Train Waits On Main Line For 2 Trains To Pass On Siding & Ancient Rock RR Overpass, 1899 Rail In Use

- 3 Trains Converge On Camden Ohio, Longest Train Waits On The Main While 2 Shorter Trains Pass On The Siding In A Row! 2 Of The Trains Knock Down The Signal: Dropping To Red As The Train Passes, 1899 Rail Still In Use With Close Look. 5 Norfolk Southern Trains, 1 CSX Train & RR Crossing Replacements Close Look.
These trains are in Camden, Ohio and Seven Mile, Ohio on the Norfolk Southern Railroad New Castle Sub. We start in Camden where a long Norfolk Southern Railroad double stack intermodal train is waiting for 2 trains to pass on the siding. Both trains pass and we see the signal drop from green to red. I hope by now that most of my viewers know the railroad jargon of "knocking down the signal".
Minutes after the second train passes, the longer train on the main finally comes across the railroad crossing and heads east toward Cincinnati. This train hurries out only to have to stop at 7 Mile, Ohio to wait for another train.
Next we see an ANCIENT ROCK OVER PASS! This is a really cool find. It is between Camden and Eaton, Ohio on this same line. The train passing over it is westbound toward Indiana.
Then we go to 7 Mile, Ohio to watch a fast westbound train hit the railroad crossing and pass our first train that is sitting once again. This time the train is dead due to the crew out lawing. A transport van picked up the crew and took them away. This train is blocking 2 driveways although one of them does have another way out.
We see the railroad crossings that CSX was working on in Hamilton, Ohio and one that NS was working on north of 7 Mile. The crossings were closed to vehicle traffic so I took a close look. Check out the CSX local freight train doing yard work and shoving a long cut of cars. That was pretty cool and some of the graffiti was interesting also. This is actually Part 2 for the video that I made of Eaton, Ohio. The steam train at the end is from my trip to Iowa. That is the Empress steam locomotive on the Final Spike Steam Tour. We had our spots all figured out 30 minutes before the train came. The folks from Trains Magazine were the next ones down behind me. At the last moment the guy walks out and took pictures. We thought we were going to get a clear shot here. We still got some great footage though. Thanks for watching my videos! God Bless and have a great weekend!
Filmed Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

What a clean, beautiful town. Looks like a movie set !
Yes, I agree it does have some nice areas near the tracks. I wish it wasn't so far away
Thanks Jawtooth for today’s awesome videos from Ohio. I love the mixture of trains, rail-related geography and history commentary. Great job, thank you.
Lot of history with the steel plants first introduced in 1857 as North Chicago Rolling Mill then moved to the southside in 1889 merged with 3 other steel mills called Illinois Steel by 1901 was under control on U.S. Steel..the 1970s downsizing bcz shifting markets of steel. At its peak employed over 20,000. In 1992 closed. Solocup purchased in 2004 to construct a factory later dropped it. 1 smalled building left for docking. Now called the lakeside development a new park with wood chips etc.and in 2011 Dave Mathews Band hosted a caravan with a 3day festival with numerous bands and artists where over 100,000 people attended. Crazy history as decades go by. Thanks JT for the video nice steamer and the new kitty!
Wow, thanks for all that information! Have a great weekend!
@@JawTooth no problem JT you as well!🙏🌎🎛
@@JawToothit's the trains but it's everything else that makes your videos great
The Illinois Steel Company was an American steel producer with five plants in Illinois and Wisconsin. Founded through a consolidation in 1889, Illinois Steel grew to become the largest steel producer in the United States. In 1898, several other steel and transportation companies were merged into it to form the Federal Steel Company, itself merged into U.S. Steel in 1901. Hope this answers your question Jawtooth.
There were massive coils of steel in a gondola and three flat car loads of heavy plate steel toward the rear of the train. Thank you for catching those, JT! Some of my all-time favorite freight. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth It's my pleasure! 😄😄😄🤎🤎🤎
The bridge over the creek and old road tunnel are definitely model railroad inspiration. Nice EOT DPU and FRED on the autorack train. Great action and info on this one, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!
Thanks 👍
I am sure that the original construction dates back to horse and buggy days.
@danielulz1640 probably correct.
Not much head room.
Very good viewing and TY 👌
Fairly short trains but lots of action. Real interesting locations. Two days without the rooster crowing - I’m worried! That kitty has lots of energy. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Uh oh I forgot to add him. Lol. So many things I try to work in the video that I forget when I get in a hurry at 3am. I might have forgot to add him in the video for tomorrow also, not sure. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting!
There are beautiful old buildings downtown! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
I think so too!
I love our great state of Ohio.
Its a good state for trains!
Excellent catch, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day.
Thanks for being here so fast Ivan! Have a nice day also
Have an awesome Sunday!! ✨
Thanks for the visit and you too Dave!
This was one of my great escape spots 20+ years ago. The speeds have been reduced for safety reasons but traffic towards
Hamilton was an almost 20 miles of downhill and the ice cream depot was the halfway mark. Trains would roar past doing 60+ with 3 and sometimes 4 trains an hour. Talk about a thrill
That is a beautiful old overpass bridge. And the rail from 1899 is the oldest I've ever seen! Those are both so cool 😎, JT! 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Here comes the "Westbound #9"! A classic train song! 🎵🎶🎶🎵
Cool, I will look that up
I love the food at the rail road crossing in Camden. Ice cream is good too!!
It really is! I ate there once and sat outside on one of their tables. Great place
Thanks for another great video JT. The trains were very nice. Interesting stuff going on around there. I liked the little bridge and new kitten Tom. He sure likes his toy! Take care and stay safe. ❤

