Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy on ‘The Revenant’ and if They’ll Ever Direct

- When you look at the incredible resumes of both Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, for me the one thing that stands out is neither of them has ever directed before. You’d think by now DiCaprio might have helmed a short film, or perhaps attached his name to a feature that he really wanted to helm for himself, but nothing. And the same goes for Tom Hardy. So when I sat down with the gifted actors to talk about their incredible work in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, I decided to start the interview off by asking if either of them have plans to direct. While I expected a generic answer like “when I find the right project,” I was surprised to hear DiCaprio say “I don’t know if I could do it.”
The fact is DiCaprio is one of the best actors working in film. He’s proven again and again that whatever role he takes on he’ll always deliver a standout performance. But being a great actor doesn’t make you a great director. More often than not people think just because they’re great at one aspect of making a movie they can do everything. But not everyone is Ben Affleck, who I’d argue is a better director than actor. So it’s refreshing to hear someone as successful as DiCaprio acknowledge his limitations.
During the rest of the interview DiCaprio and Hardy talked about getting to work with Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and the challenge of making The Revenant. Check out what they had to say below.

Tom Hardy seems so intimidating and scary when he's not doing anything, but when he talks for a while he seems really nice and cool.

+Parth Vaidya many people are saying he might lose to Michael Fassbender. I think Michael should wait and Leo should win this year. He gave the best performance out of any actor this year (in my opinion), but his opportunity to win an Oscar has been way overdue. Also way too many people would make fun of him if he lost again (through social media). That's not the case if Fassbender loses. In fact 'Steve Jobs' as a movie has been overlooked and bombed hard at the box office sadly.

Both great talents but difference between the 2 is Di Caprio knows he's a movie star in the classic tradition and Hardy doesnt give a shit about being a movie star. Both are class

+Ludwig von Koopa Not really. He usually does the same boring and repetitive questions like ' save or kill'. Plus his questions at the Star Wars junket were some of the worst ever. He normally does ask some pretty silly questions whereas Harloff actually asks questions we want to hear the answer to
This person speaks the truth. (Sorry to hurt feelings, and if the interviewer is reading these comments, take it as a life lesson.) He isn't good at interviews!

My plan for December, and a few weeks into January, was to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as many times as my schedule allows. So far I've seen it twice. I don't have lots of spare time. I will amend that plan to include this movie, if I can find it in a theater nearby.
Saw this film the other day, that bear scene was so intense. Leo might finally get that Oscar.
Also, Tom scares me. He looks like the kinda guy you don't wanna mess with.
I'm sure when filming in the snow got really tough for Leo, he just closed his eyes and thought of sailing the mediterranean on a luxury yacht surrounded by topless women. Because he can.

I've been wanting to know if Leo would ever direct for a while now. Working with Scorsese for as long as he has, surely some of that has rubbed off on him.
Tom Hardy at first appeared to be a bit of an idiot but when DiCaprio missed the question and Hardy quickly summarized the interviewers question to DiCaprio. That changed my opinion. Now I get the impression that there's more to Hardy and he was just uncomfortable in the interview. Also it was refreshing to hear DiCaprio explain why he's not ready to be a director and the appreciation for the work a director has to go through.

+Monk Music lol. He definitely was running out of steam. Probably tired from talking all day. Sitting under those hot lights and answering the same question 30-50 times can't be fun. Plus it looks like Tom was relishing being the second fiddle so he didn't have to as much.
I'm sorry to say this but please get John Campea, Christian Harloff or any of the movie talk team to do these interviews. They know the right questions to ask and are just as fun to watch as the actors interviewed.
Frosty definitely should have asked jokingly if either of them watched any episodes of Survivor Man, or Bear Grylls in preparation for the film.

Just watched this movie for the first time last night.
And Once again .. Any Movie Tom Hardy is in , he completely steals the show, in a good way. Personally Tom out shined everyone on this movie. Two best parts of this movie . The cinematography amazing ! Tom Hardy .. being the Best at his craft!

This interviewer is just completely unfamiliar haha I mean its exciting when the people we watch on this channel get to meet talented celebrities and directors. I would get excited for Josh John Mark or Christian to meet these guys. But this dudes a stranger to this audience I mean I'm sure he's important to Collider but we don't fucking know him hes not featured

Really I somehow missed those videos I try to watch as many as I can recaps and movie talks. Leo is a movie star. Tom is not a movie star. He doesn't need glamour. he loves his acting craft, to which he devotes 100%. and behind the scenes, family, dogs and jiu-jitsu. he doesn't need any fuss. 👍👍👍🔥
