This is what Conrad is saying to make sense of what brutality he witnessed. So he’s like the Mariner, compelled to find his bridegrooms among a random group of strangers. He knows how to catch them and bring them in. The sea taught him this 😮.
The question I have is, “What is the idea?” Is it the Horror which he might despair of separating from the human heart?

Brilliant
Apocalypse Now is 100% Heart of Darkness set in Vietnam. The documentary of the making of Apocalypse Now is called Hearts of Darkness.
How in the world could Achebe ignore this part of the novel in his criticism of the book?
The remarkable parallel that Marlowe is describing about Caesar’s stabbing up through the lalmost impenetrable darkness of the upper Thames and the future tale of the trip up the Congo River, why aren’t the other CZcams channels on The Heart ❤of Darkness. Explaining about this.??
