This is one of the best “tips” you can do . This really fixed my early extension and adding loft , flip etc. This move with the shallow the club helped me a lot. Along with more knee flex pretty much have solved my shanks. Been doing this for about 3 weeks with foam balls in the garage every day.
Love these 2 moves Russell. I see early extension in just about every golf swing I look when getting asked for advice. It's so common and causes so many issues in the golf swing. These moves will help golfers stop early extension and stay in posture much better. Cheers
Hahhahahahahha your a shit teacher early extensions is through hips not arms bellend
Russell, been following your advice for the past year. Did a swing change and one week hit fantastic. I Commented on this prior. You said don't give up keep trying the movement. It takes time and effort. Your thoughtful on your approach. As we self diagnose our problem, you reinforce "the sum of the parts equal the whole".
Great video- keep up the great work.
Thanks Robert 👍🏻
Just watched this and love it. I took a lesson because I notice my divots and toe hits suggested over the top movement. She had no mention of me standing up or hip getting closer to ball on down swing. She just had me feel the more inside out swing. Started video of my swing at range and notice right away that my hips were closer to ball on downswing than on backswing along with standing up. BOOM, there's my real problem. I like your over exaggerated example of hip down rotation. Thank you.
What a great video. One of the best I have watched. As a sufferer of early extension, I try different feels. I get it, then lose it then try all sorts to figure it out again. This though is the best for me. By doing this gives me the feeling of squatting which then allows me to build pressure from the ground up through the left leg. Thanks for sharing and also that you have to play silly shots to improve. People look at you strange on the range when trying something different. It’s not all about sending bombs. ⛳️
Just had that Ureka moment. You have just illustrated with clarity why most of my shots are going left. I shall take this to the driving range tomorrow and practice the drills you have demonstrated. Thanks again Russell.
Hi Ed most drawers of the ball set up with closed shoulders send me a vid of your swing I will advise u
Wise words - practice is one thing golf on the course is definitely something else! Cheers Russ
No not really I’m a single handicap 1 practice is to overwhelming
Thanks Russell. Off to the range tomorrow to practice this very thing. Will run video.
Love your videos Russel. Far the best teaching channel 👍
top shelf. thanks this is a good step by step breakdown
just saw this video and dude, you summed up the whole e.e. problem and key related tings absolutely perfectly!! took me since July this year to work on my e.e. and just coming around with it and i realised exactly the same thing you mentioned. after sorting my pelvis tilt, i started pulling everything left, but after getting used to my elbow forward now i get this beautiful draw every time and more solid contact!!! like i said, took me 5 months of practise but you are absolutely on the mark with this video!!! cheers mate and keep up the good work:)
oh yeah, i also pushed the ball further in my stance and helps me with clearance for elbow. everything you said is ABSOLUTELY ON POINT MATE!!!!! cheers 👍👍👍
Refreshing video on the issue. Will try this, thanks
That was absolutely brilliantly said !! Leave your ego at the door BOOM 💥 , that’s the key to change LOVE IT so well said WELL DONE ...
Are you female
This is a huge video. Add in the thought of hold your shoulder rotation back as much as possible with the elbow drive and it fixed me.
Top notch content. Thanks.
what an excellent summary and clearly delivered
"Check your ego at the door" - very wise words!
Why ? Do you suffer with distance I guess so..... dick
Wonderfully explained Russell.
This changed my life!
Really needed this realistic view. I practiced the motion for a good month at home to try to engrain it. First time hitting balls and I was dramatically coming across the ball. Hitting this crazy low shots to the right. Which is opposite of my normal shot shape. So, I thought I must be doing something wrong.
I like the idea of putting the ball forward to force the drive with the right elbow. I'll be trying this at the range this week!