Some interesting freight on the trains. Great captures here. Tracks need repairs once in awhile. Loved those NS trains. Thank you so much for recording them. 😊wow four locomotives at the end of a train? I didn't know you added a new addition to your fear baby family. That little kitten is so so adorable. We saw her on our Roku TV yesterday. Congratulations and harmony with the other fur babies.❤😊Thanks.
Again a great way to start the morning. Thanks 😊!
Good morning!
JT now that was an awesome video my friend I liked the IM sitting on the main waiting on the other two to pass him on the siding. That was pretty cool but anyway, my friend you try to stay cool out there and hydrated and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
Thanks 👍. Have a great weekend Timmy!
Thank you for the fantastic video, JT! I enjoyed it very much. All of the trains were on the short side, but that's okay. Every one was a good one. I love seeing Tom's antics, but don't forget the others. We love them, too! We'll chat later on. 😄😄😄😄😄❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
@@JawTooth You're quite welcome, JT! 😚😚🤎🤎
Thank You Jaw Tooth, kool trains and pets as always! Excellent naritive too!
Thanks for watching!
Hey jaw tooth lucky catch of 3trains. Interesting how train waited on main instead of siding. Should double track whole line. No waiting for trains to pass each other if double tracked. Nice little tunnel. Kitten is very active. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
Thanks for the education JT👍🇺🇸
I don't know much but your welcome!
Usually the waiting train us in the siding . I dont think ive ever seen the waiting train on the main , and the though traffic using the siding as a main before. Really neat Brian ! Your the best !! 1899 rail still in service after 125 years !? Wow. Congrats on your new kitty Tom Cat ! Hes got a good family that will love him very much . ❤😺🚂
Thanks for your kind comments Vincent!

The track laid here in 1913, in northeast Montana, that the Soo Line (Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad) was the Illinois Steel Co South Works and has a date stamp of 1892 with 9 hash marks and is stamped 7202 before it. Assuming it is 72 # rail. The inactive part of the track west of Westby, Montana to Whitetail, Montana still has that rail. Watching your videos made me look at it and take pictures of it. The Flaxton, North Dakota to Whitetail, Montana sub has updated rail to a few miles west of Westby to handle 100+ covered hopper car unit trains of grain which originate in my hometown of Westby, Montana.

That narrow railroad overpass is an awesome place there, Brian. I have seen a few of them in and around lima. They are very narrow there, too.

