What a pair. As much as Jay knows cars (and history), Donald knows history (and cars). As a history buff AND car buff, I am always enthralled when these two get together.
The Odd Couple intro makes me laugh EVERY time
Osborne is passing himself off as the upper class, and yet Leno's the one worth $400 million. LOL!
Could be a new sitcom. The Snob and the Slob.
@@johanbjork1650 I love him being a slob. It's a breath of fresh air to see someone with money who doesn't look down on others.
Jay and Osborne need to stick to cars not history, that is not and never was a lighthouse, it is a copy of a windmill that Hugh Auchincloss moved on Hammersmith, it caught on fire during restoration and was destroyed. Hugh then asked Jackie and her siblings to design something to be built for Mrs. Auchincloss, Jackie won the competition. It's is and always was a guesthouse., never a lighthouse, but a copy of a windmill.
@@pretoshohmoofcguy6523 Class has nothing to do with money It's education and manners ; which BOTH have. Furthermore, you don't know Osborne's income. 🤔IJS
I could listen to Mr. Osborne talk history for hours. So incredibly knowledgeable.
Notice how this thing is constantly leaking... something - from 2:55 onwards xD
Super cool to see this ancestor of automobiles run for so long - and hauling quite the load, too!
Yes! I was looking through the comments to see if anyone else noticed this.
These videos are amazing on so many levels, the cars, history, architecture...and of course Donald and Jay's combined knowledge and chemistry together. Thank you so much!~!
Wouldn't you love to pick their brains for a day. The automotive knowledge they have is mind blowing!!
Donald knows more then Jay. But I wonder if they know that the first EV was built about 1836.
CZcams gold standard.
I remember riding in the 72 Mercedes and absolutely loving it. Could talk in a normal voice with the top down on the freeway. The ride was buttery smooth. Wonderful car.
As always, excellent history lesson. Thank you guys
As a young boy in the 1970s, I did appreciate the 280 SL. My favourite Mercedes of all time. (and I am a 60s & 70s muscle car guy) I would still snap one up if I could! Thank you both for showing all 3 cars. Very interesting as usual. You guys are the best.
Easily the best car show ever produced. Spectacular and timeless. Thank you.
Thank you! We're glad you enjoy it!
What a class act. Knowledgeable and what a snappy dresser.
Yeah, Jay is one snappy dresser.
This is by far, the best show on any venue. The mix between Mr. Osborne and Mr. Leno is such a joy...and when you mixed these mansions, I absolutely love it. Thank you, thank you.
Agree. Too bad there's no Double Thumbs Up.
I agree 👍I'm so happy I stumbled across this two car guys that love all automobiles and love to educate between this and Jay's pandemic edition I'm satisfied jay should keep that up too btw just him and his cars
Another great feature from the Automotive Dynamic Duo.
I remember meeting Mrs Auchincloss in the late ‘70s (after the big house was sold). She lived in a modest house on the SE portion of the property. She drove around town in either a Ford Granada or a Jaguar Mk II. The livery was black with a broad white streak along the shoulder line. You couldn’t t miss her.
I also saw Doris Duke once. She was in the bleachers at Cardines Field. Someone pointed her out to me. Without her, Newport would have lost a large piece of its architectural heritage.
Leno doesn't seem terribly impressed with the vast grounds and finery of these affluent places. He kind of seems happier tooling around good old run-down Sunland, CA.
All these big places need more maintenance and updates than they get.
This is an excellent show.
I never seen a car like this Mister Leno.
The steering wheel on the Packard is really spectacular....so evocative of the time in which the car was built.
look at a 1950 volvo pv 444 the steringwheel looks just like it, and thats a peoples car...
You there, fill it up with petroleum distillate, and re-vulcanize my tires, post- haste!
.
I'm not sure why this post doesn't have more "Likes." Knowing how rich people act, the post-haste was probably the wittiest part.
.
Thank you Donald and Jay. I love this series. Both of you are national treasures.
