- HP Umpire Carlos Torres ejected Red Sox manager Alex Cora for arguing a strike three call to batter Trevor Story located at the top of the zone. Report: www.closecalls...
- Sport
We had my official “Getting our money’s worth” counter going today. We got two in one video. We are at 6 this season
You’ll see about 2 Alex Cora ejections per year. Doesn’t get heated much but when he does it’s a guaranteed ejection.
Dude's lucky to even have a job in MLB. He was the Typhoid Mary of sign-stealing scandals.
@@watchman1178 also can't keep politics out of the game.
HP Umps have been really good this year. Umpscorecards has data on calls in the last 7 years, and in that time there has never been a perfectly called game. Though there have been 17 games where only one pitch was called incorrectly. 3 of those have been this year with 2 happening on the same day. In contrast, the worst called game this year was by Gabe Morales, but that was only the 272nd worst game.
Batters forget that the round ball can hit any part of the strike zone its a strike even if most of the ball is outside the strike zone
Has the "Money's worth" sound already achieved Meme- Level?
Cora had me DYING LAUGHING!!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a good call. Top of the zone. It's a strike all day.
Agreed and any pitch that hits the edge and corners of the strike zone is considered a strike in my opinion. Besides Alex Cora sucks and so do the entire Red Sox lol
Can we all just appreciate how awesome Dylan Cease's mustache is?
If calls were inconsistent I can understand people getting frustrated, but it seems that Torres has been calling that pitch a strike the entire game. Plus all of the computers agree with this pitch being called a strike.
Cheater Cora shouldn't be arguing ANY calls!
Love the announcers - yelling at someone for doing his job correctly - ‘makes you feel good.’ And we wonder why there is a shortage of officials.
Poor Cora Stressed Out!.. Tampa, Toronto , New York Ahead. ✍🏻🧐
It's still early, but wow Bosox don't look good.
Best value in the world is an ejected MLB manager, always “gets their moneys worth”.
lol yah
Smart move by Cora, get out there to take attention off one of your best players so they don't get run, underrated side of managing
It was a strike why get upset? He swings at 2 balls and watches the strike. And protecting one o their best players? I mean time will tell but Story is almost JBJ like so far this season. .196 Avg. no homers and only 10 rbi's. He might turn it around but this is the risk of signing Colorado players who play half their games in Colorado's thin air. Also speaking of JBJ, really could use Hunter this year at least he has power. Dumb trade, and I like JBJ.
Does the k zone adjust for height between batters because that looked high to me
I think they try to. I know they have had issues with the automatic zone and getting it adjusted up/down, but I'm not sure if they are using the same data for the kzone box.
Fwiw, I think he get the call right. It's on the edge of the zone, and that's what makes it a great pitch.
Cora was looking for the trashcan
Maybe a sound effect for "upstairs" is next in order.
If the ball is touching the box in any way. That technically is a strike. Even if the ball is out of the box. If the ball is touching the box at all. That is a strike.
I was watching this game on the Chisox's feed.
Once you saw Alex clapping at Carlos with no ejection, you knew it had to be Alex, lol,
View from the side isn't the best, it's from below the top of the zone so it makes strikes look high. Same sort of angle from standing in the dugout.
I was at this game seeing the pitch that struck out Story I thought was tough to tell.
Haha, MLB is getting so bad that players and managers now argue strikes being called strikes..........wow
That was not a strike. Watch the side view of the pitch in the video.
@@elohellol8481 You need to learn the strike zone.
Hilarious that this whiner got kicked out for arguing a call the Ump got right. It was a great pitch
There's something about Torres' ejection mechanic that just makes me smile. The lack of follow through makes it feel like he's just lightly depositing the guy out of the game. As if to throw a paper ball while calmly stating, in a voice just over a whisper, "yeet."
The umps do miss calls, but when these guys argue about pitches that are strikes they look like they're trying to blame someone for their problems. What are they going to do with robocalls?
They'll still yell at the PU for not "overruling" the computer.
