  • He usually doesn't like a nice quiet walk. So we do this sometimes. It's great exercise and as long as you keep it to a shorter time. Since we're moving on asphalt I limit these to shorter sprints so he doesn't get any injuries from it. If only I had off-road skates, that would be perfect!

    I wanna try this with my dog so bad but his pray drive is high. He’ll go after anything that moves in the bushes. Jumps like a fox and pounces. He’s a border collie so maybe smart enough to learn but seems a little suicidal to try and expect him to know what to do

    • @UnderFortyYards
      @UnderFortyYards  Před 2 lety +2

      Start slow, maybe start on a bike just to test how he reacts. At least you'll have a bit more control.

      @@UnderFortyYards good tip. And I’ve got thousands of hours on bikes. And haven’t bladded in 25 years.. I thought I’d pick it right back up but when I put them on in the store it felt like the first time. Im sure it’ll come back but adding a dog in the mix is not a good idea. After I get good again…

      I'd be nervous with a big dog too. I've tried this with my mini Schnauzer and that's about as intense as I'd like to get :P As long as your dog listens to you when you say stop/slow, maybe it could work in an area with a long road and few cars/people, ie. on a paved country road or a park late at night.

      Definitely train the dog before getting in the skates.

    • @animalobsessed1
      @animalobsessed1 Před 4 lety +4

      massimo collu Grab onto a nearby tree. That’s how I started, before I learned to use my brakes. Alternatively, if there are no trees/fences/road signs you can grab onto, but if there is enough space, you can use your momentum to skate in a circle or curve, and pull the dog with you. It’s not exactly stopping, but it will prevent the dog from going where it shouldn’t.

    Hello! Do you mind me asking what kind/brand of harness you're using for your dog?

    • @UnderFortyYards
      @UnderFortyYards  Před 6 lety +1

      Robin D The harness was just an inexpensive department store variety.

    • @kendraelliott5649
      @kendraelliott5649 Před 4 lety +2

      I would not recommend that harness for any joring type activity. Please invest in a proper harness to prevent injury to your dog.

    • @bitchhp2973
      @bitchhp2973 Před 4 lety +1

      I’d always recommend an x-back harness or a harness made for digs to pull safely(like a front range or similar design).

      Only if he's pulling ,can't be easier when on wheels for him and I. But yes there are much better harnesses out there.
