The origin of the oud belongs to the ancient times and similar instruments were used by the Babylonian and ancient Egyptian. Until today, oud is played as the "king of instruments" in Arabic culture.
The oud found his way to Europe in medieval times and it became "lute". During the Renaissance the lute was also regarded as the "king of instruments".

Thanks a lot! As you say, in my channel, ads during the video (mid-rolls) are switched off. But, some listeners have reported that there were ads in the middle of the video. Simply fantastic! As a senior guitar player and from your videos it was easy to understand the logic of the instrument! Learned Oud without having one, just converted my old guitar into an approximate instrument. All the best!
To be honest, I'm quite skeptical that it will work out that way.
String tension of oud is only half as strong as guitar. So you can't make oud vibrate with the attack technique of guitar.
If you still think it worked without oud, please show us, for example on CZcams. If people are inspired by that, I believe you.

Amazing! May I ask what type of strings you use? and what key? not an expert on music but the sound is enchanting!
Many thanks! I use ordinary oud strings. The key and maqam often changes in this track. The sound comes mainly from my stroke technique and not from material condition.
so you drop the top string to A? sounds good on your instrument...on mine it is a little flaky...
I looked at your oud playing. You have a good instrument. Experiment with the stroke. Then you can get much more from your oud. Also my #6 string has hardly any tension when it's tuned on A.
