Give it up for Floor Jansen, the best female singer in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this nice group of people😊
Tim had said in the first episode of the series that he has never been able to cry - they all took that as a challenge, but it was Floor who broke him open with this performance. Her natural empathy got her right inside the song and threw it back to him, and as Tim said, made a lie of his album title.
Floor also describes herself as a vocal nerd, and it is through the learning of so many vocal techniques that she can take almost any approach to a song and perform it flawlessly without having to consciously think about technique (she's also said that if she notices herself having to think about technique, she isn't performing at her best - not that we mere mortals would know) - she just lets her empathy guide her, and the result is a uniformly excellent projection of the emotion and story of any good song in any style or genre.
I feel lucky to be alive at the same time as such an amazing performer, who has so much versatility.

I got a chuckle how Tim said that Floor ruined the title of his album, "Lions Don't Cry". He says he never cries - not anymore. ;)
Watching Tim try to resist crying and failing at it gets me every time.
It seems to me she picked this song precisely because her superpower is tapping into the emotional context of music and channeling it. Both the story behind the song, and the way it's written are like rocket fuel for her performance.

@@CUTnPASTEreacts Those artists you mentioned could learn a lot from Floor, in terms of putting emotion into the vocal gymnastics. I have the same condition as Tim's brother. We don't want pity, just acceptance on our own terms. And his brother would probably thump him for wrongly calling him "wheelchair bound". We *use* wheelchairs. We aren't stuck in them. 😉

There's also another version of Shallow from the show where Floor and Tim do a duet, the same episode where she and Henk to Phantom. Phantom was actually the last song performed on the last show of the season.

When you get to the duet from Phantom of the Opera then make sure you are prepared. There is a reason why it is a common reaction for vocal coaches and a common recommendation from the army. If you want to experience her voice that one should be on your must watch list.
When you watch it remember that Henk is THE Dutch phantom and actually also a favorite of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I've noticed a method used by other CZcamsrs to avoid copyright blocking. Mask the sides of the video with a black matte, basically changing the aspect ratio of the video from 16:9 to 4:3. I think it really only needs to be done for the Avotros component of the video. Your part can be left as is. Ya, it takes out some of the context of the video, but the essentials are still there.

Fun fact:
Henk's condition to Floor for doing this with her was - that he could be guest star on the Nightwish concert in the Netherlands - and Floor immediately said YES. And Nightwish had to find room for an ekstra concert - so there are now 2 upcoming Nightwish concerts in the Ziggo Dome, with Henk as guest star, performing Phantom of the Opera live - and hopefully a couple of more songs, like his version of Sound of Silence...
That one you also have to check out, from this Beste Zangers show - Henk did Sound of Silence to Floor - super cool version.
Floor is also using her emotional power in some Nightwish songs - which you will discover - and here she is even more a beast..
I know what you mean by referring to other singers, and that is okay. There are some people that compares Floor to Freddy Mercury due to his versatility, and I think they are on to something - but Floor's voice techniques and voice toolbox are larger than Freddy's were, she is simply better trained, in better condition and therefore more power, and also still developing her voice - Freddy didn't have the time and health.
Floor is unique and that's okay to be stunned by her. It is her passion to evolve her ability to perform, she calls herself for a voice nerd, and are her own biggest critics.
From their new album, in one song, there is an extremely difficult ending in a special opera style that's hard to do. During the recordings they recorded it several times before Tuomas and Floor said ok, nailed it. Floor went home to Sweden - but didn't have the right feeling in her guts - so she listened again, practiced and rehearsed again - and then recorded it in her home studio - sent it to Tuomas - and that is the ending you hear on "Shoemaker" a masterpiece.
Enjoy your dive into the Nightwish Universe - and you may soon be ready for Marco's and Troy's voices too, and the newer songs...

This is very very powerful and emotional performance. But the real thing there is the ending, when Floor drops the bomb by quick braking. Excellent choise from her.
No one else is at Floor's level. However, a couple of suggestions:
The Warning - Queen of the Murder Scene live from Lunario CDMX; 3 young ladies from Mexico currently recording their 3rd studio album so it potentially another rabbit hole for you.
Within Temptation - Paradise featuring Tarja. I prefer the actual video. BTW, Tarja is the original singer of Nightwish.
There is one other song from this show that you should not miss. It is Vivo Per Lei performed by Henk Poort and Emma Heesters.

