- Oud & Lute - King of Instruments -
The origin of the oud belongs to the ancient times and similar instruments were used by the Babylonian and ancient Egyptian. Until today, oud is played as the "king of instruments" in Arabic culture.
The oud found his way to Europe in medieval times and it became "lute". During the Renaissance the lute was also regarded as the "king of instruments".

seas traveling with moontides.
The stars one cannot see without the darkness by suns fading in and out with galaxies being born over and over again. Dark holes one can find one in transformation of circles of spheres. Thanks! The strings to hold are the lower 6 courses and on these strings we use also barré technique. The other courses are bass strings and are only plucked. The difficulties are more with the right thumb which must hit these bass strings - without looking 😉

It appears to have extra an extra string ..? Raised? Is there a name for this particular Oud? Or is it an adapted one? How many strings does this Oud have? 11? Apologies for all the questions! Thanks! This is a baroque lute and you need to order from a master lute maker. With a little luck you can find a used one - e.g. at the Lute Society of America.

I wish I knew the tuning system used to tune this instrument, is it 12TET ?
This lute is tuned on the 1/4 meantone tuning (and not equal temperament). Here, the major 3rd and minor 6th are perfectly pure and minor 3rd and major 6th are almost pure.

Wrong. The ancestor of the guitar is the VIHUELA.
But correct - the social aspect of the instruments is always ignored. The function of the lute in society was taken over by the guitar during the 18th and 19th centuries. You only see the construction of the instruments.
