I agree about more content on what products you use. Routines would be cool too (washing routine, cleansing or refreshing routines in between washes if any, etc).
Ive had my locs for only a month. Ive done so much research prior to getting them done and your channel is the only one thats given me this much comfort! Thank you for sharing your journey.
I grew my hair to my knees before getting loc'd and my hair shrank all the way to my shoulders! Insane! I went to a Loctician to start and haven't been back for any maintenance since...it has been 10 months now. I just root roll and palm roll in the shower once a week. My hair is naturally very curly so it dreads easily. This journey is one of patience and just being content with yourself even if your hair may not look so great everyday, especially in the beginning. Super humbled by the experience so far. Your hair looks fabulous!!!
Wow, that's crazy shrinkage. It's definitely a long term commitment to get them to look decent. And hair type makes a huge difference. :) Good luck to you!
I am over 10 years, somewhere down the line you stop to care. Have generally long straight hair and my expirience is to wash your hair more often. Live in Germany and I wash my hair ever 2nd day in winter and daily in summer cause.. In my opinion growing dreads is like felting even when human hair is not that responsie like wool. In general I don't make make maintainence and they generally stay sectioned. I don't feel their weight, may it be because I am male or because I trimmed them a few times. Yeah.. have fun with your hair and life.
Your dreadication is impeccable, and the results speak for themselves! I'm three and a half months into freeforming my chest-length hair. Been watching people's dread reports, but surprisingly haven't come across yours until now. I know I'll keep my dreads as long as my head holds onto them. It's sad to see people cut off (completely) or comb out theirs. Then they make a video where they're obviously coping about it, lmao.
Wow your dreads look awesome. I am about 9 months into my dread journey. I think they're going fairly well, sometimes I have bad days where I almost feel like cutting them out lol, and I usually tie them up. I am willing to let my hair grow, I've done it other times and always ended up cutting it off. Even though I always wanted dreads, as I was young for jobs and everuthing I didn't feel I'd be comfortable with them, because of all the prejuices. Well in two years I'll come back and ask you lots of questions❤. I want to say I think your videos are great, the time lapses you make are handful because we're able to see the changes, and it's great because somehow you let us know it's a matter of time and that you have to understand that! I'm a travel nurse and want to get my locs started. Found you just now and yours are AWESOME!! The thing is I'm a ginger dude with about 7 inch hair on top and 1 inch on the sides. I hope I can eventually have your locs! Will have some extensions crocheted in until I get the length I want. I'm heading to Alaska this December for a travel job for 6 months. Will keep following you on your loc journey.
I’m about 8 months in from my first row. I had an undercut, which I’ve later decided to grow out. So it’s been an awkward journey so far. Lots of headbands and ponytails 😂. I just got my first extensions crocheted into my undercut on the sides, and will soon have the back undercut extensions added and top dreadlocks done to complete my whole head. I’m just beyond shoulder length right now, and hoping to get to mid back to waist length.
On the drying cap: I have partial dreads (significantly shorter hair overall, undercut, and 7 dreads so far…subject to increase on the number of dreads). I work from home, and on days that I do not have to be on phones at all, I use a drying cap first thing when I sit down at my desk. I get my work done with my earbuds under the cap to block the noise, and my dreads are dry within an hour or two.
Update: up to 14 dreads and about to get the rest done, with extensions on the undercut hair. So what’s the update on you? I like your locs! I like the varying lengths
I am patiently waiting untill i can start my dreadlock journey! It’s not gonna be for any time soon yet tho bc i am growing out a short pixie cut. In the meantime i am researching on whay technique i’d prefer and all the other info!
Hey, loved the video. I see so many deadheads leave the life because their crown becomes so heavy. Do you deep clean your locks? That can help with the heavy feeling. If you are considering trimming think about layers. I braided my hair once like that, but I left them in overnight. They stayed for at least a week. My hair is also stick straight and can't hold curls. I have had my locks for 6 years. Freeformed, maintance free.
Thanks. I think layers are a good idea. I haven't deep cleaned if what you mean is one of those vinegar soaks. I'm scared to do that to be honest. Good for you doing free foam and no maintenance. What was that first year like for you?
Yes!!! I look forward to my deep cleans nothing feels better ! You gotta try 1 and make a video you will be amazed I've had 3 sets of dreads and there's nothing better feeling than after a deep clean! Great video as always tho
Hi Sarah, I just saw your first dreadlock video and then this one! So happy you still have them and how good you look in them (better than without)! I am seriously considering dreading my hair - my only stop is having to deal with certain people in certain situations (work you know, I am 52 !! and in my little village in France people may talk you know! - but even that thought is fading out and I am thinking that it is not later that I can do it even more easily (haha!) and I will do the headband like you when needed (plus my husband wants to go for it too, he is black so that would be less shocking for others and being a man too....) Anyways, wanted to say that your hair looks great and suits you (better than "normal" I think) so keep going and great on doing it. My other hesitation point is for the maintenance..... there is no one here who can do it and I am not about to get on a plane for it.... Maybe a friend can be trained and do it..... Anyways, any advice will be welcome! Bye
You should do it. I live in Ireland there’s not many people here who do maintenance either and the ones that are doing it are too far so I do it all myself. I made my dreads in April this year I’m 45 and I don’t care. I love them.

Hi Sarah, I'm excited for your latest update and to see that your locs are still going strong! They look awesome and have gotten so long and thick over the last 2 years!! I got a full head of dreadlocks installed with loose ends 9.5 months ago (backcomb & crochet method like yours) and just recently had my 2nd maintenance appointment (crochet method mostly focused at the roots to pull in all those loose hairs that have grown/fallen out over the past 6 months). Have you ever experienced a fair amount of loose hair fallout at the roots again shortly after maintenance? I don't recall this happening to me after my 1st maintenance, but my babies were only 3 months old at that point. I just felt like they looked a lot neater at the roots for a longer period of time after that 1st appointment. Not sure if this is just part of the young wild stage still and it gets better with time?! Curious about your experience. Thanks for your videos, I've really enjoyed following your journey both before and after getting mine! Watching your videos helped me finally decide to stop stalling and just freaking do it already LOL! I love my locs so much and have really had fun with the journey so far.
Wow. That's so awesome that my videos helped you get locs. I love hearing that. I can't say I remember ever having my hair come out at the root after maintenance. My hair is usually really, really tight and my scalp is sensitive... Sometimes for a few days and sometimes only for one day. Good luck to you!

I washed mine every few months but I should've washed more often. I think I wash more often now depending on the time of year and my activity level. Just depends on each individual person. The hair needs to be clean to lock up.

A baking soda and vinegar deep clean would be done at least twice a year. Your locks will feel so light afterwards