I really like the content/format of these video's - the combination of period related classic cars and architecture is very interesting; always a good show - this was a really great episode.
Another great presentation. Jay, "Is it available?" The man is always shopping
This is a fantastic show Donald.
SPECIAL THX to JAY.
for keeping us entertained during covid.
I love the 'stylage' of that 280 SL convertible. I've always wanted an older Mercedes or even a BMW of the same era. It's a shame they don't make cars like that anymore.
When I was 12 years old I converted an old heavy rototiller into my mode of transportation around my neighborhood. It went even slower than the Benz but I wasn't walking around anymore...
Jay and Donald are absolutely incredible as a pair. These two should keep doing videos together.
Jay, please buy Jackie’s Mercedes and restore it. Even if it’s not original the car still deserves to be preserved. (If your garage doesn’t have room I’m sure a certain museum in Newport does 🤣)
How presumptuous!
Averaged roughly 6 mph for 11 hours .
Liking Donald's Speedmaster. 🙂
that packard is still fancy and beautiful to this day
Great job guys. Love the show.
Great job guys! I like Jays comment about working in the garage til 1:00 in the morning and waking up excited to get back in to it. Sounds like me as a kid, actually that's still me. Also tooling around in a classic convertible on beautiful summer day, what could be better then that.
great car to take in the sights
I love this combination. Thanks, guys., I hope this series keeps going.

My 2 favorite things the history of architecture and automobiles. So amazing thank you guys for making a series like this.
I really like learning about Newport Rhode Island. Incredible properties, views and history tied together with these beautiful cars and knowledge between Mr. Osborne and Jay Leno. I look forward to each and every episode! Thank you guys!
This car is very important because the great step-granddaughter of the guy who owned the place had a Mercedes. We couldn’t get the model she had so we got this one instead. ...gotta love car guys.
Some of the best content on the net! I learned so much. Thank you, Donald, Jay and team for sharing. The whole family can watch this and love it.
So can we assume the Jaquiline Bouvier Mercedes is on a truck headed to Jay's Garage in California now? I thought I saw him light up when he heard it needs a lot of work.
I bet that conversation about Jackie Mercedes added a little more value to it. Know when I heard it was available my ears perked up.
These two are the Best ☺️
One of the best intros ever. Someone needs an award.
Love this!
My thanks to both of you gentlemen for allowing a man who lives in the Honda and Toyota world to vicariously experience the great cars of the world.
Gotta love Newport, Rhode Island.
Love this in my home state. Great chemistry between you two! If you ever want to highlight a 2019 Subaru Ascent, I’ll bring it over.
Keep it up, Gentlemen!
Loved our Packard Caribbean.
Jay Leno is the best what he dose for the history of automobiles is unmatched
I wish jay would never get older. We need him around.
Always fun to watch you two!
I'm so happy I stumbled across this channel two of my favorite car guys two dudes that love automobiles and love to educate I love it
Wouldn't it be Special if Jay could acquire the Jackie Bouvier Benz and give it the restoration that it so deserves !!! Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
Marvelous! Thank you gentlemen!
If anybody should purchase Jackie Kennedy's old 230SL, it should be you, Jay. You are one of the few people who would restore to it's former glory. But that Packard! Fifty years ago my late Uncle found a 1932 Senior Series Packard in a barn. He did purchase it, and set about restoring it for some thirty years. Just your average middle class guy, with a garage, and a passion. I remember how quiet and powerful that straight eight was, and the huge amount of room in that comfortable back seat. A true labor of love, it was sold after his passing, and now resides somewhere in Southern California. It came up for auction a few years ago and I knew it was his because I recognized his signature on the repair receipts, but no one in the family was in any position to bring the vehicle back within the fold. They are wonderful vehicles.
That’s a wood fire pizza and Panna water. I would love that and also eating at that restaurant. Both are great
I love these episodes.