I hope players/coaches apologize to umpires in situations like this, after the fact.
only if the umps did the same thing. Ump Bellino did yesterday, but, that is a very rare thing.
@@Briansgate bellino had no choice he was viral
Question: was the umpire calling this high strike for both teams? If he was, then Cora really hasn't a beef with it. All they want is consistency. For both and not just one.
Calmest ejection of the year?
Other than d Martinez getting run while on crutches last year, servais is my ejection crush ha
Cora's on the board!
Doesn't "...and then some" warrant a jackpot sfx?
Kulpa get the heck out of there. Torres wasn’t being physically attacked or outnumbered. He didn’t even get to him and you already rushing in there. If he was brave enough to throw Cora out without leaving dugout he can handle the argument. This makes umpires look bad and when they have to have someone bail them out all the time and go 2 on 1 with manager. We are supposed to base our mechanics on perception but the way ejections are handled now are terrible. When managers and umpire would argue 1 on 1 back in the day, baseball was the top sport in America and umpires didn’t get nearly as much hate as they do now.
DJTexan 4202, You say this same thing on every ejection video. It has nothing to do with "being brave", it is the way arguments are handled and 100% of competent umpires disagree with you. You are completely wrong and are a proven liar who has never umpired a day in your life.
@@alanhess9306 Welcome back 5 months later. I don’t know what proof you are talking about but all I know is that you’re nothing more than a little league umpire.
@@DJTexan I have umpired at a higher level than you ever could, including American Legion regional tournaments, American Legion All star games, and summertime college leagues. Your lack of game management and umpire protocols prove you don't know wtf you are talking about. You're a liar and a loser.
@@alanhess9306 Good for you but until you work at pro level you don’t know nothing. Everything changes from the youth levels. Game management isn’t like how your little handbooks tell you. Every situation is different. The people that call others liars and losers are most likely jealous and bigger losers themselves. Have a nice day.
@@DJTexan You have never worked at the pro level much less HS ball. Maybe you work coach pitch or tee ball, but you don't even understand it is Kulpa's job to get involved and break up the discussion. Numerous legitimate umpires have called you out on your ridiculous comments, but you just don't get it. You remain clueless.
This guy is such an apologist for bad umpires!
No he isn't. There are several videos where he shows the umpires making bad calls. Kind of lame of you to bring that up on a correct call though.
Doesn’t it look like Cora tried to get ejected?
what's the all time record for getting your money's worth in one video?
Have to admit. This year has been really bad as.far as umps not being able to call balls and strikes.
wrong.
So neither you nor the batter in this video know the strike zone.
I haven’t watched baseball since 2007 but since when did MLB become the NBA?
Thinking the same thing with the quick ejections. Look wrong way at Umps and now there are more cases of Umps baiting players for the toss. Like the overuse of Ts in Basketball
Really hoping the Sox win this one
Simple fix replace the home umpire duties with bots.
- The End
I can see why your name is "Mr. Unpopular". The robot would have banged Story out too.
Shut up
BoSox are so bad this year. Story reminds me of how Crawford started in Boston.
The swings vs ohtani were horrific
God knows ump arent perfect, but geez, managers just come out and argue everything these days. It's like they have to compete against the umps for the attention. I he feels stupid when he sees that the ball was actually a strike.
wow...2 different pitches.. almost the same exact location... and according to the little box... the umpire was correct with both. (oh wait, according to the rules.. .the umpire is always right... in this case, he's in the rulebook defined zone too)
judgment call
For years, batters benefitted from anything above the belt being called a ball, especially in the NL, despite the rulebook defined zone. If umps are now calling it by the book, you adjust.
.."borderline pitch"........umm, ya....it was a STRIKE mr announcer. Story hitting a blistering .202 and making $20 MILLION a year while totally embarrassed with that at-bat. Then the staged, animated Cora acted out for the fans. Game is a joke.
He showed great restraint when Cora started clapping.
the 3rd called strike appeared to be good. a strike. when as a batter behind in the count prtect the plate or yoou ll be called out.
When you know you can't hit a 97 mph fastball up in the zone, you lay off and hope it gets called a ball.
