    This sort of experimentation has helped me steadily improve to single figure scores in a couple of years. I’m always amazed that people whos handicaps stay the same seem to be scared of trying different stuff out of fear of losing something whereas, although this can happen short term, gives a more rounded overview of the swing and helps break through platos in the long run.(in my experience anyway). I now love temporarily losing my swing and breaking through that hurdle to improvement. It might not work for everyone but thanks so much Russel for talking about these less obvious concepts. It really is so valuable. Thanks for the hard work. If I wasn’t a poor student in Scotland, I would visit you regularly.👍🏻

    Stumbled across this today and then went to range and tried it out.
    Result - hit a 5yd draw right through the bag, ball after ball. Something I’ve never been able to do 👌🏻

    Love this drill/ thought process. Our bodily awareness is so heavily dictated by our head & brain, as you touched on at 3:55, it makes sense a slight manipulation of the space you’re swinging in can change the path slightly!

    Like the drill for its simplicity - looking forward to putting it into practice!!

    Great video. My head tends to stay back. Letting my head rotate with the spine frees up swing. The tip to look left and experimenting turning my head left just before swinging makes it way easier for me to fade the ball

    Wow George, your impact sounds extra crisp today! I have never heard of changing head position for a new perspective before but what a fresh idea. Already better in to out swing. Very slight changes in head position also work well with putting stroke. Fun to experiment. Excellent video Russell. TY!

    After seeing Hideki at the Masters with his head tilted back, I tried it at the range today. Totally transformed my swing and now makes total sense. Your head is super heavy and so the stability in the legs will be off kilter if we don't position it correctly. Have always tended to spin out and so keeping head slightly looking back at impact stops me doing that and keeps club behind me more at start of downswing.

    Good stuff , very rarely does anyone talk about the head positions.

    1:08 - George's head position just before impact, reminds me a little of Rory. 4:40 - Really like this drill. Also, I think we all remember Jack Nicholas' famous head rotation and tilt just before take away.

    Brilliant thinking, the hardest shot to hit is a straight one..... far easier when free wheeling with the swing and not getting too obsessed with certain positions :)

  • @j1238066
    @j1238066 Před rokem

    I'm right handed & left eye dominant so I need to turn my head to the right & focus with my left eye on the ball which helps keeping my head behind the ball otherwise I tend to hit thin shots to the left

    Will definitely give this a go, especially with the driver.
    Any chance George could have a mic Russell?. Would be nice to hear him speak when you're both having a conversation.
    Keep up the great content.

    I wonder if you can help shape shots using head position. Weird head move I do is before set up bring shaft to back parallel and slowly look (moving head) from hands to clubhead and back. Not sure why it works but when I do it, it seems like my arms fly through impact zone freely and fast.

    Hi Russell. Thanks for the video, great stuff. I have a question for you on head moves: Despite being relatively young (31yo) and in decent shape, I have poor neck mobility and struggle to keep my head reasonably still (doesn't move much horizontally but rotates a lot with my body) from the middle to the top of my backswing. I've been toying with the thought of starting the swing with my head slightly tilted so that it doesn't move as much. What are your thoughts about this? Cheers

    I like this idea a lot. I'm curious as somebody who struggles to bring the club back on plane and is under plane and inside on takeaway what type of head position you would advocate playing around with?

    • @russellheritagegolf
      @russellheritagegolf  Před 4 lety +1

      Maybe tilt left eye down

    Position of the head definitely affects both your perspective of the swing and how your upper body moves. Ive had an urge to tilt my head to the right at the top of the bs, looking down the line, and that coincided with me moving my upper body over my right hip. By tilting my head the other way (or keeping it neutral) it encourages me turning my upper body more rel to my hips, turning my pelvis into my.right thigh instead of over it, and also tilting my shoulders at the takeaway instead of turning my shoulders horisontally.

      Dog lover JB I’m left eye dominant and right handed. Jack Nicklaus is too. I think it’s a big advantage in golf.
