    I was gifted a huge box of 80’s era poly pillow stuffing. I’ve been chopping up my tiny scraps of batting and fabric with my rotary cutter and adding those crumbs to my free pillow stuffing. No one knows but me what’s in those pet beds and pet toys and it keeps it from going in the trash.

    I'd probably use a jelly roll instead of a charm pack. Sew 4 half-lengths together, then subcut into 2.5" lengths. Once you have several variations done, use 4 different subcuts to create the block.

    • @faydixon5955

      Cost wise the Mini Charm packs are better choice plus using a jelly roll involves more cutting. I think Kimberly is making this a quick and easy quilt.

    • @shellyrichards7455
      @shellyrichards7455 Před 3 lety +9

      Actually when you figure cost per yard, mini charms are more expensive. Yes there's a bit more cutting, but the sewing is much quicker, plus then you wouldn't need to cut down layer cakes into mini charms. I guess it depends on what you prefer to do. I know it would be much faster for me with the jelly roll method. Even cutting 2.5" strips from a layer cake and sewing sets would be faster for me than a huge mess of mini charms. If you're planning a quilt larger than this lap quilt, the impact would be even greater.
      By no means am I saying this was a wrong method, merely stating there is an alternate method some may wish to consider.

    • @faydixon5955
      @faydixon5955 Před 3 lety +2

      @@shellyrichards7455 I was talking about the overall price. Four Mini Charms are a lot cheaper than a jelly roll. But we each do it how we choose. Kimberly's goal is to give us projects that are quick and not very expensive.

    Thank you for sharing this pattern. I would take the scrap material and tie it to twine with mini ornaments to decorate with

    Love this quilt, thank you for great instructions! Hey those scrapes can be used to make dog beds or for a rug down the road. ❤️

      I too save my tiny scraps (batting too) for stuffing dog/cat beds & use the ones big enough for crumb blocks. Have made 2 big quilts this year just from crumbs! Sew fun to use throw away scraps & do something useful! I would have used Kimberly's scraps for my crumbs!

    Thank you so much for showing this method of organizing the block and chain piecing! I am just teaching myself to piece by machine. Years ago when I learned hand piecing I was taught to look at blocks in horizontal rows. I am interested in making doll and mini quilts. Your methods will translate very well in my journey. Thank you again!

    When I am working in a block like this I have used a bag dumped all the squares in and shake up to get a good mix then reach in and pull out and start chaining. Worked every time. Do very little moving around.
