that point and by then might have wore off maybe, and the one underground might not have gotten it’s strength up yet hence why she could hit it like that but that’s all not confirmed. But any of the other ones in the woods or underground could have gotten him, and anyone in town but they don’t confirm if they can change size like that so far the only ones you know are the two boys who they were already the same size as. But that one looks like her, so many they can change that way as well. Either way I would be carrying inside to get the keys and to burn the place down.
Now one thing I did notice, and maybe this is left up to our interpretation, in her camera his face was always blurred. Maybe it wasn't her son after all 🤷🏼♀️

I read a book years ago about a doppelgänger. I can’t remember the name of it, but his mother (also a doppelgänger) abandons him after a certain age, which was normal. His true form was ugly. He ends up killing a super popular guy and stealing his girlfriend, lmao. But he tells her what he is and I think she accepts it. It was so long ago. I’d like to find that book now.

This kind of movie always ends up with the monster winning in a double cross, like creepy stare out of the window and a glimpse of it in the mirror but I'm happily surprised that this one ended well instead.

I think he was a skinwalker instead of a doppelgänger because skin walkers can take the form of anything but doppelgänger are basically someone that looks exactly like you and can’t change to another form.

What if there was a nasty twist at the end where she was driving away after setting the house on fire. Only to look in the rearview mirror and see that its still the shape shifter. Somehow it had got out and waited until she went inside to shove the kid in the basement and lock him in. So the kid calling for her was actually her real son.
I was thinking the same thing but the shape-shifter somehow managed to switch places with her son that was left by the car. As she drives off with the house being burned down, it shifts to the son as he wakes up looking at the mirror that is in fact the shape-shifter itself smiling in secret and the movie ends there. XD

How did asking if he wanted to play favorite game trick the alien? She’s been asking questions before and the alien just got mad and stormed out. Why couldn’t it do it there?
The previous questions were serious ones that led the doppleganger to believe she was trying to quiz him, asking to play a game wasnt as such as it seemed casual

Finally a lower budget movie with a smart and decent ending, usually they end as bad as possible because writers and producers think bad twists will be their claim to fame.
I'm all for bad twists and bad endings because they have me feel something, but I'd rather have an unpredictable ending than a bad one.
Hard to believe about the mirror trick. She would have seen her son through her car's rear view mirror.

Before her son was actually the real one but then when sus acts happened she never took chris to her house and it started when chris walked to the woods after getting mad then got pushed in the sinkhole by the creature which used his face to track what he probaly does which is accurate and so she never took the shapeshifter to the car at all
She got it broken off at the beginning of the movie and even had it in her basement. It's probably explained away in the movie, a recap wouldn't be a recap if it went over all the details.
With all the mirrors in the world, no one saw he was a shape shifter? No bathroom mirrors, no windows in his class? Smh.
So after finally saving her son from the hole, she just leaves him unattended again…

I loved every minute of that movie. I love movies like that. If you like fantastical elements strongly rooted in reality, you will appreciate watching this movie instead of watching recap.

This is a story inspired by the native British myths about fairies (the Aos Sí, Dhaoine Maithe, Tylwyth Teg, etc). Fairies are quite nice, in many stories, but they are known to steal children, and replace them with an "auf" (changeling). And the fairies live underground. Disney, and other writers, have given fairies a near-universal positive portrayal, but when you see stories like these, you can understand why the British Christians stamped out fairy worship. Some dark stuff behind the fun magic.
I realized why this plot was so familiar. Supernatural did a plot very similar like this for one of their episodes a few years ago. Changlings taking the place of kids and killing the dads while draining the mothers of their life force, back of the neck. Even the mirror showing the true appearance happens in the episode.
Moms are getting weaker and weaker, and one mom figures it out and tries to kill her daughter. Puts her in her car then let's the car go in a lake. When she gets back home, kid is sitting at the table soaking wet.

I actually think the oposite, sometimes i think is really dumb how they are always forced to end the whole deal and can't escape otherwise, its not realistic, if you were in a situation of life and death with super human creatures we as humans would definitely focus on our loved ones and own safety and escape as far as we could and at maximun notify someone later so it does'nt have a chance to affect and get to us in the future.

Would’ve been a lot better imo if the woman was actually an abuse victim and was getting nearly paranoid schizophrenic hallucinations of their own son going through puberty, and overmedicating both the child and self,as a coping process which makes things worse as they both will have lapse of memories and mood swings. I suppose that would’ve been too real of a story of cycle of abuse, for people to watch, idk I think relating horror movies to the atrocities of real life makes the scariest movies