2 awesome people, thanks 😊
Another great episode. Thanks guys !!!
keep em coming!! another great one
Awesome , always interesting, Thanks Donald & Jay
always a treat to spend a wee bit of time with you lads
Wonderful show, glad I found it. Thanks!
looks quite relaxing on a property like that :)
Great Show You Guys Know Cars.
Thank you gentlemen for the great video.JDS in AZ usa
Excellent video, gents! I love your history lessons 👏👍
anything with Jay and cars ima click on it 👍👊😎
That Paul Bracq design is absolutely is gorgeous
she traveled with her 2 teenage sons so they could push it up gradual hills all the way
Bertha Benz used for her trip the Motorwagen 3 from 1888. This is the Motorwagen 1 from 1885.
Great, great episode!
Awesome. Thanks Jay for doing Jay Leno's Garage, it introduced me to this.
Great history stuff
Great video with wonderful cars and fascinating history! well done!
Aside from the wheel size, (which makes it even more precarious), that vehicle is the prototype of the motorised sofa. It was not only the first car built, it was the first stolen. (Frau Benz didn't ask her husband's permission to take it on a trip.)
A German friend was very dismissive of the 230; he called it a call-girl's car.
what a great place to have some great guys show us some great cars
What a great combination of knowledgeable gentlemen.
Another great video with you two.😍🤣😎
I want an 1886 Mercedes Benz now, this would be hilarious to drive.
Just Benz, please sir
Take care
Great combination of auto and home history.
Donald & Jay, thank you for sharing the pastoral splendor of Hammersmith Farm. It's the perfect automotive dance floor upon which to glide gracefully around in 3 magnificent cars of successive eras, against a backdrop of galloping thoroughbreds. You presented them so beautifully, expertly and interestingly in lavish detail, befitting their understated elegance. Legendär!
Oscar and Felix RETURN!
You are icons! Dont stop!
My dream for over 35 years is to mest you And visit your garages!
Greetings from the Northug!
Phenomenal video, guys always love hearing your historical and automotive insights. Mr. Osborne, you are a classy guy. Jay, you are quite a contrast (just kidding), Yin and Yang! That 280 SL is a timeless classic with a beautiful, pure, clean design.
The story behind The Benz Motorcart is a story ever woman should know. It was Carl Benz's wife, who took the cart and their two sons and went for the first long journey. A 60 mile trip from Pforzheim to Mannheim, to promote the motorcart. The first automobilist was a woman!
(Although in reality, her boys did the driving;) )
And apart from your stereotypes... Where she did her trip is very mild, rarely gets snow in winter.
This is dam cool! No denying that.😎
Beautiful neighborhood
Wonderful episode.
What always gets me about those Mercedes is the bodywork. They are so much more straight than anything produced by anyone else even today.
That 280SL needs a new rubber break peddle stopper.
5:34 Wow what a beautiful Lady as well as very independent and tough! Oh yea and rich lol. Such magnificent clothing and style! Even the teen boys look fantastic.
It's like they're riding on a work of art.
Verry beatiful vehicle jay sir.aksing.
The dripping gasoline is funny...
Wow, Jay and Donald have some interesting conversations.
What a fabulous channel you've got here!!! ❤
This is the type of antique car (or in this case replica antique car) I think of when I hear the term “Horseless carriage”, some with no roof, a tiller for steering, and a motor with that distinctive pup-put-put sound, a very slow max speed, that actually looks much more like a horse drawn carriage.
Huzzah! I’ve been waiting for this! 😍
Donald you really do try your very best to be serious and then Jay comes across with a disparaging remark which takes the wind right out of your sails ! However, Jay suddenly became VERY interested at 17mins ......Donald "the car is available "..... Jay " what's the condition , ( must have a great value ) . 😂😂 l think we may see this Mercedes sometime ! Unfortunately there is a serious note to end on . There seemed to be an intermittent leak coming from under the seat of the Daimler /Benz as you were driving.....any idea's ? 😂😂😂 Thankyou Donald . And Thankyou Jay . Great show ( as we've come to expect ) .
I love the 280 SL, I have a 380SL almost the same color
