Dreadlock Maintenance - Blunting Dreadlock Ends

  • When I started my dreadlocks all the tips were loose, wispy ends but I prefer the look of blunted ends. Over the past year or so I've been blunting the ends of my dreadlocks. Wispy ends are great when you want to give that illusion of length while the locs are growing however I feel like my locs are long enough now that I can blunt the tips.
    Here are the items I used in this video

    My dreadlocks were started 4/28/18.

    My dreads just turned 4 years & I blunted my own tips in a similar way as you; but as far as that razor you have... NO WAY! I would DITCH THAT RIGHT NOW & NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! With dreads, you want to savor EVERY STRAND YOU GOT! I would never cut, shave, burn, or do anything to 'remove' my hairs! Just keep using your crochet needle &/or a latch hook!

      People don't realize those loose frizzy hairs is what it's supposed to look like, those are the hairs that eventually go into your locs and keep them healthy with new growth

    After you've swirled it in your palm, put the hook into the loc from about an inch up, pointing down toward the tip, then you can pull all those hairs in. Work the hook in a scooping motion and aim to put the hair inside the dreadlock rather than through it.
    Use your hook to pull in loose hairs, ditch that razor

    I remember when I blunted my locks before they were mature. They shrunk a easy 3 to 4 inches.

      @SarahThornburg  Před 3 lety

      Oh wow! That's a lot of shrinkage. I'm glad I've waited three years since the locs are fairly long. I'll probably keep some wispy ends until they are all long.

    I have wispy ends en and love them more then blunted ends.
    Wispy ends looks more "natural" i think, al so with long dreads that i have.
    But iy is a personal thing!!

    I like the blunt ones and the looser ends 😉
    I don't now if the shaving is a good idea.
    I think its beter to pull that hair into ur dread.
    Years ago when i have fake braids i did that, but with ur real hair it seems beter to lock them in.
    Seems thoose ends can cose more fluffy hairs as they rub agains the other dreads.

    Are those all your real hair or extensions?

    • @SarahThornburg
      @SarahThornburg  Před 3 lety

      It's all my natural hair. I thought about getting extensions a few years ago but never pulled the trigger.

    SHAVE your dreadlocks?? Why on earth would you do that? STOP doing it! All you're doing is actually creating more fuzz and ends sticking out!

    THIS VIDEO IS GIVING ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE TERRIBLE ADVICE!!!!
    No offense I'm just speaking true. This is Caucasian hair cheats. Curly kinky hair blunts on his own after about a year. I guess if you have straight hair and you want blunted ends which in my opinion are much cleaner look as Caucasian hair with straight pieces sticking out look extremely messy and unkempt. Regardless of what hair type you have everyone does not care for their hair as they should. It could be a moisturization factor, or hygiene, etc. The bad part is again regardless of your hair type when your hair looks like 💩 It's a reflection on all of us. If you don't keep your hair clean it reflects on someone like me, a black woman who is ultra fanatical about hair cleanliness. I'm two and a half years in and wash my hair once a week and I'm about to start doing twice a week simply because my hair is at the length to where I don't care if my roots are fuzzy. It just gives it a more natural look.
    Regardless of whatever hair type you have the trimming that you are doing on the outside along the length of the lock is an absolute no-no. That move right there is why I would label this video as absolutely TERRIBLE advice. People please look at other videos. If you're loctician told you to trim the hairs along the length of your lock She is absolutely clueless!!! You want every hair that's there. You want all of that hair to intertwine so that down the line you can keep it. Doing what you're doing will weaken the lock and cause it to fall off because you have cut the hairs that should be interlocking. You're cutting links from the chain.

      Everyone has their own journey and choice of how they want them. It’s not anyone right to tell another how or what to do with their hair.✌️
