Dreadlock Maintenance - One Year Since Last Maintenance
zhlédnutí 2,9KPřed 2 lety
Come along with me while I travel to Eugene, OR to get my dreadlocks maintained by my loctician, Layla. If you're unfamiliar with professional maintenance, basically what happens is Layla will crochet each individual loc starting at the scalp and working her way down to ensure all the loose hairs have been put back into each lock. It's a fairly painful process since the hairs pull against your ...
Beginner Mountain Biking - First Bike Ride After Crash

A few weeks ago I crashed my bike for the first time. This is my first ride after crashing. I rode a short ride at Peterson Ridge Trail System in Sisters, OR. This is the bike I will be riding in Moab later this month. Enjoy the video and l...
What I Wish I Knew Before Getting Dreadlocks

In this video, I talk about some of the things I wish I knew before getting dreadlocks. I did do research, mostly watching other CZcams videos, before getting my dreadlocks started but these are a few things others weren't talking about and wished I knew more. My Philodendron Gloriosum houseplant was growing out of its pot so I took the time to cut and propagate it. I used sphagnum moss to put the cuttings in after safely cutting them away from the rhizome. I've had this plant for a few years but this is the first time I've cut and propagated it. Philodendron Gloriosums are beautiful heart-shaped, velvet leaf plants that grow along the surface of the...

My nephew, Trayton, and I hiked into Canyon Creek Meadows in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness on June 26th, 2021. It's a beautiful hike that I've completed before however much later in the season. This hike usually has a meadow full of native wildflowers but I think we w...

Dreadlock Maintenance - Blunting Dreadlock Ends

When I started my dreadlocks all the tips were loose, wispy ends but I prefer the look of blunted ends. Over the past year or so I've been blunting the ends of my dreadlocks. Dreadlocks, also known as locs, are a hairstyle that can be created by either manually twisting hair or allowing it to mat naturally without combing. However, there are some differences between the two: Cultivation: Locs are cultivated, while dreadlocks are not. Appearance: Locs are generally tidier and more well-kept than dreadlocks, which can have a more natural look. Locs also have more defined roots than dreadlocks. Origin: Dreadlocks originated with a group of followers who called themselves "Dreads" and grew matted locks of hair to emulate Hindu and Nazarite holymen. The style can also have religious significance for some Hindus, who call it "jata" or "twisted hair" and view it as a symbol of lack of vanity. Dreadlocks can also have ties to Rastafarian beliefs, which use the style to separate believers from the rest of society.

THIS VIDEO IS GIVING ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE TERRIBLE ADVICE!!!! No offense I'm just speaking true. This is Caucasian hair cheats. Curly kinky hair blunts on his own after about a year. I guess if you have straight hair and you want blunted ends which in my opinion are much cleaner look as Caucasian hair with straight pieces sticking out look extremely messy and unkempt. Regardless of what hair type you have everyone does not care for their hair as they should. It could be a moisturization factor, or hygiene, etc. The bad part is again regardless of your hair type when your hair looks like 💩 It's a reflection on all of us. If you don't keep your hair clean it reflects on someone like me, a black woman who is ultra fanatical about hair cleanliness. I'm two and a half years in and wash my hair once a week and I'm about to start doing twice a week simply because my hair is at the length to where I don't care if my roots are fuzzy. It just gives it a more natural look. Regardless of whatever hair type you have the trimming that you are doing on the outside along the length of the lock is an absolute no-no. That move right there is why I would label this video as absolutely TERRIBLE advice. People please look at other videos. If you're loctician told you to trim the hairs along the length of your lock She is absolutely clueless!!! You want every hair that's there. You want all of that hair to intertwine so that down the line you can keep it. Doing what you're doing will weaken the lock and cause it to fall off because you have cut the hairs that should be interlocking. You're cutting links from the chain.

Hi Sarah, Well my story is very different. I felt compelled to get dreadlocks for a spiritual reason. I did two months of research before getting them, and by no means did I learn everything there is to know, but I got a pretty good overview of the history and cultures that have and do wear them. I live in NW Montana so there are very few people here that have them. It was nearly impossible to find someone to do them, only two people locally to date. As far as pain, I have been in the chair a total of five times in eight months, two separate days to have them done and three times for maintenance. In all of those times I never experienced any real pain, but that could be due to my being on pain meds for severe arthritis anyway. I basically took a little nap most days I was in the chair. As far as my friends go, I told my friends ahead of time what I was going to do and why. Being that I am 65 and all my friends are that age or older, I'm sure you can guess that they were all pretty shocked, but then again, I have piercings and tattoos as well even though I'm very religious. None of my friends have wanted to touch them or chat about them. The best response I've had out in the community has come from young folks in their late teens to twenties. But that all really doesn't matter as my reason for getting them has nothing at all to do with fashion or popularity. It's actually been interesting to watch the reaction you get from people. I use to be a greeter at a local Walmart and I found that 9 out of 10 times the kindest people were the ones with tats and piercings instead of the three piece suits and designer dresses. Now that I've had them for eight months I've come to enjoy them, even decorated a few of them and can say as far as I'm concerned I'll wear them for life now. I loved how you told about getting down on the little girls level so she could see and touch them. That's how you help children to not be fearful of people with handicaps or any differences really. I've enjoyed the few of you videos I've seen and I am subscribed now to your channel. I think you are a very kind and sincere person and I appreciate all you've had to share about your journey. Thank you!❤

