Hunting Dog Training with Vizsla

  • A little weekend training session at my hunt club. The club has pigeons available for use in the field which makes training easier. I only wish I had some automatic bird launchers. As you can see my Vizsla is not steady to wing but he's improving on steadiness in general which for a part time trainer like me is just fine.

    A thousand years of breeding in action. Beautiful breed!

      A thousand years of good working dog breeding can be destroyed in one or two bad matings. The show ring is the biggest destroyer of working dogs.

      +HuntingIL Absolutely, hope you had a good off season.

    A good off season for sure. I am planning on videos this year. Last year I just never got around to it. My dogs are looking good, but I want it to cool down fast. The grass at the club is tall and thick. Looks like I will need the beepers on them for early season. It's only like two weeks away. I will wait until it cools down though. Dogs overheat way to fast to risk it. A couple of extra weeks and it will be safe. If I get out early it will just be for training with a few birds

    Is using live birds normal? And using a shock collar? Wtf 🙄🤮🤬😠

    • @UnderFortyYards
      @UnderFortyYards  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes the live birds are normal, they have a great life and are well fed. Shock collars are not for punishment, they are for correction of behavior and are very mild as well as they are simple devices and very effective in dog training for ethical hunting.

      @@UnderFortyYards I wouldn't put one of those anywhere near my V! Positive reinforcement only for her 🤗

      @@kinkysplash5390 It's rare to use stimulation but it can save a dog's life if you need it (traffic on roads, barbed-wire fences, steep drop-offs). Unwanted behavior can quickly be corrected with mild stimulation. The tone is the #1 feature and prevents from having to blow a whistle in the field. A silent hunt is better IMO. But yes Vizsla's are sensitive and you have to take care, my GSP is a different story, he's a bit more hardy.

      @@UnderFortyYards that makes sense then💙. I was mistaken thinking you used it for shocking them sorry. Shocking them is awful for so many reasons and doesn't work because the dog won't understand what it's being punished for.

      @@kinkysplash5390 No problem, thanks for listening to the explanation. Not many take the time to hear the reasons. As a V owner you already have a great appreciation to the breed! Great dogs.