No that won’t work the right elbow needs to help the swing not creat plane correction
Great video again thanks
Very helpful!👍🏻👍🏻
Like your drill very much
Excellent instruction. You are correct, it requires that WE invest time in drills, feeling, and testing our ability to get outside of our comfort zone. I LOVE your communication style and your insistence on the fact it isn't going to happen by just watching A video. WE must spend time doing what you suggest. Thank you. You have helped me. I am killing my drives and irons. I shot a 74, 76, 77, and a 78, four days in a row. I made correctable mistakes in judgement, wrong iron, etc. I was consistent and compressed the ball better.
I am happy I found your instruction.
Thanks Robert
You are full of shit 74 76 77 what a dick so 2 weeks you won’t break 100
hi Russell. Thanks a lot for your videos. I've been working hard on this and my early Ext. is really really better but, I'm now coming over the top like you said .... You're a golf wizard, your predictions are great ,!!!! Do you have PLEASE an exercice / drill to get the sensation of the right elbows drive to correct that problem. For me it's the hardest part and I'd like to end with that before the start of the season. THANKS A LOT. Rico
I wonder what would be harder to teach a golf swing with all the trimmings shoulder turn hip turn Weight transfer club on the right plane right Eye behind ball proper grip and posture I think ! that is the backswing complete just repeat all those moves in the downswing Or someone who’s got an early extension with all the trimmings no shoulder turn no hip turn no weight transfer Club on the wrong plane right eye not behind ball wrong grip and posture that is definitely the backswing finished then just repeat it on the down swing Russell could you teach a golfer who doe’s not have an extension🤔🤗
Thanks!
Excellent!
Probably one of the best lessons I've ever witnessed! I will be doing this drill for sure, Thanks Russell!
Why what’s your faults
sorry to be offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the account password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Remington Kase Instablaster ;)
@Eliseo Caden Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Eliseo Caden It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account!
Russell, would you agree that the first move down in the transition would be to re-flex the trail knee to equal the address position, have the same flex as the lead knee and have both knees parallel to the target line.
Leave your ego at the door. Couldn’t be more appropriate and sage. Excellent video to outline the process and emphasizing patience with step 1 AND 2.
Played 9 holes yesterday, hot and windy, so ball striking was below par compared to the last few weeks. I still had some good holes but I was a bit disappointed with some of my shots (seemed to fall back into bad habits) I know I can get more "snap" when I hit the ball in practice. So, went to the oval and worked on the main points I've adapted to, every thing seemed fine but I was still not getting those really crisp hits. So I focused on the lead hip clearing and not allowing too much weight shift.......Then I got it....I had to PULL into the lead side more and use the ground to fight against the initial down swing. I've heard another instructor describe it as the "jam jar" effect......your legs and hips are the jar and the upper body the lid, you mentally open or close the jam jar, the upper and lower body move against each other to create more club head speed and all the benefits. Maybe something you could do a video on?
Thank you for the words about the comfort zone and ways of practicing.....I am exactly the guy who do the drills several times and then belives it is sudenly fixed. I feel motivation to change. Great video! (HCP 8.0)
Thanks for feedback 👍
Thanks for feedback 👍
I understood the movements before watching this session but found it difficult to work on; not rotating correctly leads me to hitting very inconsistent strikes. I am looking forward to giving this a go. Thanks.
Send me your swing I will help you
See that meteor shoot across at 3 mins ? Another excellent video.
Does this sort of method and striking even apply to fairway woods and driver off the tee pal ?
Do do these drills keeping the ball your normal distance away from your feet?
Something that helped me move my left hip back was to think about moving my left shoulder left and back. If you watch your shoulders when you explain the hip movement, your shoulders go the same way. It was just a feel I related to more than my hips. I'm a terrible football player so struggle with lower half feels.