This is non - commercial tv, all paid for by the Dutch tax payers via our income-taxes. ( In general 35 till 45 % income tax, next to 21%VAT) Beste zangers is a low-budget program. After all the Netherlands is a Social Democracy, headed by a royal family.🤴

Every Saturday Night we waited for the Floor emotional wrecking ball presentation. This week what genre, what language,... who cares you know when it is over she will have grabbed your heart and stirred your soul, and if you don't feel anything when Floor sings then you are either dead or in a coma and either way it doesn't matter!!! I swear this woman could make me choke up singing a telephone directory.
The one song by Floor that has totally destroyed me is De Beelden Blijven (A Song for War Child) (czcams.com/video/e6-6NVsbg6U/video.html). That song will destroy you if you are human even a little but it is well worth it.I often see the faces of the orphans we created during our fire fights in Nam and often wonder what ever happened to those innocent kids who paid for the brutality of the adults in world who should of been taking care of them not harming them!! Floor just rips out your soul with her motherly voice and demands that you not merely feel guilty but you do something about it!!!!

In my opinion this season of Beste Zangers is the best of the best of this TV show. some great moments: Henk Poort with "Noelia", Emma for Floor: "Strong" (written by Floor), Rolf Sanchez - hotel california or the spanish version of "all by myself", Henk "sound of silence", .....
I didn't know about the Tim duet until today, so I'll have to record that, but i've also been getting alot of requests for the performances for Floor as well. I want to get back to a couple more performances from Wacken and then i might give the other performances a go but i will definitely do the Tim and Floor duet, I'll try to record that one tomorrow.

Here's a little snippet for a possible future reaction ... Did you know that Floor has a little sister? Her name is Irene check out an old video on YT of Floors old band featuring both of them singing Who am I.
For me, this performance places Floor Jansen with the great rock voices of the '80s and' 90s, such as Jennifer Rush, Ann Wilson (Heart), Annie Lennox (Eurythmics), Marie Fredriksson (Roxette). Tim Akkerman was certainly not the only one with tears in his eyes. I understand why you tend to compare her to Celine Dion, or Christina Aguilera, because although they do not have similar voices, they are somehow from the same "high class".

Yep, vocally I hear much more a resemblance indeed with Ann Wilson, Marie Fredriksson and certainly also Pat Benatar (who also had classical training).
yeah it's something about they way their voice stands out over the music. and it's not just a volume thing. I get the other comparisons as well and are probably better from a quality of the voice perspective, but in this performance, the power that she shows without sounding Rock or Metal, is why i leaned towards the comparisons I did. ✌️✌️
When you’re done with floor here make sure you watch Strong by Emma Heesters (floor wrote it). Plus watch Vivo Per Lei by Emma and Henk because it’s just a joy to watch. Cheers!

Oh man, I wish I could have put the video up, I made a comment which after thinking about it was maybe too cheeky, but I said something along the lines of, does she realise she just made singing that song seem so easy to the person who originally sang it, Like it was no effort at all". and while it was what i thought at the time, I feel kind of bad for saying it. But the performance itself was amazing. ✌️✌️

My favorite live performances from Floor are Song of Myself, The Poet and the Pendulum (Read some backstory provided by your commenters first before this one) and many of the ones you've already seen.
If you do Anette (2nd singer) reactions, stick to studio versions (Slow love Slow, Scaretale, Meadows of Heaven) and if you react to Tarja (1st singer) songs, I recommended Sleeping Sun, Wishmaster, and Phantom of the Opera from the end of an era dvd.
Also Floor has done a killer duet with Epica's Simone Simons worth watching.

Great reaction again on a great performance as expected by our "Wonder Floor". After the Beste Zangers show, Tim Akkerman was so touched and impressed by her, that he invited Floor to perform that song in a duet on a live TV show for the annual 2019 Dutch Olympic Committee*Dutch Sports Federation award show last december.
Man,... when Floor takes over her part, she really shines, ...just like her silver dress with her golden belting voice !! Wow the shivers all over! She is something else and well deserves all the present success!👍🤘

Can't she just be a returning guest on this show? And I know what you mean with Celine Dion, maybe even some Mitchell... It's the emotion, humble but confident..
I had to go hear Tim Ackerman's original recording of this to see just what Floor did with it. Tim's rendition was definitely a personal message to his brother; a bit softer. Floor made it into an anthem for all those like Tim's brother; a bit more dynamic. Both are very good it their own right; it's just a good, well-written song that lends itself to both styles. Kudos to all.
