  • Baltimore And Ohio Railroad Train Station Is Destroyed By Fire! We See The Last Train That I Filmed Passing The Station & We See 2 Trains Passing The Station At The Same Time. CSX Owned The 1885 Station And Indiana And Ohio Railway Operates The Tracks On Both Sides Of It. Railroad Maintenance Of Way Equipment Is Seen Leaving The Station & Passing An Interesting Railroad Crossing Near Blanchester, Ohio. The train station is just east of Blanchester in the small town of Midland City.
The station actually lasted several years past the date that it was supposed to be torn down. Plans to demolish it were cancelled due to the virus a few years back. The area that it is located has had numerous structure fires over the years and it always surprised me that the vandals didn't target the station. I knew every time that I filmed it might be my last. If it didn't finally get torn down the vandals might hit.
This videos shows some of my favorite trains passing the station. I was here one time a few years ago when two trains passed the station at the same time. That had to be rare. Not many trains use either line. The Midland Sub that runs on the north side of the station only sees about 2-4 trains a day with half of them running in the dark. The Greenfield Sub runs on the south side of the station and is owned by the village of Greenfield, Ohio. It is somewhere around 26 miles long and short locals pass by on the Greenfield sub several days a week. These trains only have a single Geep and just a handful of cars.
The track east of Greenfield was removed in the 80s. Amtrak used this line in the late 70s and I rode Amtrak on it going to and from Orlando, Florida. I also rode the Chessie Steam Special past the station to Greenfield and back to Cincinnati in the late 70s. We rode an I&O dinner train from Midland to Greenfield and back somewhere around 1988 but I can't remember the actual year. We got our tickets from inside the train station. That is probably the last time that the train station was used for a passenger train. Regular passenger service stopped about 1956. If anyone can give me accurate information about this station please leave a comment and I will update the info.
The train station was reported on fire around 2am on January 1, 2024. It took 4 fire departments about 2 hours to put the fire out. I filmed this the next day.
There was a piece of maintenance of way equipment sitting on the track when I arrived. We see it start up and run west toward Blanchester. I chased it to a railroad crossing that uses the radio on 161.220 to notify the crew that the crossing gates are activated and it notifies them when the gates are deactivated. We hear the transmission on my radio as it deactivates. Have you ever seen a crossing like this? We also see the Greenfield local leave Blanchester and go past the station on its way to work Huhtamaki in New Vienna, Ohio. This line also has Candle Lite in Leesburg and Adient US in Greenfield at the end of track. The last mile or so of track is actually a small piece of Detroit, Toledo & Ironton track that runs north to Adient US.
See my Indiana & Ohio Railway playlist for more videos on this line. I have some great videos of the Greenfield Sub including railroad switching at Candle Lite in Leesburg. I have videos that show the switchback track in Greenfield, the low bridge there over a public road and the giant railroad bridge over Paint Creek.
Filmed Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Sad to see the old passenger station reduced to ashes. It was a good job you recorded it for future generations to get to see what it was like last year. I suppose it's better than watching it slowly fall down and maybe hurt someone but it is a lost piece of railroad history now gone for ever.

Yeah, it was in pretty rough shape. The last time JT featured it you could see holes in the floor in places and there was a kids bike laying on the ground next to it. I'm a Dad and Grandpa so you can imagine what was going through my mind.
I wonder how this fire got started, maybe even who started it.

It is always sad to see a piece of our short national history disappear. The trains were an essential part of the development of the US to the superpower we are today. So many memories lost. Very glad you have it documented on video so many times, sir. Hello, from Brownsville, TX

Sad to say one knew it was just a matter of time until that depot met its end. Thanks for the review of trains of the past that rolled by it during better times. Indeed between rail fans the maintenance equipment and the local it was like a mini funeral service. As for live action Loki the youngster had best heed the sage wisdom of senior dog Brandy

Sad to see another piece of the past disappear. Looks like once the debris is cleared quite a bit of old brick will be left. Perhaps something nice could be built to note the history. On a personal note I rode the Amtrak between Athens and Cincinnati a couple of times in the '70. Keep up the great work!

I watched 1960Gambit's video of the burned out Midland train depot. According to him, this was an act of arson on New Years Eve. I watched your video when you filmed the inside of the depot back in October 2023. What a shame that they burned it to the ground. It was due to be torn down anyway. It was in horrible condition. Your video was better than 1960Gambit's video, because you went further in depth about the depot than he did.