👍🏻
Keeping elbow tight on Downswing makes a huge difference. It makes it easier to keep the hands from drifting away from the body.
finally heard someone mention correct hip extension and when to do it ,removing early hip extension on its own could lead to no hip extension later
Russell, is it possible to work on driving the elbow first and that would force me to tilt the pelvis downward. Love the videos, you are the best. Cheers
Yeah that sounds like a plan
No way never drive the right elbow I presume that’s what your mentioning keep right elbow tucked i. Left elbow loads of width
Thanks for this Russell, noticed i was doing this i was in such a rush to hit the ball and look at where it had gone, maybe you could look at more lean/weight/body position to the left is required at impact ? always something i've been confused about whether the body is to remain reasonably the same position at the start of the back swing as it is at impact
Yeah I’m hoping upcoming videos will really help with this problem
Swinging fast is a great thing if done with great tempo send me your swing
@@shauntowell4138 hi Shaun how can i send you this
Hands must have felt great on some of those... good stuff
Still recovering from knee surgery... so simple drills like this should be helpful. There were quite a few shanks in today's workout!
Hi Bernard I had shanks for over a year goddddddd it was sooooo hard trust me this won’t help push your ass back hard and keep it there...send me a vid of your wpswing I will help you
@@shauntowell4138 Russ is dealing with it, thank you kindly! :-)
This video is underrated
I'm at this stage...ive been off 4 it's been really hard to accept how bad I've got - I have to change my early extension that I must've been getting away with for years but now it makes my back click especially with the longer clubs...my short irons seem to have benefited 1st gained yardage but my driver is a huge struggle - when I video it (the driver) the right hip fires toward the ball especially if I swing at 70 - 80 %...im so frustrated
Could you explain how the back leg and knee works in the downswing, should the back knee be facing the target at impact instead of jutting out towards the ball.
Right great question the knees don’t matter as long as they stay bent and in motion with your swing feel like Elvis Great tip
@@shauntowell4138 I find my right hip shooting out at start of downswing this causes my right knee to lock up and in turn causes the early extension and coming out of the shot and usually thin contact on bottom of club.
Russel...I am a senior and have never conquered the early extension problem. The drills given me , I could never do. This drill seems quite different, since you can do it by degrees. Also if you order lessons on line ... how is that pursued? Thanks and also not sure how to communicate with you. Do you have web page or something?

One question. If the early hip extension is caused in a swing by getting steep immediately in the downswing and the hips are trying to rotate but you have to early extend in order to hit the ball, wouldn't simply getting the club shallower and on plane to start the downswing automatically correct the hip extension? I mean if the early extension is a correction but you eliminate the need for the correction your body tends to be pretty smart about things like that.
I guess this seems like an ideal fix when the hips aren't working at all or only working laterally, or when swallowing the club makes the player get so stuck they can't hit the ball at all?
I’ve got a video coming out tomorrow which will help this
Leaving your hands up momentarily at the beginning of the downswing should shallow the club a bit since you'll be turning away from it. Just a thought
What a load of shit
@@shauntowell4138 I got that tip from your Mom
If you have a flatter swing, will that be easier to make this change since the club is already coming more from the inside and the elbow is in a better position, or am I completely wrong here?
Not it wouldn’t unfortunately, I wouldn’t suggest lead arm any lower than shoulder plane 👍
Sounds like a shanker make sure you creat space bye keeping your ass back
Is it fair to say the more you have the ball forward at address the more you have to drive the rear elbow to make contact with the ball? That being the case there is a more forward elbow to hit with the driver than for a wedge shot because of ball placement at address??
For sure that would be a reason
Hello. So I injured my ribs with my swing. A couple times now actually. What am I doing wrong so that I don't continue to get this injury? I'm very much so a beginner. Thanks.
Hard to say, maybe just slow things down a little
One of the reasons why I'm good at learning foreign languages is that I'm willing to sound like a fool while I'm learning. That being said, it's very hard for me to look bad while I make a swing change. This perspective really helps, thank you. Dump the ego to make changes lol.
Brilliant
I can't get my right elbow to lead my right wrist/hand towards the ball. The right arm just won"t bend like that. I find myself having to flip my right hand back a little, to get club anywhere near on plane. Does that make sense? Does the right elbow LEAD the right forearm? Not sure if I've explained that correctly. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the challenge. The odd great ball strike. Very inconsistent though. Thank you
You need to make sure your rotating enough in the downswing to create space
When I said " one week did fantastic" I meant that it took alot of hard work to get to that point. I didn't mean it only worked for one week. Sorry fir any confusion. Your the best.