I remember seeing your video when you first got them done and look at them now! Wow! You have so much more hair than I do. And your length since you started them has doubled! I have baby fine hair and only thirty locs. But mine are now eight months old and they are doing great even though I haven't had any professional maintenance for five months. I live in NW Montana so it's hard to find locticians. I bet they feel so much better! They look great!!! I just realized this video is two years old. Hope you still have and love them!

I hope you have done better research on where dreadlocks in the US come from. NATIVE AMERICANS WERE HERE FIRST. NOT AFRICANS.... Natives have always had dreadlocks. So please get it right. ... It's so frustrating to me when ppl say that. We were here long before any African rather white or black African . We were here before Vikings ( although I am also Viking , my grandfather is full Native , my grandmother is half Native and we had a picture of my grandfathers chief from his tribe in the living room with dreads my whole life. I am 56 now. So just please do more research. This is why I HATE Google. It tells you what others are writing. And ppl read that. They don't actually research. I'm glad Google is finally telling actual true info at the very top of the pages now. So plz go check it out

Your dreadication is impeccable, and the results speak for themselves! I'm three and a half months into freeforming my chest-length hair. Been watching people's dread reports, but surprisingly haven't come across yours until now. I know I'll keep my dreads as long as my head holds onto them. It's sad to see people cut off (completely) or comb out theirs. Then they make a video where they're obviously coping about it, lmao.

I am willing to let my hair grow, I've done it other times and always ended up cutting it off. Even though I always wanted dreads, as I was young for jobs and everuthing I didn't feel I'd be comfortable with them, because of all the prejuices. Well in two years I'll come back and ask you lots of questions❤. I want to say I think your videos are great, the time lapses you make are handful because we're able to see the changes, and it's great because somehow you let us know it's a matter of time and that you have to understand that! I have more bohemian hippy people around me working as stylist, artist, free spirit minded people and also in my family.....i think if you have family or people programmed by society and have an office job they think and look like the average.....it depends on so many factors. I’m about 8 months in from my first row. I had an undercut, which I’ve later decided to grow out. So it’s been an awkward journey so far. Lots of headbands and ponytails 😂. I just got my first extensions crocheted into my undercut on the sides, and will soon have the back undercut extensions added and top dreadlocks done to complete my whole head. I’m just beyond shoulder length right now, and hoping to get to mid back to waist length.

I got dreadlocks last week I have no experience but I made them myself and I maintain them all the time I can’t deal with messy and loose hair. It’s a lot of work I wish I knew how much effort it is. I also put human hair extensions in and they are so itchy on my back. Otherwise I love it and I’m pretty impressed with my new found skills. I’m one of those people who don’t want to talk about my dreadlocks and I hope people will not want to talk about them. Probably because people close to me will be negative about it and I’m not here for that. My partner and son likes them and that’s enough for me.

I am over 10 years, somewhere down the line you stop to care. Have generally long straight hair and my expirience is to wash your hair more often. Live in Germany and I wash my hair ever 2nd day in winter and daily in summer cause.. In my opinion growing dreads is like felting even when human hair is not that responsie like wool. In general I don't make make maintainence and they generally stay sectioned. I don't feel their weight, may it be because I am male or because I trimmed them a few times. Yeah.. have fun with your hair and life.

  • @christinehaslam9480

Thanks for sharing your journey. I just got partials a few weeks ago. I have really fine, straight hair. I wash them 1x a week - was told to only wash my scalp (gently), then when I rinse, it cleans the rest of them. However, daily I care for them. In the morning I put my non dreaded hair up in a clip. I then take my fingers and work each dread at the scalp --- separating them from any hair that doesn't belong. As sometimes loose hair gets mixed within at the scalp. I then take each dread and palm roll them. I do this 2 - 3x a day... I'm obsessed with the palm rolling and care of them... LOL Also, I bought satin pillow cases and use a lint free towel after washing them. I blowdry them on and off throughout the day and let them dry fully by not putting them in a pony tail etc. I just let them hang. I wash in the morning, to assure their dry by bedtime. To prevent mold and mis-shaping...