That building was beyond hope for many years. Sadly, it has been a tinderbox sitting there for years. Not surprising an arsonist burned it down. CSX should have dealt with that building, one way or the other, a long time ago. That piece of MOW equipment doesn't sound too healthy.Stay Safe Brian.

It's wonderfully engaging to read your history of using various trains on that line over many years. What road is that "LTEX" power heading that October 2023 train ahead of the IORY #4490? JT. I worked for the old B&O back in the sixties and early seventies as a tower operator. Used to run trains from Newark to Cincinnati down the C&N division down to Midland and on to Cincinnati. They were 102 & 104 East bound 85 & 97 West bound. They would stop in Columbus at the Fifth Ave yard or what was East Columbus tower where I worked. The old NY tower burned down in about 1988. It was vacant at that time. No cause was ever determined but was thought to be arson.

Great tribute to the old station. 10,000’s were served over the 100+ years it was active. The jumps between this week and a couple months ago is epic use of the medium. You have a keen sense of balance in your presentation and editing. Without a doubt you’ve become my favorite youtube channel. Relaxing, no stress, and no narrative over the train sounds. I love when you ‘sell’ the video with “this is going to be a good one” or “that was a good one!” Never a negative other than waiting 3 hours for a train. Whatever drives you, keep up the passion! The 5 hour holiday present was fantastic! Thanks. I split it into 3 hr then 2hr. I watched and enjoyed every minute. You’re the best, JT. ‼️🌞✔️🌝 🇺🇸

Thank you for your video on the demise of the old depot in Midland, Ohio. It was a shame that the old depot had to go that way. I hope that the ruins of the depot are removed quickly so they do not sit around for a long time. That was a long train that you caught going past the smoldering ruins. That piece of maintenance of way equipment appeared to have two magnets on it. Usually, you see a magnet of that size on a self-propelled crane.

Your 1956 date refers to the last passenger train on the traditional Midland branch Columbus to Midland City, then on the Ohio Division main to Cincinnati. It was eastbound on July 21, 1956. B & O passenger trains on the main line passed by here from Cincinnati to Chillicothe to Parkersburg, Washington DC, etc. They ran until the start up of Amtrak, April 30 1971. AMTRAK Shenandoah used same route from October 31, 1976 to September 30th 1981. While CSX stillowns a couple of other buildings along these lines, Midland City station was owned by Village of Greenfield.

The squeal of the wheel flanges rubbing the inside rail, on the Oct. 18th vid is horrible, but music to my ears at the same time. That was a long train, considering only 2 power units upfront .. and most of the cars were loaded except for the tankers, according to spring compression. I loved hearing the radio exchange on your scanner, too .. And though the station was already doomed, it's a damn shame to see that it went the way it did .. and no one will be held accountable.. I love your signature wave and swipe timed perfectly to the music at the end of each vid ... good stuff, JT, thanks.

Piece of crap vandals. That station shoulda been a protected landmark. Even in disrepair. It was a beautiful station

Loved the tribute. Looks like the firefighters didn't completely put out the flames. Loved watching Brandy and Loki going at it over a piece of trash. Brandy is getting grumpy.

bummer that piece of history has been lost. great vid. the pup segment has me asking Q: what is the breed of your newest pup? a replacement is possible here for my now 13 yr old lab. she lost her smaller older companion last week. the place is just not the same without two four leggers running, well at their ages, walking around. seeing your new one and the older one playing was so sweet and a tear welled up as our loss so recent. that breed looks like a good match for us. keep up the great work and stay warm.

Shame to see such great piece of history go away to bad it couldn't be saved and restored

That is really sad as i remember you covering an not often used rail line and the facility in much need of some TLC. But abandoned, a great facility which i commented that would be a nice place to buy and look at the trains go by and had s magical outlook as scenery goes😄

Sorry about that stupid happy face, got itself in there somehow, because that is a real piece of railway history that could have been sold off to somone to formulate a rail fan club to man at amy time or ones oen personal home if your love for trains does not end you up in the divorce court with your wife.
      Really nice video.

Yes, true. I'm going to miss that station. The photography won't be the same without it. That would have been a great place for a Railfan to live. CSX owns it though

That's sad that it took 4 fire departments to destroy it. 🤦‍♂️ 1800 gone in a spark and a splash. 🤷‍♂️ thanks for your all you do.❤

This sucks. I saw that it was a station from 1885, and I immediately thought of the one in Brooksville, Florida. I didn't grow up around that station, but it would still piss me off if somebody tried to burn that down. I hope 1960Gambit's video has some evidence that can convict the arsonist.