Hello jaw . Well that a busy place 👍🏻😎Robin out
It sure is. Thanks for watching Robin!
That was rolled in the old South Chicago Mill. At one time Illinois steel was the largest steel producer in the US. Company was founded in 1898 with the merger of 5 steel companies.
Thanks for the info!
Duck duck goose... the new kitten has his toy.
Yes, he didn't know what to think

Hello Jawtooth what a great video you filmed in especially during this weather humid keep being cool and drink some water
Thank you, I will
Great catches and awesome video
Thanks Lashenda!
Another great video JT. I was very interested in the old rail on that siding. On the North York Moors Railway towards Grosmont, until being re laid a few years ago, there was a section of track over a quarter mile long that was relaid during World War 2 which had rails of bullhead design 95lb/yard that had the wording "L. N.E.R. CHICAGO ILLINOIS USA , and dated in the early years of the war. It was in 39 ft lengths which is a length not normally used in the UK as 30,45 or 60ft was the standard. The sound of trains coming down the bank, which is 1 in 49 or approx 2%, was totally different to the usual rhythm of British trains.
Sadly it has now been replaced by cwr in one long length and in concrete sleepers (ties) with flat bottom rail.
I believe that the US rolled rails were made specially for the LNER and were made by a rolling mill in Chicago which only made 39ft rails for the USA market.
Those rails had a long life of over 80 years and would still be fit for use in sidings!
Thanks for the information Rod! Very interesting. I found some track with 1898 stamped on the rail but I haven't been lucky for a train on it yet. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!
Always enjoy your videos. Loved that EOT.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi Brian

That arch structure is the Norfolk Southern Consolidated Road Overpass. Located in Preble County, Ohio south of Eaton. Constructed in 1880 for the Eaton & Hamilton Railroad (E&H).
Thanks for the info 😊
Thank you for this video of the second part of your railfanning on 9 July 2024. This portion of your 9 July 2024 railfanning took place in Camden and Seven Mile, Ohio. It was interesting to watch the two trains taking the siding to pass the double stack train which was sitting on the mainline. You showed us the manufacturer and date of the rail on the siding in Camden, Ohio which was made by Illinois Steel South Works. Here is a link to information on Illinois Steel and South Works in Chicago, Illinois: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Works. That was an unusual bridge that you found in Seven Mile, Ohio. It looks like it is a one lane road. It looks like that road crossing that is going to be rebuilt using rubber pads rather than wood timbers of asphalt. I noticed a pile of rubber inserts at 15:10 in the video. (Posted 12 July 2024 at 1449 CDT.)
Interesting on Illinois Steel, per the web:
Founded through a consolidation in 1889, Illinois Steel grew to become the largest steel producer in the United States. In 1898, several other steel and transportation companies were merged into it to form the Federal Steel Company, itself merged into U.S. Steel in 1901.
Looks like they rolled that rail one year later.
They were specific to the rail industry Brian, located in SE Chicago at the jct of the Calumet River and Lake Mich. (Now totally vacant acres) They also held interest in several rail lines.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing👏
The "passing Loop" as the Aussies call it was to short, so the long train had to sit on the main.
Yes, exactly. I filmed one where they stuck out on the main and blocked the road waiting for the shorter train to go into the siding. Did you see that one yet?
Would like to see the tracks switch over sometime! Nice video Son!
Noted!
Good Morning Brian & the railfans... Let's roll..
Good morning Jon!
Good morning
Good morning!
That Thomas the Tank Engine graffiti on the covered hopper is amusing. Certainly not something you'd normally expect. I wonder how they feel about it in the UK.
I would grade it a B. Needs more detail Lol
Awesome video Enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Boa tarde🌄🐶🐶🐶🐱🐱🌺
Thanks for watching!
Norfolk Southern Consolidated Road Overpass. Built in 1880. See link below.
Thanks for the info! I knew it was going to be historic but wow! 1880 and still in use by main line trains. That is how its done!
😅nice rebuilding RR crossing,i see the hard rubber plates from strail, good thingking.😅
Yes, they are a lot better and smoother. I just got home from a Bob Seger tribute band concert. It was awesome
Check out Shawsheen Mass. there was one that the B&M crossed over . That was 70 years ago , we lived just up thr hill from the depot and that overpass was just outside of town.
Cool, I haven't been over that far east. Thanks for watching!
That 29A is one of the regular trains down here in Tennessee. It is the most important train on the line. They will stop A train 50 miles away for this one. And it also carries manifest cars to through here so not sure if it picks them up in Cinncy or where
Illinois Steel Company became part of US Steel. South Works was in Chicago.
thanks for watching!
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! ✨✨👍🙏
Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth You're welcome. Have a great day!
Quick update on the diamond replacement in Greenwich. It is scheduled for this Monday the 15th around noon. I was out there yesterday, both the cranes are in place, a huge pile of stone, back hoes, front end loaders, etc. Foreman said if all goes well, could have 1st train through in about 5 hours once they start.
Thanks for the info! Not sure if I can make it but thanks for letting me know. Good morning and have a great weekend!
Good shot of the train on the stone bridge. I don't care for train graffiti, but Thomas was pretty good. The guys taking the pictures didn't interfere too much, the train still was the main attraction. Thanks for the video.
thanks for watching! I just found that stone bridge by chance. I will return there for sure
Good video Jawtooth
Thanks James!
Reminds me of the stone bridge on blue bluelick rd in Lima.
I would love to film that one. It's only 9 foot 5 inches in the middle. My plan is to stay over night up there at the motel where you can see the tracks. There are so many different places to film that I need a whole week Lol
AWESOME VIDEO MATE
Thanks!