Regards.
I got it 👍🏻
Great advice. But why are early extension videos almost always taught with an iron? I have no problem keeping posture hitting down on the ball with an iron. The EE trap happens when hitting up on a ball with a driver. This type of correction with a driver leads to pop ups.
Tomorrow will help then
Last month I really worked out with those moves and the second day my lower back muscles ached.
I would be careful then, may not suit or done incorrectly
There’s a great swing for easy back pull your arms down watch vids
Hi. My name is Bill, and I'm an early extender.
Hi Bill
@@antonastrom749 I think i'm over it! Played great yesterday!
I am an early extender and that is good advice. I will work on it. However, I started to get distracted by the number of times you said "Sort of" and Kind of". Sorry, but having been a trainer all my life I know how these "filler words" can distract from good instruction. I watched the video a second time and there were 34 instances in 12min 26sec. If you become aware you are saying these things you are more likely to do it less. Hope you don't mind me saying - only trying to help. Keep up the great instruction.
I do this think this can help people, but do think tips like this can lead to other unwanted side effects for amateurs who may not be yet swinging on optimal swing plane. If you can teach someone to get on a proper swing plane which is not easy to do, they will not have this early extension issue. This may be an intersting tip and popular topic among CZcams golf videos, but I don't think it will have meaningful long term impact on most amateurs trying to learn proper golf swing.
I’m not so sure. I personally feel it’s really hard to get people to change. Also I feel these videos just help bring awareness to what should happen in the golf swing
At 1:45, was that a UFO that went by on the left hand side?! Lol oh wait those are golf balls, lol
I thought there was one at 3.00. Then I realised-silly me.
In the spirit of the channel, and Russell's awesome teaching. A slow motion of perhaps the greatest elbow drive in the game today - czcams.com/video/mD3C2jfBRR8/video.html
Ok, stumbled upon this vid of In-Cee Chun.....she nails it exactly. Watch her right foot through impact, it momentary stalls at impact and then only after the weight of the club's momentum pulls her fully around that she lifts it into the finish position.......czcams.com/video/6X6W_tdjkCU/video.html
Your left foot is so open why? I don’t get that ...do you suffer with follow through?
Just helps clear that side out of the way
@@russellheritagegolf thanks for the reply but you know that makes no difference to creating space in the downswing ...in fact you can over compensate and draw everything left ..............,,,....,,,,,,.,can you send me your swing I will analys it I’ve watched you a lot your problem I imagine is distance
Psmy problem is I hit the ball 2 far you might laugh 😂 but it’s my problem I’m 150 yrds out I hit sand wedge I’m short I hit pitching wedge I’m going through the green !,,ive tried choking down but I don’t commit I hit a 60 lob 100 yards sand 120 I have nothing 140
I have ping g400 orange spots
For those that wonder if even the best in the game struggle with early hip extension? Here's Tiger Woods talking about his struggle with it - czcams.com/video/DyBVFyS9JoQ/video.html
I think too many golf pros spend there time standing behind watching a muppet. They should stand in front and show the poor sod. This video is basically me at the moment.. so seeing you doing what I’m going through is amazing
Great lesson, but if the instructor would talk more slowly and deliberately, I could soak it up much better!
Hi Phil send me your swing I will help you out
Russell, you really need a better microphone! Or maybe it is just placed wrong? Often hard to understand what you are saying. Even if I turn-up volume on my PC, it just becomes a loud mumble.
My hearing isn't that great, so I always use a good quality pair of wired in headphones. The sound was very good with the headphones. Didn't miss a word today, even when Russell was talking and hitting at the same time.
Mark liquor man you must be on the liquor if you can’t understand Russell
I like the swing problems that you present and the ideas you have to correct them, but you relate the concepts too many times with many words and without exercises or visual method to correct errors. Unfortunately watching your videos exasperates
