Something I have been thinking about for a while is that Mr Poopybutthole doesn't implant a good memory. They remember him having them trapped in an elevator. It is a different parasite who rescues them.
To clarify: in the poop in my pants book, the couples photo of the nasty slime version exists not cuz they both went to the treatment themselves, but it was caused when the evil slime Rick flipped the switch and caused the entire planet to revert into their slime form. Thus the photos are taken immediately upon the event occurring then receding (since the last photo in the photo strip is once again normal). Thxsss

Another possible explanation on the reason why Jerry said "a long time friend" is because this is not Rick and Morty's(C-137) original dimension so there is a possibility where they met Mr. Poopybutthole a long time ago in this dimension.

I always thought Mr PBH was a fourth-wall-breaking meta-parasite in the minds of us, the audience.
1. He appears in the intro making you go "was this guy always there?" How many of us went back and watched previous intros because we doubted our own memories?
2. We only have good memories of him.
3. He can't be killed by the characters in the episode because he's in our minds, not theirs (also explains why he can watch the show with us).
4. Now he's a canonical character who we're all willing to accept has always been around.
I honestly thought that was the whole point of the episode. Am I the only one who thought that?
Anyway thanks for making these videos, they're a great way to get even more enjoyment out of Rick and Morty episodes!
That's a really interesting idea! I never heard that interpretation before, but I think it actually makes a lot more sense than any other theory. I wonder if maybe that was the original intent of the episode at the time, because it really does fit perfectly.

I think Mr. poopy butthole is like Tom Bombadil from lord of the rings. He is just an inconspicuous, extremely powerful and relatively unknown entity. He is fun loving and doesn’t have some grand ulterior motive but instead just lives his life observing. I don’t think that he is ever meant to be fully understood, he is just supposed to be accepted, mystery and all.

My first thought was that he was a queen parasite because like you said it was obvious he started the whole parasites multiplying thing in the beginning. Dan Harmon says "Mr Poopy Butthole, a lot of people dont know, is actually an adult Meeseeks. That's canon." He actually says its canon. I would like to see how the Meeseeks evolve into that version.
Dan Harmon himself would tell you that he is never to be taken seriously. He is also the god of this particular universe, though, so I guess who's to say? I like the theory anyway so I'm gonna believe it. If he wasn't envisioned as an adult Meeseeks from the start, Harmon will find a way to make it so.
Maybe in the main universe we see he's a Morty from another universe but theres also another parallel where he's from a timeline where they do age to Mr PoopyButthole. Every possible theory we could think of is true because of the concept of parallel universes

Small note: If you want to conclusively prove that Mr. PBH is a member of the family, it's worth pointing out that he is not Cronenburged. Only people with Morty's genome can resist becoming Cronenburgs, so the fact that Mr. and Mrs. PBH are sitting on one confirms a genetic connection. Wait, that also proves that Mrs. PBH is related to Morty... Ewww...
Another note, not all cronenburgs are Morty/Rick's doing. in that same episode Cronenburg Morty say they came from a realty where people were already cronenburg and Rick accidentally turned them 'normal'.

That opening theory lasted four minutes, after which he talks about the season four trailer. Coincidence? I think NOT!
Technically he may not have ‘time traveled’, but each universe he’s gone to is a different stream of time, where something has been altered in some way - producing a timeline with that alteration present (technically not time travel, but hopping between timelines/universes) Not to mention they DID pause time that one time - which would be the same as everyone but them traveling to the future (as they would’ve aged, even in the months it could’ve been.
I feel like the photos of toxic Mr PB was from when Toxic Rick "turned the whole world toxic", not from them detoxifying themselves, otherwise it makes no sense for him to have that photo