As far as I can find out, the Illinois Steel Company was located in South Chicago, Illinois. It was bought out by U.S. Steel & Carnagey Steel & after the steel workers rioted, for better working conditions & higher wages, it was phased out. There is a park where it stood now.
thanks for the info!
Very late watching..but a great video as always!
Thanks for watching!
The "South Works" steel plant closed(South Chicago) in Jan. 1992. (1882-1992)
That is a neat tunnel under the track.
I just found it by chance. I wish I knew something about it
Republic, Ohio has very similiar overpass.
I'm not criticizing, but none of these were very long, but they were all good. Maybe this is just a short train line. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I don't know why they were short that day. I have filmed some 2 mile long trains on that line. On that day they had been doing work at the crossings and the line was shut down half the day. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. It was unusual though for them all to be short
@@JawTooth That's alright, JT. I prefer longer trains, but shorter ones will do. 😊😊
It would be especially cool to witness the siding-switch to switch for the waiting train to come out. 🙂
I would like to catch that. The other day one started moving but I couldn't get my camera on in time
@@JawTooth What's really cool is watching the changing of track switches on the Swiss rack-railroad lines that have the rack of gear-teeth in the middle between the two outer rails! 🙂
My goodness sitting outside with a cup of Java a premium hand rolled stogie and Mr. 🦷 and 🚂, does it get any better than this! No way baby….👍
The best! Thanks for watching!
There is a similar underpass off old 90 in Columbus Texas.
Awesome 😊
Illinois steel company was in south Chicago back in the day. Cool underpass
Thanks for watching!
I've seen several of the old narrow railroad under passes in West Virginia and Kentucky. The one bridge over pass that comes to mind is located on the Big Sandy River road between Ceredo/Kenova and US52.
I will look that up and see if I can find it. I like seeing that kind of stuff. Thanks for watching!
I think I just found it. It says 1924 on it from the Google Street View. I will film that one
Cool.
Thanks for your support!
NS calls east end Camden Prebble and the west end of the siding Barnett. It’s been a while since I’ve been out to Camden. I’ll have to get back out there again soon! If you want, go to the east side of the tracks and the view is great! It’s a nice open field. You’re probably filming into the sun though because it’s the later afternoon into the evening! I enjoyed the video on the New Castle District! Hope to see you around!
Hello there Simon! Thanks for your comments and thanks for watching! I will see you out there somewhere
Illinois Steel Company was either a US Steel subsidiary or a Carnegie steel subsidiary.
There are many of those beautiful bridges along US 14 in north west Chicago, former CNW commuter line.
We have a beautiful bridge like this in Dexter MI built about 1881
Cool and thanks for watching Robert!
That stone bridge looks similar to one near me, on the P&W branch from Plainfield to Willimantic here in eastern CT. I can get you a picture, if you'd like.
Thanks for watching!
